I am reminded of the situation that people in southwestern Minnesota were put into when the "Free the Rivers" movement persuaded the State of Minnesota to remove some dams on the Baraboo River. A couple of years later the river flooded and destroyed or damaged many homes, farmland and the Mid Continent Railroad Museum. State neglect of flood control structures or misguided desires to avoid the costs of dam maintenance by tearing them down completely has caused many of these disasters. The People need to watch and keep their politicians under control, not the other way around.
