As someone whose struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts, these lines tore me apart. I had to put down the game cause I couldn't stop crying. It's like I've needed someone to tell me these words for years and I'm so glad I've heard them. Sometimes the one things scarier than dying is living, and the one thing scarier than living is being happy and fulfilled, loving so deeply while knowing the pain you'd feel if ever it were lost. It still frightens me. But Faye and the people in my life like her remind me to have courage in the face of loss. To love in spite of fear.

I lost my wife to COVID a year ago. She watched me play the last game. When this scene rolled. . .I lost it. Christopher Judge and Deborah Ann Woll did an great job to give them so much emotion to their words. Just seeing how Kratos' stone will slowly cracks [ 5:52 ] [ 7:21 - 7:30] as Faye speaks about her soon-to-be death so easily, you can hear him slowly fearing the thing that he always didn't care for, the future - a future without the one who gave him a reason "leading him home" Yet, she keeps on reminding that she will always live on in his heart. Personally he effected me since this is how my chain emotions went about and yet, I keep my wife's memories within me. It gives me reason to keep on going.

That scene where the Harpies tried fooling him into thinking he was back with his family? What about the man who asked Kratos to kill him? He couldn't even look him in the eyes as he did it; it hurt too much. Yes, Kratos had a period of being a cruel, unyielding monster. You can blame the Gods for jerking him around so much as anyone would snap under those circumstances. Did he take things out on innocent people? Yes and it was needless, but he now regrets it and is stuck serving penance through redemption. All this man ever wanted was to be home with his family, but he keeps losing people to the point where he fears it. You don't get that way without being horrendously hurt and sad. Faye changed Kratos for the better. Kratos went through hell when Ares tricked him to kill his family, betrayed by Zeus out of fear and used by Athena to destroy Greece by killing the Gods. Faye saw the good in Kratos to help him atone for his sins.
This game is brutal. It constantly characterizes these battle hardened men as remorseful, grievous, and broken. Keeps reminding us that the strongest souls have bared the worst pains. Brilliant!

I really love Faye's final line of dialogue in this scene. Not only does it speak to Kratos, but it likely speaks to everyone who has lost a loved one and is afraid/unsure of how to move on and love again. Man, this game is fucking fantastic.
I think the story is about Kratos himself, when he wanted to die for like the 500th time, only this time his grief was over Faye's death. And he couldn't continue the story because that's when he remembered she wanted both of them to live on, not with sorrow over her dead body (hence why the cremation), but with hope and happiness.
Remembering that Atreus said Kratos didn’t really love her makes this scene hit harder.

I think the logs symbolized the burden of life and the duty to continue on. He was tired and wanted to rest. @superunicorn1001

@@Psyshimmer I think death is love. Hear me out: The logs in this story represent brutality and savageness in battle. The ability to disregard all human or otherwise morals and eliminate whatever is in front of him. We know kratos and fey met shortly after he arrived in Midgard, then fell in love. Kratos wanted to be done with the killing. With the battles. With the wars. The "logs". But because he so desperately called for the love he always wanted, aka "death", he realizes that to love is to fight. To love so deeply, that he is willing to stare into heimdalls eyes as he chokes the life out him after threatening atreus, is kratos learning that he can never put his blades down. He must fight for as long as he lives for his son. I think that's why kratos decided to lead everyone. He knew that to keep the ones he loved safe, he would have to do anything and everything he is capable of.

the fact that these people are arguing what analogy kratos uses when he tells the story to atreus is what makes their dialogue so special. you can interpret it in so many ways that may or may not relate to the series at all but still produces a beautiful conclusion. writing and scripting is indeed a 100/10

Yeap, also when they spread her ashes in Jotunheim. Absolutely brilliant masterpiece.

Actually, I had to come back and correct myself. The OST that plays when they spread her ashes is "The Summit". I was just listening to it. 🤣😅 The OST that plays in Faye's funeral is "Ashes"

This is probably one of the best dialogues I have ever heard. The Faye’s about how true love means were beautifully deep.
This moment alone deserves game of the year. What an amazing depth of emotion it captures with an even more beautiful message that anyone alive can learn something from.
As much as it hurt Kratos to lose Faye, at least he was there by her side when she passed and she went peacefully.
Would love to know how they met. When Faye met Kratos he must have still been the Ghost of Sparta. Wonder how she both made him open up to her and help him change his ways to the extent he did.

well Faye said when they met each other first time, they at each other throat, meaning they do the fight right away... probably seeing Faye really strong and kind, it melted Kratos's frozen heart.

Never thought I would play a action game with tears in my eyes.
There isn't a more difficult thing than anticipating the death of a loved one as told by them, especially someone who's very existence has reshaped your whole life for good. He knew she was going to die, he knew it was coming, it must have been extremely difficult for him. Very few things can break a man like this, and this was definitely one of them. Her death definitely played a huge part in changing the man he was.
There’s no competition for this story bro. It’s a masterpiece
“To grieve deeply is to have loved fully. Open your heart to the world as you have opened it to me and you will find every reason to keep living in it.” I didn’t think anything could change my view on life like that. Thanks for that Faye.

