fun fact, when they show Toho Studio this design of Godzilla, they were silent for 5 minutes and left without saying anything until later they called back and said that the reason we were quiet was because we were trying to see anything to change the design; but the design was so different that there was nothing to change so they let it keep the design.

Here's something I noticed that makes absolutely no sense as to why Godzilla would travel to NYC. So the reason why he mostly hides is because he's migrating to an island for nesting. But like, he passed many other islands that were perfect for him with clean water on all sides, enough food to eat, and without an army trying to kill him. You can just easily hide in a filled with MILLIONS of people when you're the size of a building. Also, this Godzilla is a reptile, so he needs a warm environment like near the equator. Not one that rains constantly and has snow in the winter. Why he migrated there makes no sense other than the writers wanted to set the movie in NYC. Plain and simple.

I love that Korey refers to Godzilla as a "dog/iguana". From the first time I saw this movie back in '98 I thought that a lot of Godzilla's mannerisms were like a dog's. As he's dying, when he falls on the ground, the whimpering sounds he makes sounds just like a dog. And I don't think he's protrayed as the villain. As Matthew Broderick's character points out, "He's not an enemy trying to evade you, he's just an animal". It's made clear from the start that it's human interference that made him the way he is. And just like Korey, I was sad to see him get killed. I found it really upsetting to see him get shot with missiles again and again. He's screams are downright disturbing. And in his last few seconds you hear his heartbeat getting slower and slower, then you literally see the light leave his eyes and he's gone. It made me feel so sorry for him. That's why I like this characterization of Godzilla. He's shown in a very sympathetic light. It's just a shame the movie isn't better.

Goodness this brings back memories. I never thought this movie was bad. I saw this in the largest indoor cinema in the world (at that point), which was a huge cinema mounted especially at the Spektrum in Oslo in celebration of the premiere for Tomorrow Never Dies. It was a HUGE screen. And they showed Godzilla there as well, which was pretty cool. Now, I wouldn't go today and say this is Godzilla though. They have renamed him Zilla in Japan, which is cool. He is a kaju, like Godzilla, Rodan and so on, and thats cool. As a monster movie, its not bad AT ALL. There are so many that are far worse than this. And this one has Jean Reno. Hard to go wrong with him. Try to lighten up a bit. Even the Japanese like this movie now. Its stupid fun like Godzilla these days is.

The original version that was to be directed by Jan de Bont & written by Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio was so much better. It was going to feature two things this movie lacks, a cool looking Godzilla based on the original & a fight between demonic shapeshifting alien known as the Gryphon. The original version was also going to have special effects by the late Stan Winston, as well as designs by artists Ricardo Delgado & Jeff Farley. Thankfully, some professional comic book artists & fans created an unofficial adaption on their website American Kaiju.

44:50 I can't believe you guys left out the next scene: "He looks angry" "What do we do now?" "Running would be a good idea"

I always felt bad for the old man on the dock. The man was just trying to go fishing. In my head he made it safe.

I remember seeing this in theaters when I was little and when Godzilla appeared on the screen people erupted with cheers.

I would LOVE to see this reviewed on the Podcast one day. Contrary to what most will say, PJ’s King Kong had a loooot of cool shit in it

@@GSP413 It still surprises me to hear that people do not like Peter Jackson’s King Kong. It is not a masterpiece per se, but it is a classic epic movie.
