You captured the experience of the Gothic I game perfectly. Well done.

When it comes to Gothic I enjoy the fact that you do not start out as bad ass man just killing swathes of enemies and you can very easily get your ass kicked and be forced to pay people not to kick your ass. Kingdom Come: Deliverance did this sorta thing as well in that you are just joe average trying to survive and then thrive but even so with all that armour and experience you can still get your ass kicked getting outnumbered or in a bad position. Wish a few more games were like this.

Everything happens according to the will of the Elder God Woman. The Elder God Woman blocks the Nameless Hero, making him feel incompatible. That's the basic feeling of Gothic 1.

8:11 until you realize that you're inside a prison and guards don't care about anything as long as you pay them. In less than 2 hours of gameplay and before even joining any camp, you can max out strength, one handed weapon skill and grab the strongest one handed sword in the game and all of that without even using exploits, and if you don't mind doing some sequence breaking, you can even get the second best armor in the game while at it.

Dammit. You reminded me of the existence of that song. Now I have to listen to it on repeat for several hours straight. Dammit.

The only successor that can work is it's exactly like Gothic 1 but the proceeding chapters 2 and above are littered with the same experiences you had in chapter 1.

Weirdly, one of the few games you actually can play with one hand.

i do not replay many games, but this one i recently gave another go and it is still a good game; as feedback for the review: the second half was a bit too word heavy, i think it would have done the review a favour if that part was cut in half and instead would have contained 1 or 2 examples were you as a player had different choices to solve a problem

The puzzles are just sitting there. There's no highlighting. Any hints are found in the dark where you shine your torch upon to literally see hieroglyphs that give you a hint on how to solve the puzzles. These temples really make you feel like an archaeologist uncovering ancient tombs. Nobody tells you how to solve them.

I'm also desperately looking for a game that made me feel the way this one did. I started playing this in 2021 mainly because I sudden had a strange itch to play an old game with PS1 graphics and see those blocky graphics in life with wonky controls. There was just a charm about all that, I jumped into Gothic thinking it was just going to be a typical PS1 janky RPG. Little did I know this game would change everything (get that reference?)

Things that hold back Gothic to be perfect penal simulator is xp. I kid you not, if you can outgrow everything by yourself. You aren't trap with them, they are traped with you. So true succesor of first Gothic are games like Space Prison.

A game where it relentlessly makes you want to kill the NPCs and well the game has no qualms about that either in fact it might be encouraging it by making the NPCs absolutely insufferably evil, obnoxious and diabolical.

Might be just me, and not meaning to accuse of anything, but it sounds like a chapgpt script

Bro is playing Gothic with a mouse wtf. Gothic 1 is best played with 1 hand, wasd+shift/alt/space is basically all you need.