I cried at that moment.
When a video game invokes such strong emotions. It’s games like this that show video games are art
This game has the best soundtrack I have ever heard in my time in and associated with the video game industry. The chanting track playing at the culmination Kratos’ dream is flawless.
I would love to see their love story Faye looks so kind and peaceful but also teased Kratos
Before the game came out I was convinced elden ring would be GOTY, but after this specific scene I realized how wrong I was, this scene is just beautiful taking into consideration every single thing kratos has gone through.

Well in the end Kratos still maidenless :D
The first time I heard this theme . I didn’t know how much he loved Faye.. seeing this now tears my heart apart because I never got to see him so loving. Now all he has is his son and her memories
ironic how in the weeks before ragnarok, Kratos had troubles with his sleep due to nightmares. but the night before Ragnarok, he finally had the most peaceful sleep he has ever experienced. props to the dev and prod team to make kratos not only a war machine, but a human with deep rooted emotional trauma and shows how he was able to live with them and conquer them
Man, seeing Kratos on the verge of tears hits you pretty damn hard 😢😭
Faye is such a underrated character, I could be wrong, she so mysterious and such a great personality wife for Kratos. Which is why she was the reason of Kratos and Atreus story.
This makes me want to hug my mother...and let her know how much I love her for everything shes done for me...
5:52 "I would have you close to me" dear lord how Kratos's voice breaks being so frail
Faye and Atreus taught Kratos how to love again. Let me cry for a moment, hold on.
No, there is NO OTHER GAME that told a story as good as Ragnarok. PERIOD! And I am willing to challenge anyone on this.
I love that you actually see that she does not want to die. She doesn't want to leave her family alone. But she also knows that they are strong enough to make it together, without her.
Faye’s dialogue on life & death is worded perfectly. It’s profound! This hits home.
I remember reading not long ago that Deborah Anne Wolf was struggling to find work after Daredevil. Seeing her in GOW: Ragnarok - arguably one of the if not the biggest game of year is deserved. Great actress.
Faye telling him to open his heart makes the moment during Ragnarok where he tells Atreus to do the same, the opposite of his advice in the first game, so great.
"the culmination of love is grief, yet we love despite the inevitable"
This scene was both so happy and so sad, especially with Faye's theme playing in the background. *Goodbye, Faye.*
This is not a game but a masterpiece indeed
I was so glad they decided to give Faye proper full fledged scenes through these flashbacks, and not just a fleeting image so that she really could have her own character, not just some vague specter pushing the main character along. And it goes without saying, Deborah Ann Woll absolutely nailed it, bringing to life probably the only character in existence who could soften Kratos’ heart.
It's ok to hurt when you have loved. The pain is how you know it was real.
Faye went beyond motivation by fate and revenge, to doing it for true love for Kratos and aretus
8:55 the scene alone is extremely beautiful and heartwarming but the music right here is enough to make kratos himself cry
The animation department deserves a damn award... the characters are so lifelike that they dont even need to speak to convey emotion. Just look at Kratos... When he is not even speaking he is pouring emotionally. Incredible work.
Oh shit kratos is back as general holy shit welcome back old friend
This scene is fantastic and Deborah Ann Wolls performance is spectacular. Those last to lines "To grieve deeply, is to have loved fully" and "Open your heart to the world as you have opened it to me and you'll find every reason to keep living in it" are brilliant.
Almost cried on this part
Definitely the holy grail of storytelling
Amazing scene, I got absolute GOOSEBUMPS when the music started at the end
"Open your heart to the world and you'll find reason to keep living in it" really got me
I love that while she knows all of the story and character of the Greek era Kratos and everyone in it from Olympian, Titan, hero and Sister of Fate, she aided and helped him grow and heal.
My man finally found peace, strongest being in all of existence, god killer , god of war ,brother, father, husband It’s been a helluva ride . The best Video Game character
I just now realized Kratos was against a Funeral Pyre since the Ashes of his first wife and daughter are bonded to his skin, he doesn't want to be reminded of that again.

Holy fuck I never realized that!! For four years that thought NEVER occurred to me.
Faye was the reason, Kratos was so wise damn
He wakes up from his first dream startled, as if it was a nightmare. He wakes up from this one with incredible calm, making peace with the role Faye envisioned for him.
Faye is an incredible character, so happy she was in this game and not just mentioned like God of War 4. This game is a masterpiece.
Some how they found a way to top "But what is grief, if not love persevering?"
This was my FAVORITE SONG of the previous game...I am SO THANKFUL they brought it back in SUCH A PERFECT WAY.... beautiful...so beautiful...................☹️☹️☹️☹️
When Faye said, "...I love hearing your voice" it somehow did something
I am crying so bad every time I see Kratos with faye
I love how both of the latest God of war games were just redemption arcs for Kratos
