    16:24 - 19:44 Consequences of Inadequate Half Guard: - Knee Lever Vulnerability: If your knee is on the floor, your opponent can easily use a knee lever to disturb your balance. - Bridge Efficacy: If your hips are in direct contact with your opponent's hips, their bridge can be powerful enough to take you over. - Elbow Escape: A poorly positioned knee, especially if it's outward, allows your opponent to elbow escape easily, potentially putting you back into guard. - Underhook Disadvantage: If your opponent secures a strong underhook, they can disrupt your position significantly, leading to various complications. Steps to Establish an Effective Half Guard: 1. Secure Your Underhook: Always aim to get your own underhook while ensuring your chin is above the opponent's shoulder. This position prevents them from regaining an underhook and destabilizing your control. 2. Adjust Knee Positioning: Instead of having your knee on the floor (making it susceptible to knee levers), turn your foot outward. This simple adjustment nullifies the knee lever threat. 3. Elevate Your Hips: To render your opponent's bridge ineffective, lift your hips off the floor, ensuring there's no direct contact between your hips and theirs. This action significantly reduces the power of their bridge. 4. Point Your Knee Inwards: To prevent elbow escapes, adjust your knee to point inwards. This position blocks the path for elbow escapes, securing your half guard. 5. Cross the Center Line: Stepping over your training partner's center line not only stabilizes your position but also applies considerable pressure, making it difficult for them to execute any of their potential escape or reversal techniques. 6. Apply Punishing Pressure: By controlling the center line and maintaining the aforementioned positions, you establish a dominant half guard that limits your opponent's options and allows for effective guard passing.

    I used to find Danaher's instructionnals very interestings and full of new informations, now that i did a few competitions and i've been coaching jiujitsu, i find that they are really less of instructionnals videos but more sacred scriptures for us poor ignorant fools who think they know a bit about jiu-jitsu.

    Just amazing how Danaher simplifies everything. I'm getting better just by watching a video, which is not the norm for me. Gordan isn't the GOAT; Danaher is.

  • @CyberneticArgumentCreator

    @CyberneticArgumentCreator

    Gordon is the athlete, and he is absolutely one of if not THE GOAT. There is a difference between the person teaching Nolan Ryan how to throw and the human being named Nolan Ryan launching a baseball from his hand at 106 mph. The coach is a crucial element of every great athlete, but don't say asinine things.

  • @warrenwright9532

    @warrenwright9532

    Relax@@CyberneticArgumentCreator. I'm speaking from the perspective of the professor. Bruce Lee wouldn't be as great if his sifu didn't teach him how to utilize his skills. Yes, perseverance, discipline and dedication are definitely quality characteristics needed in a student, but it's the professor who sees these things in certain students and then grooms them to greatness. So I stand by what I said. If Gordon had a mediocre coach, he too would be mediocre. A coach can't teach about his level no more than a white belt can perform at a black belt level until he actually gets there.

    Fantastic video, I love how danaher sistematically breaks down positions and concept to impose your game and simultaneously shut down everything the opponent can do. You can see this clearly in his top student's game, prime example gordon ryan: his opponent know what he is gonna do but can't stop it because he sistematically breaks them from every position. I also love how he goes over basic positions everyone has seen from day one but adds key details that make all the difference.

    If your body type is extremely well made for certain moves, you still can invest a lot of time in it, even when most people are not successful with this given move. You can find examples like this with Josh Hinger's arm-In guillotine or the buggy choke from Jay Rod and Routolo Bros. Another good reason to invest at least a bit of time in it, is to understand these moves well enough to notice them early enough and more important to be able to defend them
