***********************************
And you know it's the wrong way round
Still you can't say no
Ever playing upon your mind
And you won't say why
(So shut up!)
Unless you're ready to leave it
(Or make up your mind)
But you need it so much
(Do you really believe in it?)
Yes I do
From time to time
In the end
You dig yourself the hole you're in
When you don't know what you want
You just repeat yourself again
In the end
You just repeat yourself again
When you don't know who you are
You dig yourself the hole you're in
(Don't worry)
It's only in your mind
(Don't worry)
But I do
From time to time
You just repeat yourself again
(Don't worry)
You just repeat yourself again
(Don't worry)
You just repeat yourself again again again again again
Still it's the wrong way round
And you won't say no
Ever playing upon your mind
But you won't say why
(So shut up!)
Unless you're ready to leave it
(Or make up your mind)
But you need it so much
(Do you really believe in it?)
Yes I do, I do, this time
In the end
You dig yourself the hole you're in
When you don't know what you want
You just repeat yourself again
In the end
You just repeat yourself again
When you don't know who you are
You dig yourself the hole you're in

the song says that you are the one to ''dig your own hole'' and choose the way you wanna live. You decide your future by the ways you act and when you ''don't know who you are'' and ''what to do'', ''you just repeat yourself again'',so when you're not sure of something you just do what you you do every time, building the image that people identify in you.

Someone wrote "thumbs up if you knew who Gotye was before...." The next step is wide critical acclaim, and then, almost in the same breath, "Well, I was listening to him when all he had was a drum kit made from pots, pans & trashcans. He USED to be good." As long as an artist is obscure, he's hip; once he gets big, he loses that exclusive, cult feel, and many of the earliest fans become critics. I hope that doesn't happen here. This guy is clearly pushing boundaries. He will grow and change.

I just discovered this about an hour ago, and find it very, very compelling. I'm hearing the Police, Peter Gabrial, Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Nine Inch Nails, and a half dozen other influences that I can't put my finger on, but this isn't derivative -- reminds me of Beck in that regard, or QuintenTarantino. I'm not ready to use the word "genius" but give me time and I just might.
