Im not sure how or why this worked. I work in IT and have been faced with this issue where Chrome wont respond, specifically when Chrome has the setting to ask where you would like to save downloads setting turned on, whenever downloading anything the Save As dialogue pops up but as soon as you try to navigate file explorer it becomes unresponsive. I tried the first method of renaming the chrome application to chrome1 and created the shortcuts respectively. No more unresponsive save as dialogue box. I really dont understand how this worked and was literally giving it a try as i had nothing else to lose and i had run out of options. Reinstalling chrome didnt work.. but this somehow did. Im so grateful for this solution and really hope it holds. Thank you so much.

DO NOT DO THIS! Not only did it not work, I now have an extra icon for Chrome on my taskbar that won't go away.

This seems to happen on every browser. Eventually when you go to open a new tab it just gets stuck loading on a blank page.

Windows 10 /11 make sure metered connection is turned off in the settings. Renaming folder just deletes all cookies etc and relaunches chrome from new. Then you have to sign in to everywhere etc etc. It doesn't really work.

Google Chrome will not work for me. All my tabs are still up but I can't open no new tabs, the store, or when I go to tools & open performance...nothing. I would like to re-install but don't wanna loose the current tabs I have open. Any ideas anybody????

Hi what if you don't have the chrome folder in the Google file?

Make sure youre in the correct folder. It will either be in C:\Program Files\Google\ or in C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\ Notice there are 2 Program Files folders, one normal and one x86. Depending on your system will determine where its located.

In my folder also it not show,so i goto my Google Chrome and right click on that and after go to the property in which I get the location Google Chrome in desktop->right click->property ->openfile location In this way you definitely get

You may have a different problem to the issues this resolves but dont hate becuase it didnt work for you. Try explain your issue and ask for help. This videos solution worked for me as I have mentioned in another comment. I work in IT and i cant explain how or why this solution worked to be honest but it did work for me.
