Gout secondary to PTSD in VA Disability | All You Need To Know

In the video Leah discusses the relationship between Gout and PTSD as it relates to VA disability claims. As a US Army veteran and physician assistant with experience as a compensation and pension examiner, she explains that gout is a type of arthritis characterized by severe pain, swelling, and tenderness, often occurring in the big toe, and can be exacerbated by factors like diet and alcohol consumption, which are common in those suffering from PTSD due to compensatory behaviors such as overeating or increased alcohol use to cope with mental health conditions. Leah also touches on how these lifestyle changes associated with PTSD can lead to obesity, which is a risk factor for developing gout.

I cant thank you enough for these videos. ❤ As a Medical Examiner who was literally just thrown into this job ( after a 2 days orientation) without previous VA experience...I am learning a lot from you more than the company. I feel bad for being so unprepared for this job and no one listens. You should do some videos with tips for us medical examiners as well. Thank you for your service and these wonderful videos ❤

Had my 1st gout attack in 2015 when I was skinny from exercising and diet. Woke up one morning and was getting out of bed and fell on the floor because I couldn’t stand up. Look like someone took a 2x4 to my whole foot and beat it really good. Really swollen and beet red. Finally got put on meds in 2019, since then I have only had 1 flare up since then. Thanks for the video 👍🏻
