this is like apples to oranges, in my opinion people should get both. but if budget is a problem, the gopro would be a better deal since its very versatile. good video.

I feel like the go pro was better for everything except in doors. But I also watched this video on my phone so maybe it's different on a bigger screen. If you can't afford both I think the go pro is the better option

GoPro is good for sports , for regular outdoor, KZread streaming, outdoor/indoor concerts the quality in image and sound is fenomenal. I have both, but i prefer the Sony.

I think the biggest differences here are FOV, depth of field, and low light performance. Like you said, if they threw a 1 inch sensor into the GoPro it would be insanely good. I love the hero 10 and use it for darn near everything(starting out as a motovlogger). My original plan was to bring my Fuji xt4 along with me to get normal type of vlog shots but I think I’m just going to use the hero 10 and my phone instead. Much easier to transport those smaller items!

Thanks for the video. Great to see these two compared in real life examples. I think I'll start with the GoPro and get the ZV in the future.

So helpful to me! I'm starting a new project, and I need to choose an affordable 'get started' camera that is best outdoors but not awful inside. I was worried because I might need to be inside some that I should have a standard vlogging camera, but with as much as I'm outside and needing wide land shots (and walking around), I'm sold on starting with the GoPro 10. I say get the gopro' and invest in some video lights.

A little over a week ago I was asking myself "Do I get the ZV-1, or do I get the GoPro 10?" Being a Canon guy, owning anything Sony didn't appeal to me, but, having owned GoPro's all the way back to the original one, I thought it best to stick with GoPro. The GoPro 10 is all that and a bag of chips! And no, I don't have any issues with overheating it - I only shoot short video clips. It has quickly become the A camera, while the GoPro 9 has become the B camera (or left in the bag), especially when I am out riding (road and gravel). That 4k @ 120 FPS and the ability to shoot 240 FPS is a big help. I have been using mine with the media mod on a Pro Standard Grill mouth mount.

Man that is tough to choose as solely a vlogging camera. Great review though. Both each have their purposes and pros over each other. I like how you showed and talked about where each shines to give us a better understanding. I think you talked and covered well where each you might want each but didn't really mention the picture taking which I think would be the main reason to go with the Sony over the GoPro. Otherwise like you said it is tough to say which would be better. I think with the media mod and other things you have to add to make the GoPro functional for vlogging with a mic the cost difference is ALMOST a wash.

Don't think you would want shallow depth of field on an action cam, that defeats its purpose to have everything in focus. But it would sure be nice to have the option in some setting. Have the ZV-1 and it has for sure better image quality and more control. I especially like the built in ND and great picture profiles. When that comes to a phone or a gopro I will ditch the ZV-1.

Absolutely helped me on deciding on what to buy for vlogging and I’ve got to say I’ll go for the Go pro as I’m quite an active person and will probably use it for outdoor activities! I’m also quite clumsy so I’ll probably gonna drop the camera 😂. Only downside is the lighting issue if I were to shoot indoors with low light but I’ll pretty sure I’ll find a way to pop a light on it to increase the video quality! Thanks a lot again

I haven't tried it yet, but you may want to check out the GoPro light mod. If I shot a lot indoors with the GoPro I'd probably pick one up.

Nice comparison. The only advantage of zv1 is the image quality in low light environment. That's all. And obviously ZV-1 needs a gimbal for vlogging.

Really really cool and compact vid. Definitely no clear winner but good in specific applications! I'll keep using them both ;D

They are a great combo. The zv1 is good got capturing surrounding footage for blogs (b-roll) with its variety of zoom and shallow depth of field

Great video. I think you really nailed the use cases. Both cameras will work with the Rode Wireless Go 1 & 2 and the new DJI Mic, which is fantastic.

