Hurricane Beryl's Aftermath: Carriacou Residents' Survival Stories

We survived Hurricane Beryl. Now what? It's heart wrenching and inspiring to hear from residents in Carriacou who have lost everything in this powerful hurricane. As the only journalists on the island, I need your help.
This is a very raw video, I walk around and talk to the people so you can hear directly from them about this Hurricane, it's impacts and how they can still smile in the face of having no hope but to wait for help to arrive.

“Today, Samaritan’s Purse airlifted a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) and over 24 tons of life-saving supplies to the Caribbean on our DC-8 Cargo Plane in response to Hurricane Beryl. Over the weekend, we anticipated the storm's potentially catastrophic impact and began preparing our equipment, supplies and team. By noon today, the DC-8 took off to Grenada with 13 members of our DART along with 600 rolls of tarp, 3,000 solar lights, a desalination unit, 300 collapsible jerry cans, and a mobile medical unit. We started building out pallets of cargo before the hurricane even made landfall and are now on the way with life-saving aid.”

It’s perhaps the worst kept secret outside the Caribbean, but the people of the Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines are some of the most positive, humble, selfless people you will ever meet. Having parents and grandparents from RIGHT next door, in Sauteurs (Grenada) and lived in the U.S., Europe and elsewhere over the last 40 years I have seen enough to know paradise is more than a place, it’s a people as well.

I can say that he is right because we are living in perilous times, the great tribulation, nothing like we've ever seen before. And we have to brace ourselves for the impact of what's to come. Thank you sir for the grace you've shown to our people in our most vulnerable moment. Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique is a Tri island state in the Caribbean. I was born and raised in Grenada but currently reside in the U.S. Like most Grenadians living in tne diaspora, we are heart broken, and devastated with the path of destruction #Beryl left behind in our nation. We stand 100% with and by our people, especially Carriacou who beared the brunt of the hurricane. Even though Beryl left catastrophic destruction, we are still feeling very blessed, as no lives were lost on the island thus far. The smile on our faces in the midst of total destruction is because we value life more than material things. We understand that once we have the breath of life, we can build and rise again. We are a resilient people. Hurricane ivan crippled our island 20 years ago, where 90% of our homes were completely destroyed. Yet we dusted ourselves off, united as one people, and rebuilt an even stronger nation. Likewise with Beryl, 20 yrs later, we will once again, dust ourselves off, unite as one, and rebuild stronger than ever 💪 #Grenada #Carriacou #PetiteMartinique #WeWillRiseAgain🇬🇩🇬🇩🇬🇩🇬🇩

I spent six weeks on Grenada in 1986. I truthfully cried when it was time to leave. I intentionally missed my flight to have one more day. I also spent time on Barbados, eight weeks the sane year. Both islands were absolute paradise, not in the sense of western paradise, luxury, riches, comfort. Paradise in the sense of realness, kindness, attunement with nature, and a community, quick to laugh, willing to give you the last of their food if you were hungry, or give their shoes if you had a long walk. I am sure it is the same on this island. I wish I knew which organization is trustworthy to donate to. I am going to do some research and post back if I find one.

My friend went to Japan to help after their devastating tsunami. She said that all the people were extremely smart about handling to debris. Very methodical of putting everything into sections. One big area for roof tiles, another for lumber, etc. The people also were handled. All the able bodied adults (women and men) put to work, grannies were setup to be babysitters, Others cooks for chow lines. My friend was blown away how organized the whole thing was. Hope the island can do the same. Don't destroy off the debris. Put it in piles and use it for the most needed jobs on only the best shelters. Invest in fixing up the strongest bldgs for now. They will need to be shelters for a time. There needs to be strong organized people working together for all sections of island.

I will REMEMBER those who WORK for My SAKE, I will EMBRACE with JOY those who SPEND for My SAKE, I will GIVE PLEASURES to those who SACRIFICE to Me. 🙏 I will BLESS those who are SATISFIED with My WORDS; SURELY they will be the PILLARS that will RAISE the TOP of My KINGDOM, SURELY they will have an INCOMPARABLE REWARD in My HOUSE, and NO ONE will be LIKE them.🌷 Have you ACCEPTED the BLESSINGS GIVEN to you? Have you LOOKED for what was PROMISED to you? 🙏 UNDER the GUIDANCE of My LIGHT, you will SURELY BREAK free from the STRANGLEHOLD of the FORCES of DARKNESS. In the MIDST of DARKNESS, you will CERTAINLY NOT LOSE the LIGHT that GUIDES you. SURELY YOU will be the MASTER of ALL BEINGS. SURELY you will be VICTORIOUS before SATAN. 🙏🛑 WHEN the KINGDOM of the GREAT RED DRAGON is BROKEN, YOU will CERTAINLY STAND in the MIDST of a GREAT CROWD to WITNESS My VICTORY. You will SURELY be STRONG and DURABLE in the LAND of SINIM. Through the SUFFERINGS you ENDURE, you will INHERIT the BLESSING that COMES from Me, and My GLORY will SURELY SHINE all WITHIN the UNIVERSE. 🙏💐 From "The Word, Vol. 1. The Manifestation and Work of God. God's Words to the Whole Universe, Chapter 19 Fulfillment of (John 1:1) and (Ezekiel 2:9-10), (Revelation 19:9,13) 📥Calling and leading everyone to His lowered Kingdom or Church because it is still standing on earth in the holy place in the air/ youtube "THE CHURCH OF ALMIGHTY GOD 💐 this is the fulfillment of what He said to Peter 2,000 years ago, recorded in (Matthew 16:18'19). This is the the only Church of each one of our spirit that we must listen to or eat and drink like how we eat, dress and sleep every day so that He can guide us and change us by rejecting the evil attached by satan so as to be perfect, having attained eternal life that will enter the coming replacement of the New Heaven and New Earth. 💌

@nayon9379 and here you are, praising your lord instead of doing something that actually helps. Bible fascist have this need to preach instead of helping.

Well, it would be a good idea to fly in a Japanese experts squad to lead and coordinate. Given the reoccurence of these events, Japanese could be involved in courses and seminars. Personally lived in Virgin Gorda for a while and went through hurricane Irma. I hope somebody in charge will come to the same conclusion. Best wishes to the people of Carriacou

@@raffaelerispoli1590definitely that would be ideal. Japan is a massive land mass in comparison to carriacou. The population isn’t even 20,000 persons

Wow. That comment from the man who answered the question as to why the people could still have a smile on their faces and saying it was perhaps because they were, “not dwelling on what happened but dwelling on how to move forward,” is powerful. My prayers are with these people.

I feel very strongly for the gentleman with the top knot who, in the last video, remembered how it was upon his parents to be worried as the storm hit. He was feeling anxious because it was now his turn to be in charge as tragedy struck. He was working so hard to batten down the hatches, but it all came to naught. So devastating.

I can help a little. If we all contribute a ‘little’ it can make a difference. People need water, food, shelter, literally everything. Tell us where to send $$$ that will actually get to the PEOPLE. My heart breaks for these gentle people. We love you & are praying for you. Sending a big Texas hug 👐🙏💕✝️

Thank you for making this video. Cariacou has to be among the friendliest places in the world. I walked past that church once as service was finishing and was greeted with a smile and pleasant "good evening " by over 80 people. The church building is gone, but the warmth remains!
