One way to look at sainthood is: "Living your life like a Saint lived his, is a guaranteed way to get into Heaven". Based on that, I'm pretty sure most dogs are saints.

Dogs cannot be saints people. Just deal with it, but dogs can definetly be good boys and save lives. I believe all dogs and not just dogs but all animals are God's creatures and they have souls and the stories of dogs like Guinefort can help us understand how precious animals are to us. I myself have dog, cat and two rats and I love them. My favourite saint is St. Francis who loved animals and even preached to them and called them his brothers and sisters. ❤✝️

  • @stellarbones

@@fantasyhaven3900 I love St. Francis. Yes, officially, dogs can't be canonized, but that's why I said it was to the annoyance of the Vatican. Because "folk saints" aka "popular saints" exist too, and they're both called saints and often treated the same way by the communities around them. Therefore St. Guinefort is still a saint. Deal with it ❤

Mr. Fritz, my 10th grade history teacher (now of blessed memory), told us once about growing up with St. Bernards. Yes, plural. Every day when he got home from school, this herd of dogs the size of horses would gallop across the yard and plow him to the ground. They proceeded to lick him senseless in a doggy declaration of, "I love you, I love you, I love you!" Inevitably, once he made it through the door, he might as well have been caught in a storm. Finally years of going to church against my will pays off. According to the canon, everyone who goes to heaven is automatically saint, as saint is supposed to mean someone who is/lives with god, so if all dogs go to heaven, it means all dogs are saints. We just don't start mini cults about them. Althought we should. And even if that is not the case, there are rescue dogs who save up to and over hundred people during their career, they deserve to both get to heaven and be declared saints.

But take it also with a bit of salt, some people declared as saints wouldn’t fit very well in heaven by the rules of getting there, for example, Urban II, the guy who started the crusade, was beatified/made holy by his successor shortly after Urban’s death. So you gotta be careful with that title.

Yeah, whiskey IS a horrible idea for people with hypothermia. It makes you feel warm, but that's because the sense for your minimum body temp drops, so you'll actually freeze faster and just not feel it. Pretty sure it was a thing for a while though. People used to actually think alcohol helped to warm you up before they eventually tested and realized the truth.

If we're talking about canine saints, what about Saint Guinefort? Well, OK, technically the Christian church didn't recognize him as a saint, claiming (probably rightly) that the belief that Guinefort was a saint was based on mere superstition, and he probably never existed, or, at the most was the hero of just another traditional folktale of a type common all across Europe. There are countless stories of dogs who were killed (martyred, in the case of Guinefort) by someone who thought they had killed a child, only to find out too late that the blood was that of a wolf or snake that threatened the child, who was alive and well in his cradle. Naturally, St. Guinefort, who was honoured for centuries in spite of official doubts about his existence, was held to have a special interest in sick children.

The most accurate description. Though even the smart ones haven't adapted to the fact they're larger than they were at 2mo. StBs are notorious for not knowing their own size for a reason.

What about my favorite dog breed Cairns which I have owned for over thirty five years, I could help you with the characteristics, like selective hearing, hole digging, rat catching, rodent catching, bird catching, Then next I now have a border terrier, what a mess, feisty is a understatement, escape artist, and selective listening also.

Cairns are great. I don't really like dogs, but I did love a Cairn once. She was smart and independent (could run freely around on the farm she belonged to without causing any trouble or getting hurt) and hunted water voles all day long. She joined me when I went for walks. Once she even tried to get on a bus with me.