I'm looking for a camera to record videos on my lunch break for my channel. I definitely like the look of the go pro. Audio sounds great, it's small so I can easily take it with me to work, video looks amazing. Plus when I go on trips this camera will be amazing for action shots. Nice video! Audio w/ media mod is excellent. Audio on Sony is excellent. Neon greens and good skin ton with Sony. Lots of warmth and orange skin tones with GoPro. ( possibly actually that way. ) Dynamic range is excellent on GoPro. Setting sun looks warm on GoPro. Sony setting sun is white and blown out. Sony looks easy to work with, so they clip off dynamic range. GoPro is kind of the "epic field of view" and the dynamic range supports that. Sony walking/shaking and skin tone auto balancing looks great. However, I have a feeling the actual temperature was warmer with less green than what Sony showed. But, it looked natural long enough to overlook that and also it was easy to watch as the skin tone looked correct.

Thanks for the vid.... I have a SonyZV1 and was debating on another Sony or GoPro10 for my fabrication studio. The stabilization is the key, since I might want to mount the camera on my CNC/machines or use as a POV head/chest camera

I think the Sony ZV-1 is a great camera but the stabilzation isn't great ... especially if you have prodcut showcase on! I bought it so I can use the shallow depth of field setting when I am talking to the camera in my "studio".

I'm seeing this 9 months after you made this video, but as a KZread content creator focusing on disc golf, who uses the GoPro Hero 9 Black, one of the things I do is try to get as narrow a field of view as possible, to better show discs in flight. So I have to have Hypersmooth on Boost and I use Linear + Horizon Levelling, and it almost achieves a narrow field of view comparable to a vlogging camera. The only way to get a more narrow FOV is to change Linear+HL to Narrow, and that "zooms in" a little more. But the Horizon Levelling is such a good feature that I can't bring myself to abandon it. So it's a balance for some type of vloggers like myself, who do a lot of vlogging of rounds I play. Just wanted to share. 🙂

Both have their pros and cons. Gopro will never beat the image quality of my Sony A7iii with a 14mm GM lens, but the stabilization with 5k is really awesome. Different tools for different situations.

Great video, thanks for making this comparison! Would have been a lot cooler if it was 60fps though. Also, don't you think that the 1/3 higher price for the Sony ZV-1 compared to the GoPro Hero 10 is something to consider for most people out there? In addition to that, even if you add both a media mod AND the Max lens mod for the 360 degree horizon lock to the GoPro, it's still cheaper and more portable than the Sony by a good margin.

Agreed. A GoPro Hero 10 with the Media Mod, the Light Mod, a Røde VideoMicro and a set of ND & CPL filters still costs less than the Sony. The GoPro gives you at least 80% of the vlogging capability of the Sony, but the Sony gives you 0% of the action cam ability of the GoPro.

Much to my surprise I preferred the Gopro....largely as the field of vision was so much better and thought colors nicer as well. Both did well, and in the low light room test the Gopro was just ok, but the ZV1 was better, albeit too much crop. ZV1 on either gimbal or selfie stick farther away would likely have won, but used this way (as most would do) I would give it to the gopro. Thanks for the video!

ZV-1 beats GoPro in image quality, but I would always go for ease of use and robust built quality. Not having to worry if your camera is getting damaged is such a relief and makes video making more fun. So the GoPro wins. Having that stabilisation is also essential, unless you are always filming on a tripod. Actually I choose the GoPro over my iPhone 12 Pro Max, for the same reasons. Nice video. thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the comparisons. I recently bought a Hero 10 last minute before a long trip. Unfortunately I left the camera pretty much the default 4K settings on 24FPS. Aside from even your comments on the Sony, just seeing the different modes on the GoPro makes me realize I need to fully explore it before even looking at another camera! I recorded the Hai Van pass in Vietnam and while decent I could have captured it MUCH better. Thanks very much!

I am a big fan of the GoPro its stable and the nice jungle tropical area behind you is in focus. The ZV1 has bokeh and everything is blurred and shakey, also the wider field of view is better for perspective all while fitting in the pocket.
