I can't remember exactly how I even stumbled on this game series through KZread but I remembering how freaking fun it looked. Now that I see Gothic 1 remastered is coming to Steam, i can't wait to play it and eventually this one. Great video!

Thank you for the review! Btw, for me the camera looks a bit too close to the Hero in your case, especially in the combat mode. You can edit the range pressing the right joystick and change the disctance. Just in case you didn't know that =)

Old Games rely a lot on single thread Performance while mobile Hardware offers weaker single thread performanc and rather uses more low powered CPU cores. However with a little more effort on thq's part they could have improved this by a lot, so this is still a very low efto t of them.

On Switch they run only at 30 fps, because apparently Switch couldn't handle higher frame-rate those games. You are being a pathetic Nintendo apologist.

I'm playing Risen 1 on Switch right now and graphics are blurry and low quality AF. I think it's dialed down because of performance. Even in the Release year 2009 Risen on Switch would've been denounced as outdated.

I just finished Jarkendar. I love this port honestly. Real comfy experience. Now the question is, is Gothic 3 gonna get something...

Battle System and Targeting System much better on G2 than on G1, also impressed Performance and graphicalwise it's much better now. But I know from the Developper, they gonna wanna fix these stuffs on G1 too🙂I'm glad that there are the Ports on Switch😃

Ugggghhhhh I can't wait for my copy to arrive! I played Gothic 1 for the first time on the switch port and it was amazing! Really fell in love w/ the world, and it was just as good as everyone has been saying for the last 20 years. Ordered my physical copy the moment pre-orders went up. Still haven't gotten it yet. My Gothic 1 physical copy arrived the same day it hit the eshop.

That's pretty much confirmed. They will patch both G1 and G2 on Steam, which should bring all the features from Switch versions. We still don't know when though.

You forgot to mention the consistent widescreen resolution that doesn't bug out after every load.

Are any of these games available as physical media? I'd love to be able to collect them but unfortunately all I've seen so far is digital releases. Hopefully they're able to make a collection cartridge later down the line or something!

It would be neat if there was option to play vanilla - without NotR expasnion balance. For me it was much better experience, especially when playing as a mage - you could finally cast some effective offensive spells and not rely on summons....

When you open the playerkit on PC. You can choose which to play, on Steam. There is also "notrcustom" which will make notr like the vanilla game. But, again this is only for pc. I'm guessing you are talking about the Switch version. Too bad you can't choose. NOTR increases the difficulty and changes the buying/selling ratio. But why would anyone want to play without?

It has very different powercurve, resulting in different game pacing. Enemy placements, weapons etc are all different. The best comparison would be Dark Souls 2 original vs Scholar of the First Sin. Just vastly different experience.

Finally decent port like in 90s-00s, when ports was actually trying to make it enjoyable on a new platform and even adding new features. Fun fact that its Russian studio who made the port, didnt expect that. There are interesting in-depth interviews with porting team.

Honestly, I just hope to see the devs open-up the tools to the community. I can only imagine the amount of work that had to be done to port the game to switch and the amount of new tools they had to program in order to do this. The Gothic modding scene was already surprisingly large, if they dropped a modding SDK or even just some of the tools the community would do so much with it.

Why no xbox/ps port though?

Funfact, gothic 3's VA for Rhobar/Nameless, is Crispin Freeman- the guy who voice acted Alucard in Hellsing. Hes also the Wizard in Diablo 3 ❤️

I'd love to play g1 and g2 gold on pc so i realy hope they add the changes to the pc version. Can't wait to be able to play Gothic without the need for all of the comunity patches to be able to run anywhere near properly on a modern system. Plus the quality of life improvements like the inventory and the improved controls :) Well, i got used to the original controls prety well so for me is no problem with 2 butons attacks, it is ok. Bot for everybody i suppose do yes, i like the changes. I was thinking to purchase a switch oled but i think i will skip it, i'll just play on pc.

It only requires the player kit and system pack. Done. But you can do more. The player kit is for mods and the system pack is for playing on modern pcs. Do this on the pc version. Open "systempack.ini" search for "npc" put a "1" next to the one that says remove labels from dead npcs. You will know it's the right one, it's hard to miss. This prevents you from looting a dead npc that does not have anything to loot. You won't get the "nothing to be had there" all the time.

I wonder how the reception of TES V Skyrim was on the Switch? Did it sell well? I mean, Bethesda like any other company goes where the money is. Seeing TES III Morrowind, TES IV Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Fallout New Vegas on NS would be great, an updated version would be even better, but even a simple port 'as is' would be great (as long the price tag is fair).

It would be easier to spot the difference between quality modes if you'd hardcut between the two. As a friendly suggestion.

It's great that more people get to experience Gothic, but If you're thinking of buying a Switch for that I would recommend you the Steam Deck instead, more games, mods, and emulators lol

How does a 21 year old game need a "performance" mode on a modern console, even if the console is 6 years old, there is still a 15 year gap between? I absolutely do not understand this, can someone explain?

The game is heavily CPU-intensive and can struggle even on modern PCs due to engine limitations. Of course the DX11 renderer mitigates most of the problems, but I doubt they're using it for the switch port.

The second is the best in the series, no doubt. The third is the biggest one, but it's a lot more generic feeling. If I were you I'd play Gothic 2 next, and if you fall in love with it you might be able to live with the dated feeling of Gothic 1. Both feel a bit clunky (on PC at least) but it's worth investing the time. It's a unique experience and there's nothing like it.

You can use a Keyboard on Switch and so you can use MARVIN MODE (Cheats).

Witcher 3 and Doom run in a performance mode by default. A quality mode would be unplayable..

So they make the Gothic 1 and 2 playable on Switch but not on modern PC

it is a 20 yo game that does not even run that well on modern PCs with RTX cards without DX 11 patch. Older does not mean that is less demanding, it just means that it has hard time utilizing newer features of hardware

​@@HobokerDev Well, if you haven't seen that source code you don't know how it is written, how CPU intensive it is, what GPU instructions it utilizes and whether or not it even supports multi-threading. Plus I don't think Switch is known for its good hardware It is a port, not a remake (which will be released as well btw) so obviously they did not have a luxury of rewriting the whole game engine which is probably also convoluted an full of holes judging by constant memory access violations that are common in Gothic

Would be awesome if they would release Gothic 3 and completely fix the god awful combat mechanic. I always felt like it could have been an amazingly good game without the enemies constantly interrupting your combos and beating the shit out of you. I mean, Gothic 2 had a pretty good combat mechanic, felt kinda wierd at first but when you got used to it, it was actually pretty good. For some reasons they screwed it up badly in G3.

Its one of the worst and poorly made ports. 0 effort on a slapped on steam ui copy paste, poor framerate which could easily be fixed had the company that now owns the ip cared. No effort to remake the textures, lighting or animation something that nightdive studios has done for so many ports. Clearly they dint bother to modify acceleration or deadzones for the Switch joycons. Not even bothered to add highlighting of objects that can be picked up, so you often just have to be ultra precise to pick up basic items. Anyway nobody shud pay more than 2 bucks for this on switch.

Make the game more immersive. People should stop using that so loosely😂😂😂. This game looks like shit. What immersion is there😂😂😂😂????

buggy af, not moddable so you have to wait for patches which wont fix everything. Do not buy
