🌿 Golden Pothos Review: Growth, Care, & Giggles! 😍

🌿 Golden Pothos Review: 5 Years of Growth! 🌿
Welcome to my channel, fellow plant lovers! After numerous requests, I'm excited to finally share my review of the Golden Pothos (Epipremnum aureum), a beloved houseplant that I've been growing for over five years, in the current plant but since I was 5-6 years old in many formats. In this video, I’ll walk you through my journey with this plant, sharing laughs and insights along the way.
Introduction
The Golden Pothos, also known as Devil's Ivy, is one of the most popular houseplants worldwide. Known for its resilience and ease of care, it’s a favorite among both novice and seasoned plant enthusiasts. Despite its popularity, many of you have asked for a detailed review based on my long-term experience, and I’m thrilled to oblige.
Background
I got my Golden Pothos five years ago. It was my first foray into houseplants more seriously, and it quickly became a cornerstone of my indoor garden. Over the years, I’ve learned a lot about this plant’s growth patterns, care requirements, and quirks.
Speed of Growth
Golden Pothos is a fast grower under the right conditions. In my experience, with proper light, water, and occasional fertilizing, it can grow several feet in a year. I’ll share some tips on how to maximize its growth and keep it thriving.
Ease of Propagation
One of the best things about the Golden Pothos is how easy it is to propagate. I’ll describe the simple steps to take cuttings and grow new plants from them. This makes it an excellent plant for sharing with friends or expanding your own collection.
Availability
Golden Pothos is readily available at most plant stores and online. Its popularity means you won’t have trouble finding one, and it’s usually quite affordable. I’ll discuss where I got mine and some reliable sources for purchasing.
Pests
While generally hardy, Golden Pothos can sometimes attract pests like spider mites and mealybugs, but nothing too major.
Accessories & Care
From choosing the right pot to understanding its watering needs, there are a few key accessories and care tips that can make a big difference in your Golden Pothos’s health. I’ll cover everything you need to know to keep your plant happy and thriving.
Final Thoughts
Wrapping up, I’ll share my final thoughts on the Golden Pothos after five years. This plant has brought so much joy and greenery into my life, and I hope this review helps you in your plant journey. Whether you’re a seasoned plant parent or just starting, the Golden Pothos is a fantastic addition to any indoor garden.
Thank you for watching! If you enjoyed this video, please give it a thumbs up, share it with your friends, and don’t forget to subscribe for more plant reviews and care tips. 🌱✨

I love your giggles 😂 it was a really amusing video. The only thing missing in a plant review video is the years you had it in the title. 😂 Funny enough, I never had a typical Golden Pothos. I hadlve a high variegated variety and the Manjula and a Marble Queen, but never the Classic. The large fenestrated ones look good though and if I'm not mistaken, the Manjula for example doesn't split (at least the one from Sydney Plant Guy hasn't split yet, I think). So one point definitely for the Golden Pothos

GP is one of my first plants back in 2019 as I took trailing cuttings from my mom's mature GP growing on a tree. I propagated GP as our wedding giveaways for 40+ peeps, and kept a couple for our place, currently in a drainless jar since 2021. Right now the GP that was left by my in laws about 8 ft from the window, still thrive in just water. Having an array of 50+ species in our condo setting, I have been testing various philos, epipremnums, others that would do well long term without moss poles. It seems that GP is still king, but some other staples are treubii dark that trails gorgeously, zz green and raven, greenish aglaonemas, peace lily, pinnatum, njoy, adansonii, and also burle marxe (which is a lush, rewarding trailing plant as even just 2 main stems cascade into a dense formation as compared to philo/epi which need to be propped multiple times and long wait times before having a lush appearance)

I have a golden pothos. I was going to work therapy and started getting into plants. They had tiny sprouts of golden pothos in a huge pot, they told we have it for months, it doesn't do anything, if you want to give it a try... I took it back home, unpotted it, took a few of the smallest bits and even chunks of roots that were severed, put it in a pot for me, and I repotted the other in a smaller pot. And a month or two later, I brought it back, much bigger than it was before "here, now it grows again." I'm not sure I've seen it in shops. And I don't remember seeing it at anyone's place before. My grand-mother has a lot of plants, but not that one. My mum never had it either, and it feels like it was the first time I was seeing it in real life. Probably because it's not a plant they'd get a lot from, it's not worth selling.

.. My grandmother had golden pothos and her mother too.. My very first plant was a Golden Pothos and I still got a Golden Pothos, now on a moss pole that really need to be extended, and a huge hanging pot with cuttings from the mother plant.. Never ever had pest, not even the shadow of one.. Not on any of my epipremnums.. .. When I had to repot it 3 years ago I found a lot of the vines with no roots and a ton of roots that had rotten, and still it was growing the best it could.. Only the rootless vines had of course lost a lot of leaves.. I took it all apart, 4 hours of hard work, and cut up the best vines for propagation, that now is the new mother plant.. The rest I chopped for propagation and made for the hanging pot.. The empty vines went to the garden waste with all the rest.. Old soil went into my flower bed in the garden ☺️ I just love my golden pothos.. .. Strangely enough it's not very easy to find, nor is the spider plant.. Best way to get it is by cuttings from someone.. In 2 different garden centers I've seen 5 cm pots with 3 cuttings in it for 5, 32£ 😳

I had a massive golden with thick vines reaching almost to the floor that all of a sudden developed black spots on the leaves that almost wiped it out. I treated it with a fungicide and started showering it. I tried to change the pot but it again started dying. I put it back in the same small pot and left it. It has finally turned the corner and to my amazement, it has begun to come back.

When you say "showering", you mean with water? Maybe be careful with that too, if any water droplets don’t evaporate quickly enough, they could turn nasty and fungal-ly. Lol. And if any direct light, or even indirect bright light, touches water on leaves, it can burn. And any fungicides or insecticides with access to light can also cause spots. just saying, but most of these issues tend to be airflow- or water-related.

Large hanging baskets in USA would be about $20. Large on pole with fenestrations would probably be in the 100s. Cheap but not super cheap. I have my golden Pothos for sentimental reasons. I bought it for my mom 45 years ago from MD Anderson Cancer Hospital when she had breast cancer. When she moved into assisted living 5 years ago, it came home with me. It’s still in the avocado green, no drainage planter lol. No pests and I do use it for speeding up rooting from time to time. I don’t water until the leaves are flimsy since there is no drainage. If it was a hard to find, $1,000 plant people would be gaga over it. lol.

Yes, they have been said to be invasive, but they're grown on huge trees in nurseries here in Florida. I would think if they were that invasive, a nursery wouldn't have them growing like that. They're so gorgeous when the leaves are huge and way up on the tree limbs.

Mine is on top of the fridge in a pretty dark corner. It grows maybe 10 leaves a year with not much variegation, but it still pleases me that it is there, where almost nothing else would survive, lol. How are you holding up with this terrible weather? I don't have a huge amount of light in the house, and count a lot on the summer months to see some serious growth. I have a big Monstera Deliciosa in a north facing window that goes dormant in the winter, but usually gives me 3/4 huge leaves in the summer. Well so far I have got ONE 😢 I have 2 large areas with grow lights and am considering supplementing the north window with them too. Sigh... I really envy your greenhouse 😍
