    @@davidhamilton6883 You really suppose Thor went around killing giants while being "sneaky"? I honestly kind of imagine him learning that there are a group of giants somewhere, arriving there and then coming down on them with literal thunderous might, trailing lightning everywhere, and either electrocuting them, or caving in their skulls with the hammer. I'm really struggling to think of Thor going off to slay giants using stealth, given the way he's characterized here in the game. He's the strongest, most durable Aesir and he knows it. He even fights sloppily and carelessly like the brute he is. He knows he can afford to slip up, and it probably won't cost him much. Not to mention he didn't bother fighting at full strength against the god reputed for murdering an entire pantheon and sinking the land they stood on singlehandedly. He clearly wasn't expecting even someone as fearsome as Kratos to be able to easily destroy him.

    @@magnusavidon982 you can't say it's not in character when that's literally what he is doing in this scene, also I'd imagine after killing them for so long he starts to get creative, giants also aren't exactly advertising their location chances so Thor most likely follows them to a camp and then goes gun blazing Think of him like a stealth bomber, you can't kill enemies that have time to run and hide, the most vulnerable target is a target that doesn't know it's doom approaches

    @@jbatts834 We get dialogue about how at one point, Thor stopped drinking because Sif wanted him to, and given the stories we’ve heard, there was a good reason. But he eventually relapsed, most likely when Magni was killed and in his drunken, belligerent state, he beat Modi. Odin is an abuser, no doubt his parenting style passed itself onto Thor who he regularly abuses despite going on about family and peace. Heck, he doesn’t even called Baldur his son, but his “best tracker”. Weaponizing familial ties, he orders Thor to do heinous acts, but never taking responsibility for them, even framing Thor’s relapse as his own decision and not the result of his abuse making him to turn to the bottle.

But when this game (Ragnarok) came out, we found out that Thor is actually complex and tragic character, who only wants his father approval and also regrets about his deeds (even both Kratos and Atreus feel sorrow to Thor’s deeds, because they can relate to him (Kratos for being a dangerous murderer that is working as the champion of the Greek Gods and Atreus for being a half-blood Jötunn, who has a complicated relationship with their respective fathers)).

    I'd say yes to that. You can read control freak in almost every action Odin performs, and that's what makes rewatching these so interesting. You're primed to distrust his every move, to look beyond it. But if you don't catch that, you find him personable. Relatable. Sane. Like he's the reasonable party. I can definitely read his being startled by Thor as a manifestation of that. Thor is his strongest tool, but hes been showing signs of not aligning with his every whim and interest. I don't think it's any secret that Odin could not take his own son in a straight fight, which is why he *immediately* subjugated him, when he refused to fight Kratos and listen, at the end. He sees it as necessary, I mean, fuck, what if Thor turns on him? He's screwed.

    It's pretty clear the writers of the game aren't sticking to the source, they are just taking loose inspiration and creating their own versions of the mythology. • @johnleonard9102

    @johnleonard9102

    @@MrSirFluffy I disagree. They couldn't figure out what to do with Atreus, so they gave him a boring MacGuffin quest. I don't even care that he broke it at the end because it's what I expected him to do and I wasn't interested in what was in the rift. First of all, this should have been a trilogy. Second, they should have never had us play as Atreus at all. Third, this game has Kratos for the most part following his son around because his son says that he wants to prevent Ragnarok from happening because he knows many innocent people will die because of it, which is why Kratos tags along because he doesn't want to repeat what happened in Greece. But little does Kratos know and little the we the players know is that Atreus is actually pushing to make Ragnarok happen to get revenge on Asgard for killing all the Giants. He learned how to use powers of illusion and disguises to manipulate other people around him and get them to do things that he couldn't do on his own. A great example of this would have been if Atreus faked his death at the hands of Thor, which would lead Kratos to going berserk and killing Thor. Atreus would reveal that he was really alive and explain that the only way he could get Kratos to fully snap is if he pretended to be dead. Kratos would then be pissed off at his son but not hurt him, instead he would just walk away. At this point Odin would sweep in and persuade atreyas to come to Asgard with him. The boy would think this would be his perfect opportunity to sabotage Asgard from the inside, but Odin is many times more cunning and intelligent than atreyas is so Odin knows that he will be able to get atreyas to do some things for him before eventually he'll kill the boy off. Game 3 is all about Kratos continuing the things that need to happen to get Ragnarok to occur so that he can get into Asgard and save his son.

    @@johnleonard9102 nah I definitely know how you feel. I played the previous GOW (I don't have Ragnarok) and Atreus just seems useless for a vast majority in the game, and he doesn't even play a major role until towards late game.

    Perhaps I am "seeing things", but Thor's battle movement looks well built, to the point that I wonder if a mod could appear where we get to use Thor 👀

    Odin is like a mad scientinst in this interpretation. Gotta say it's pretty clever view on him given his story in mythology.

    Thor did not "almost" kill him. He merely threatened him the first time they were alone, which is kind of his family tradition.

    Imagine if thor killed atreus... I literally get goosebumps thinking about amount of rage kratos would reveal...
