The complaint about Bartok is a complete lie. His quest is entirely optional, and you can train up multiple levels before even talking to him just by exploring and killing animals. You dont have to fight the shadow beast or the orc because bartok literally asks you if you want to go any deeper after you kill the wolves. I can be as charitable as humanly possible and only arrive at one conclusion which is that you are lying.

The soundtrack of this game is an absolute gem. It still haunts me and reminds me of childhood. Very powerful music in this game.

Really wish they released Gothic 1&2 on PS5 already.

Bought the Nintendo deluxe version only for the wallet 😅 Don't even own Switch and I came here to look whether it is worth to buy older used Switch to play this old school gem....seems I will be keeping the Switch version unopened as a rarity 🥲 I really do hope that first GOTHIC remake will come out well.

This is an action rpg and not really rng based. i found Morrowind to be more jank than this.

Gothic 2 and Morrowind came both in 2002. And Gothic 2 is the by far better game. Better graphics, better music, full voice action and hardly any loading screens. And as a subjective preference: no carry limit!

I love both games. G2 was phenomenal and it's clear bethesda liked some stuff from Gothic and incorporated it into Oblivion.

I still don't get, after 20 years, how people can call Gothic's combat mechanics "bad". It's a timing based combat and require some knowledge of the enemy you're facing against to parry or dodge their attacks before counter-attacking. It's not a button masher like skyrim, in which you simply swing your sword around and defeat any foe who has lower stats than you (which they almost always do since their level is based on yours, duh) - it requires some level of strategy and there's no handholding so it's quite good if you ask me.
