GOAT!!! What Really Happened (Jon Jones vs Ciryl Gane)

Jon Jones vs Ciryl Gane was a one-sided fight where Jones showed grappling prowess that Gane was not ready for. How did Jones set up the guillotine?

If Gane can pull himself together, this loss is actually good for him. Experiencing this level of gap might motivate him to start training with more ground game. Gane did nothing wrong on the feet imo. They were literally 30 seconds into the fight, it was normal to just throw some jabs out and feel Jon out, see what he's dealing with. As far as defending that guillotine in that position, easier said than done. When you've got 250lbs sitting on top of you, with your neck bent, there's not a lot to do. I had a 145lbs guy headlock me like that while I was sitting down, not even guillotine, and its such a miserable position I tapped just from the pressure on my neck, getting guillotine at the same time by Jon Jones is game over, there's no defending that when you're sat on your ass with the guy pressing his whole weight on top of you.

I dont see Gane doing well in that style of fight. For Gane to win I would think he would need to stay at distance, and I don't see Stipe being very accommodating there. Gane doesn't necessarily have one strike power... his finishes are going to come by an accumulation of strikes in succession after inflicting consistent damage. I think it would be very competitive. However, you are correct In that it will largely be determined by what Stipe shows up.

He need to feel that is a complete athlete. A win again Blade and or Pavlovich could help him. Maybe a change of mindset too. I think first exchange in the fight was very telling, Jones comes in very unafraid and showing he is comfortable with a kick at the back of Gane's knees right off the bat. Gane reciprocates but mostly because he was triggered by the first kick by Jon but lands the kick on his junk. There's no worst feeling like being led on by someone else and making a mistake, the time it took Jon to recover from the crotch kick was probably weighing on Ciryl.

Jones is most likely going to beat Stipe based on this performance, and based on Stipe's last performances. If Francis ever comes back (Dana says "never" about things that he later backtracks on), that would be a better fight because Ngannou has that unpredictable power. On another note... Nah bro Jones was different in LHW division. He used to demolish everyone in their own game striking, grappling, everything. HW Jones has yet to prove himself against Francis and Stipe.

@@erccool just like francis was? Gane will improve. He prob hasn't had many wrestlers in his 13 fights plus his base is muay thai, gsp took time to develop his gnp style. Or lay n pray. Same as whittaker, once he got td defence, his rematch with izzy was super close, i mean we could say the same about periera also, but he did ko izzy 2 times. There is hype trains, then there is just 2 killers and only 1 killer is walking away. Jones realised early he couldn't fight ciryls game at standup, its why he did wrestling after a minute of ciryl coming in and out, most heavyweights are not that agile. By trying to diminish ciryls skill sets ur just lowering jones return and good performance by saying his opponent is less than good lol even ngannou wanted to wrestle with ciryl. And he is a puncher lol

@@OceanBloke Bruh made a whole paragraph, some points to add here Jones took down Gane, because that was the easiest path for him to win. He didn't do that because he was scared of Gane on the feet, he was winning on the feet. This was just pure domination on Jones part. Also Francis evolved because he left Fernand, I'm sorry but Gane is never gonna be champ with Fernand in his corner. Gane played Fifa before the biggest fight of his life, and Fernand can't do anything to him to discipline him. Face it, Gane is going to be one of those good fighters but will never touch gold.

The real question is, will Jones stay motivated in Heavy Weight when there seems to be an even smaller pool of contenders then when Jones was in Light Heavy Weight?

It looked as if Gane was still trying to download the data, and wasn't expecting Jones to go in for the finish that early into the fight. Kind of like Adesanya in his first fight against Whittaker, only in this case Jones was able to reach him and take him down.

What a statement!!!! Jones has gone from Evil Ryu to Zen Ryu status. When a fighter gets this focused and in such a flow state, they can’t be easily beat. Jones is the best, and the debate that wasn’t even a real debate, is officially ended.

Statistically, Jones had something going for him as a wrestler ex champ from a lower weight class, being away from the sport a while, goes into an immediate title shot against a striker champ in the weight class above, the wrestler won: Couture vs Sylvia, GSP vs Bisping, and Jones vs Gane.
