  • @Thesaurus_Rex
    @Thesaurus_Rex Жыл бұрын

    A major theme of the Norse games is parenthood, particularly the relationship between parent and child. Thor is therefore one of the most interesting characters because he's both a parent and a child, we see him shaped by his abusive, manipulative father, we see him mourn his sons, and we see him try to do well by his remaining daughter. He parallels both Kratos, as a violent god beginning to reconsider his ways for the sake of his family, and Atreus, as the half-giant son of an impossible-to-please god. Had he not died, (or escaped death, as Kratos did many times) Thor might have followed in Kratos' footsteps and found balance the way Kratos has, though, like Kratos, it would likely have taken him quite a journey. (That said, having Einherjar Thor, Baldr, Magni, and Modi show up during the finale in some form would have been glorious and terrifying, no matter what role they played.) His father taught him his mind was worthless. He was Odin's weapon, his tool, and his only thoughts should be how to most quickly and effectively enact Odin's will. This is why Kratos challenging him to be more, to be better, both directly with his words and indirectly by his choices, enrages him. If he _can_ be more, if he _can_ think for himself, if he does get to choose to be more than a destroyer...how can he face what he's done? He wiped out an entire people, _his_ entire people, for Odin. He sent his sons to their deaths, at Odin's command. He nearly _killed_ his son, out of fear of disappointing Odin. He has to double down on what he's known, insist Kratos is the one making a mistake, that Kratos is wrong, otherwise he has to face the unbearable cost his thoughtlessness, and his father's abuse, has brought down on him and those he loves.

    The way Odin groomed all his children: Giving Heimdall, the arrogant teenager, perfect sight and stroking his ego so that he worships the All Father. Poisoning Baldur against Freya through sheer bitterness, trying to learn the secret of his invulnerability, making him out to be the sympathetic parent, when all along he just wanted Baldur’s gift for himself. And then there’s Thor, half giant, cut off from his heritage by wiping out his own people, trying to win his father’s approval. And all the while, Odin made sure anything he couldn’t do to the giants of Jotunheim, he did to Thor, turning him into something that only existed to be controlled. It’s no accident his hatred of giants included himself. He really was Odin’s worst victim.

He is just broken and wants redemption, he had a bad childhood and odin just treated him like crap, made him a drunk who cared about nothing but destruction and killing. He wronged his own sons and after their deaths he was broken even more. And when he finally decided to stand against his father it was too late. Damn I wished him and kratos teamed up against odin together, both of them having gameplay without atreus and freya in the mix and just comboing odin together, would have been sick. I've said this in a different video, but I'll say it here as well. Because it's fitting. Hmm. Maybe an interesting observation. Kratos taught Atreus always to think and be logical. Thor, inadvertently, taught him to feel and not always think. Both of those things are makings of both a great warrior and a great person. Kratos taught him to be cautious and use his mind. Thor taught him to trust his instincts and use his gut.

    I honestly think his death is the most tragic. It upsets me more than anyone else's. He seemed like he had the potential to be a real decent and loving person if he weren't so terribly abused all the time (the way he talks to his wife behind closed doors and touches her so tenderly, his obvious love and care for his daughter's safety while still prioritizing her life goals, his rage over his sons' deaths, his... I'll call it charisma frankly because his humor is charmingly dry). If not for Odin, he could have been a good god the whole time. And now, because of Odin, we'll never get to see him become one.

During the bar fight, he said “thinking too much.” also, when he & Atreus went on a mission to recover the mask piece, every time Atreus would mention thinking Thor would tell him that him thinking was a problem. Just for the end, Odin to tell him “You don’t think. I think. You kill!” excellent writing

    I dead just figured out what Thor was gonna do to Heimdall. He was gonna gonna choke him with his left hand, rip off Heimdall’s arm with his right hand. Next he was gonna take Atreus’ arrow ( while still in Heimdalls severed hand) and gouge out his eyesballs and eat them. Heimdalls a mind reader hence him dropping the arrow and THEN proclaiming Thor to be a sick man -BillyWolfgang

    Kratos would've taken the deal, I think, were it not for Odin mentioning Freya. In Kratos' eyes, Freya was his problem, not Odin's. Up to this point, he only had anecdotes to go by for what kind of person Odin is, and he wasn't personally involved. As soon as Odin self-inserted himself into Kratos' inner circle, which included Freya, regardless of her rage, that was when he distrusted him.

    As much as I hate Odin.... Sif is just as manipulative. Guilttripping Thor over and over again. For all I can see Thor was aware off how dangerous it was to stand up to Odin. So he was stuck between a rock and a hard place. In the end it wasn't Sifs arguments or Thruds pleas that won him over. It was Kratos, who had sacrificed his destructive nature for the sake of his son, that got throu to him.

    I don’t know if anyone else noticed this but at 8:37. There’s this odd moment where the character slide in a position for a cutscene. You see it a lot in the fights with Baldur in the previous game. But now the Developers made them almost impossible to spot by blending it with characters making fast movement like how Kratos swung his shield before pushing Thor into a wall. It just amazes me for some reason

We can assume that Odin didn't dare go to Greece as he knew those gods had powerful magic and weapons,etc. Yet thor still approached kratos. No fear. Knowing exactly what kratos did to the greek pantheon and some titans. Odin was so obsessed with prophecy that he led himself and his son to their deaths
