GMOD VR: Exploring gm_Stormwald ( Tomb of the Secret Prisoner)

Ойын-сауық

We awaken in a prison cell, with no knowledge of how we got here. There's no one in the other cells - or anywhere, for that matter. What is this remote facility, and what is it hiding? More importantly, why was it left abandoned?

Here's a scary thought. Imagine waking up in a facility like this with no memory of how you got there, trying so hard find a way out. But then you finally find an exit, only to discover that during your time in the facility something happened to the world, leaving it desolate and lifeless wasteland.

This is a huge effect actually. I play vrchat and like 90% of the spaces there are designed to be as comfortable and cozy as possible and sometimes just the knowledge that there are empty hallways hidden from view is enough to spook me sometimes. I think the reason why looking through tiny openings is scarier than seeing a wide-open doorway is because of how often horror-themed media has used that situation as a set-up for a jump scare. You're expecting that tiny opening to suddenly be filled with a person's face looking back at you, or to have some otherworldly arm groping to try and catch you. Also, I'm kind of let down that you didn't use no-clip to fly over to that weird red light above the train tunnel. For some reason, I kept picturing that as some kind of glowing red entity, and I was expecting it to start moving in your direction the second you first hit that button that started the weird, distant warning sound.

Man, I wish I could play VR so bad. I've gotten into a horror game kick recently, but it's hard for me to really be invested in them (and therefore frightened by them) because immersion is what makes it spooky most of the time but rationalization and de-immersion (probably not a word) is my defense mechanism for horror. Being able to reach the level of immersion of *literally being physically immersed into the game* is such an amazing feeling. Helps that I never get motion sick!

This map does not only produce a feeling of anxiety in the game, but it also translates to real life. You start to think of real life you in this situation and not just from the perspective of a game character. Imagine after you watch this video, you blank out. The next thing you're greeted with when you open your eyes is a concrete room. Upon looking through the unnerving rectangle opening in the door, you see the entire facility is drowning in a deadly silence. You welcome the silence as you can hear anything that's moving around, but then you soon realise, that anything here can also hear you moving around. With no way to get out, no contact with the outside world, you begin to explore. As you wander the endless halls and staircases, you feel and hear something following you. Trying to avoid it, you move erratically, hoping not to end up in a dead end. In doing so, you eventually end up in the coolant room. You see no way out of this situation. You press the "raise" button and watch as the water grows closer to you. As you stand and watch, you hear the thing you've been dreading all along. It has finally found you. Out of fear, you tie something heavy to your foot and jump in the rising water. You may die to the facility, but at least it'll be better than being at the hands of that malevolent being which you've been trying to avoid all this time.

Ok, so, just weird recommendations. If you don't mind reading being your main access to a work, cultist simulator is exceptionally well written, if you don't mind having to bumble around and trial and error to figure out thing. Also, Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead, it's a game very much in the vain of dwarf fortress, and has alot in common with Zomboid, though it takes it's zombie setting in a notable eldritch horror bent, if you don't mind dying and watching a tutorial/doing some wiki diving (I can recommend Worm Girl's, she makes a lot of good content in general.) I think you could really get into it. Finally, Parasite Eve 1 and 2 (avoid 3, no one likes 3) are really strong survival horror/RPG showings by Square Enix, being their attempt in a world where Resident Evil basically had just become a thing, granted you don't mind emulation, the monster design is incredible and the story is really trying it's best.

2:36 Once again, descriptions that make me think of 'Ara and the Empty Universe' and its sequel 'Our Way Down'. Just some anomalous event occurred and for some reason you alone are untouched and wondering where everyone went.

You should try playing gmod using a mod called In the dark corner, its an npc that uuuuh,..,, acts like one of em dark ghouls from the haunted gmod maps but it wants to kill you as well, very fun i recommand, trust.

I don't know if you've heard of or been recommended it before, but have you ever played the Source game G String? Visually it's a tad bit similar to E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy, even then it's in a league of it's own. I highly recommend it if not for the story, the details of the world alone :)
