    Appreciate this, immensely! Pulled my own 6L80 from my 2015 Sierra 1500 4x4 with almost zero issues. Only one exhaust manifold bolt was a severe pain but I ran up and purchased a bolt extractor and slid a 14 mm over the nut on the driver side and hammered it in good and tight and used impact to back it off without damaging the studs.

    Man you are a saint. I can’t even begin to tell you how much this video helped me out. My transmission just blew up on me in my ‘15 Silverado with 152k miles. However I just had a baby recently and I’m in my off season for work, so I don’t have the money to take it to a shop. Followed along with your video and got my 6L80 pulled. The most I have ever done before is change a starter and brakes. So I am not a mechanic by any means

    Was wondering if you might help. I realize it’s a stretch diagnosing something long distance. I would appreciate your opinion very much. I have a 2018 Escalade, 26,500 miles has brand new tires, I thought it might help or solve the issue. Didn’t . It may be 2 issues or it could be related? The truck has a constant vibration at all speeds, but it also vibrates slightly or idles roughly at full stops. The engine feels powerful with no lags in acceleration. Very occasionally I notice a clunk when the truck shifts at a very low speed. The vibration is noticeable on the steering wheel and the seat. 2 dealers have told me that’s the way the truck is suppose to run. I asked them why it didn’t run like that brand new and one said , “ We can certainly take a look. I can have the shop foreman take it for a ride. Unfortunately, you are correct about one thing, and that is that we often get complaints for ride quality such as this. As mileage increases, components become more broken in.. and in turn, yes, can begin to not feel up to the same quality or smoothness that they once had. If the transmission is feeling like it is either sluggish or slipping, a transmission fluid change can be tried yes, and that may certainly could help. But at the end of the day, if the vehicle is operating in good condition, and no components are showing signs of degradation or failure, then really it may not be something that cannot so simply just be "fixed." “ Personally I think it’s an excuse to avoid all the work that might be necessary to accurately diagnose the problem, but I’m not a mechanic and have no idea how to figure out or diagnose issues. However I do love watching professionals like you perform amazing repairs. Thank you!

  • @expressautotransmissiondav4207

    @expressautotransmissiondav4207

    2 жыл бұрын

    To diagnose something like that would definitely be very involved and you are correct I think current opinions may be far fetched or even completely wrong. However if I was to start to examine a vehicle with that type of shake I would be starting with visual inspections. I would look at motor mounts and we'll as check fluid levels and conditions on all sumps. If you have the same or very similar shake at idle as well while moving I would suspect something around engine area or converter. Another area of concern is the idle vibration. I would be reaching out to other qualified shops in your immediate area for a second opinion. Having someone else look at it but not touch it.

    you have to change your fluid every 40 to 45,000 miles regardless of what the book says. These trucks you have to follow the severe service intervals or better. I’ve done that and put a lower thermostat in it many miles ago and I’m at 196K on the factory 6l80.

Only issue is lots of leaks, most likely the o-ring from the oil pump, seal and clutch o-ring the one in the shaft. will need to be replaced Im only planing pn use it like once a week. So im hoping it will last me lots of years more. After replacing those, and didnt know about the thermostat bypass. Dont know why GM put it if it fails?

    Me too Please 2017 Silverado 5.3 L First Transmission blown at 60,000, put a brand new one, Had a lifter stuck at cylinder 7, Told i needed to put a band aid on it by repairing left bank for $6000 or engine rehaul for $15k said no thanks did a dod/afm delete myself at home kept everything stock and replaced the camshaft for a gm delete cam because i had a chunk of metal that was taken out of it. That was at 100,000 miles ran great if not better then at 120,000 miles second transmission went out again torque converter failure and check ball#3 stuck in plate metal all through. Currently rebuilding my transmission myself i won't let anyone work on my truck from this point on. oh when i called gm about my engine and i complained on bbb website they called and offered me $1500 gm certificate towards the purchase of another silverado i laughed at them.

    There are three converter bolts if you can access the front crank bolt you can use a 1/2in ratchet to turn the engine over to get to the next bolts. Also not having any background always make sure the battery is disconnected and if the vehicle is on the ground use good quality jack stands safety is number one in my shop.

    The 6-speed in 2014+ trucks runs hot because they came from the factory with a thermostat that causes the hot fluid to bypass the transmission cooler until it reaches a certain temperature. That's why they're always at 190 degrees or hotter. If you want to reduce those temps, there a multiple ways of doing it. GM has a different thermostat out now, there are aftermarket bypass thermostats made specifically for the 6L80, or there are ways of modifying the original bypass (not recommended but many guys do it).

    Good video, you lose audio in a few places tho. Like around 26:19 I couldn't get the truck in neutral last time and had to put everything back together. Saw RainmanRay just took the shift lever off the transmission and used pliers to turn the lever into neutral? How do you get it in neutral if you put it on the jack stands in park? BTW don't know if you mentioned it but when you're showing the shift lever at 26:22 the shift cable bushing looks to be nearly wasted. THEY WILL EVENTUALLY FALL OFF AND YOUR COLUMN SHIFTER WILL BE INOPERABLE It happened to me. Sketchy af. And will happen at the worst time and place. There's a kit to fix them, a little aftermarket bushing and a snap clip. You gotta drill out the original hole tho some. it's pretty easy. Always check this bushing tho, not fun to have the shift lever fall off while you've just shifted into drive and the truck is running and now you can't shift back into park. Should have been a recall on that bushing.

    nice video the sound needs some help .but any way these transmissions have all the same issue "HEAT" that dumb thermostat that control the trans temp are set to high and GM knows it!!! they swiftly & quietly replace that stat with a repayment one with a 50* lower open rate in later years .The trucks 2014-2017 run a 200* + and burn up the fluid & converter. The GM REPLACE stat now open's at 160*. I have a 2014 and bought a bypass plug that replaces the stat my truck run's now at 140*-150*.

Well the truck will drive now and does good until you get to overdrive then it shudders really bad..the trans magnet did have quite a bit of sludge..the truck has 140 thousand miles.. before I changed the filter and fluid the truck would come to a stop and would act like it was in neutral while you was in drive..all this happened in 2 weeks of time.. I really think the tourge converter started this mess.. as of right now I’m still riding it and it does good until it shifts to overdrive.. what would you recommend... another filter change or a complete rebuild or maybe a torge converter replacement.. It doesn't line up to a certain spot. However there is one converter bolt hole that is oval shaped if you install that bolt first the other two will always line up. If not then you have to leave the bolts loose till all three are started before being able to fully tighten them.

    Side question Does anyone know what issues if any there may be if I eliminate the exhaust pipe that runs under the transmission pan? I'm sure that contributes to the death of these transmissions along with making fluid and filter changes more difficult

  • @351cleavland

    @351cleavland

    2 жыл бұрын

    I dropped the pan for a fluid change, added a drain plug and then used some reflecta-heat with adhesive to the front and side of the pan in order to block much of the heat soaking into the trans pan. I also installed a trans thermostat bypass fro Superior. That and the Sonnax zip kit made a HUGE difference in overall shifting and cooling.

    We replaced with used transmission. Getting no communication while trying to reflash tcm in used transmission. Is the TCM considered an internal part of the transmission and should be under warranty or is the tcm considered seperate from the transmission warranty. Technical question but just curious how most technicians view that.

  • @expressautotransmissiondav4207
