REVENGE!!! What Really Happened (Alex Pereira vs Israel Adesanya 2)
Israel Adesanya vs Alex Pereira 2 ended in a shocking knockout victory for Izzy who lured Pereira into an overhand. How did Adesanya find the punch? Did Pereira do anything wrong? Where do they go from here?

Such a new level of respect for Izzy after this performance, not only for his performance but the mental aspect of it, imagine getting KO’d twice last minute after kicking his ass the whole time and STILL standing in the pocket to trade, sheesh it’s fights like this that remind me what the human spirit is made out of if channeled properly

Kicking his ass? Alex is the slower fighter, he's naturally going to get hit more. Everyone with common sense knows Izzy is the better counter puncher and Alex is a better brawler. But that doesn't make him a less technical fighter. He utilizes his power how he should. I don't think anyone was thinking Alex was getting his ass kicked until the knockout

@Elijah Brawling is a style of fighting. Izzy isn't a brawler he's a defensive counter striker. Izzy doesn't rush and barrage any of his opponents. He always fights defensively. I don't know what you think you're correcting me on.

The level of strategy and counter-strategy here is mind boggling. Pereira knew Izzy has him in the middle and at distance, so they devise a plan to mitigate that advantage with the leg kicks and use that to get him to the fence where Pereira has his shot. Izzy knows this too, and makes the preemptive plan of getting to the fence and risking the onslaught to catch him. That fight left me shook. Two of the best mma strikers of all time put on such an impressive performance. Really thought Pareira was beginning to snowball once Izzy had to switch his stance so he couldn't load up his right hand. But the sharp adjustment that made Alex leave himself open, and the power generated by Izzy from that short distance for the KO was incredible. I couldn't breath. He HAD to get a little hurt to sell his bluff. It was his entire game plan. He's been setting Alex up for this since the end of their first UFC fight by heavily insisting leg damage is actually what messed him up in interviews. He knew Alex would therefore go for it in the next fight. Put his hands up like it was all over to trigger Alex's predator instincts like a shark that smells blood so he'd come in for the kill with no regard for defense. Then he, well, froze him like Elsa lol. If you watch carefully, Israel actually almost set him up in the very first round but decided it was too early to not be obvious so he ate some more shots. Israel can't be honest about just how deliberate the entire thing was because he might have to face him again someday. Beat him with raw intelligence.

I got chills watching that knockout! I’ve probably ran it back 50 times already
Spot on Pereira was doing even better w the calf and leg kicks this time. I was getting worried for Izzy bc Alex had landed even more leg kicks in this fight than he had at same point in last fight. It's kinda crazy when I think about it. I felt like Izzy was winning and doing better in the striking last fight until he got TKO'd in 5th. Tonight I thought Pereira was doing better and looking even better than last fight, until 2nd when Izzy put him down. Flatlined. My guy was out cold 🥶 I feel it really shows how evenly matched they are. Comes down to fractions of an inch.. MMA is such an awesome sport. Best. Sport. Ever. 💯 Awesome fight, amazing night of fights

Nice observation, the difference being the leg kicks didn't do as much damage, there's this particular kick in the previous fight that really messed Izzy up he stepped into the kick and it hit right beside the knee. The fight changed a lot after you could telling Izzy couldn't put pressure on the leg anymore. The easy way to tell that his leg was fine was the way he celebrated after with the kickup and dance(both put pressure on his legs) which he both executed perfectly.

I gotta say it's great to see people show so much respect to Izzy after this. I know a lot of people felt some type of way about his fights, and this was his chance to show us he could overcome adversity and he did. The mental strength required to stand in front of someone who's had your number like Alex has and do that to him, it's just incredible.

It’s surprising to me that there won’t be another rematch for the trilogy. Izzy has already shot it down and Dana has expressed his wants for Alex to move up. I'm just personally glad there won't be another because lately the UFC is obsessed with people having trilogy fights ALL THE TIME. Divisions haven't been moving like they should lately simply due to this. Look at the divisions and see how frequent immediate rematches happen nowadays. Way too much
