Lower FPS settings are better in low light. I'm thinking I should have set the 4 Silver videos in both instances to 30 FPS due to the cloudy conditions.

I still have my 2, as well as my 3+ Black, 4 Session, and 7 Silver. I use them all in my cinematography, and to get all kinds of different angles and footage.

I still use my hero 2, the color is by far the best of the hero lineup. 1080 P is all you really need.

excellent video. is it me or does the hero 5 have much more motion blur than the hero 4. your head, your arm and the lines in the hammock seem much burrier on the hero 5.

i bought an open box go pro hero 3+. for me the most bang for the buck. don't need all the bells and whistles but it's the best compromise between the 5. go pro 4 and 5 look very similiar. thanks alot for posting this.

I using hero 4 for motovlogging

In my non pro opinion the difference between 3 and the 5 on a 1080p monitor is almost non noticeable. The only try advantage i will give the 5 is that you don't have to have the bulky waterproof case.

You say it's only for entertainment, but I've been using my Hero 2 for about 3 years now (got it from a mate for cheap) and was considering upgrading to the Hero 5 Session (somewhere between the Hero 4 black and 5) and this has convinced me that I dont need to! (Well, it would be nice, but maybe 1 more generation wont hurt to wait :) ) Thanks heaps for the video! Saved me $480AUD :P

the Hero 3 looks the best to me and seems like it would respond the best to color grading

I think the Hero 1 and 2 are best, but the Hero 1 was shot at 960 the 2 was shot at 1080 so it was not a comparable test. All others had an artificial texture.

Still using my Hero 4 Silver !

2 is decent but I think 3 still gives the newer models a run for their money overall.

In my opinion 2 has a stunning image quality and 3 is equally as good except the image seems to be less bright, possibly more accurate, 4 and 5 seemed worse quality and 1 seemed like a vhs recording (In comparison )

For some reason I think GoPro Hero 2 is better than the others!

In normal speed the 2 looks the best. Slow mo the 3 and 5 stood out.

All I really needed was a small camera to film. GoPros are expensive but remain the best for portable cameras.
