This is one of those videos that I don't think the average person can quite appreciate. Complete removal of an entire drivetrain almost in less than 40 minutes with zero cussing. Unreal.

At least he has a lift and plenty of room getting to bolts. I did an Audi A4 Quattro 1.8t on jack stands converting it from an automatic to a manual. The auto is a difficult beast to get out since the AWD is build into it so no separate transfer case. Very wide transmission you have to pivot sideways to get out because of the front CV axle flanges that sick out.

Smooth!
I just take the bracket loose on the t. case instead of cutting the tie downs. This must be a 2500 series going by the exhaust setup. A bit easier on a 1500. The PB really does help. Spray before you start and by the time you get to the exhaust bolts they should be good. You'll lose some time if have the rear shaft that has to be wrenched out. Good job man.
Thank the lord for ratchet wrenches! I bout needed a Xanax watching him take that shield off around the 5min area lol This was a great video though!

That could be cured if he improved his order of operations a little. He should have removed the Y pipe first. Also could have removed the trans cooler lines before trying to snake through them to get one of the bellhousing bolts out.

I have 2015 lt 4x4 chevy suburban and the 4x4 is on and because of that my transmission heats 🥵 up and I don't know if there is away to fix the 4x4 without changing the transmission.
Great Video! My sons flexplate is rattling and he wants to replace it. My neighbor is like we can do it just take the top bolts out and get some threaded rod and slide it out a few inches and we can do it with out removing the whole 6L90 ....I would love your thoughts on if you thought that possible.

Well it really sounds like the converter is pushing on the pump gears. If the converter wasn’t all the way back in the transmission it could’ve messed the pump up

Would you still remove the transfer case if you were only changing the torque converter? Maybe for clearance to drop it down?

It’s usually real fine metal on those. You can try just a converter. Usually a valve in the pump causes problems too. And the 1-2-3-4 3-5-Rev drum goes bad a lot

Yeah. Just pulls off. Sometimes they’re hard to get a hold of to get off. I have used some long needle nose pliers to reach up in there and get a hold of it.
How do those hoses connect? Changed transmission and seems to be leaking from the transmission vent hose,
@ltstransmissionhowto5158

Shouldn’t be leaking From the vent hose unless it’s way over full or building up pressure.
Are you only replacing the torque converter? Does the transmission oil cooler need to be replaced also? I have one with a noise coming from the torque converter area and am installing a low mile replacement transmission. I wish I'd watched your video before buying the replacement transmission. Maybe I would only be replacing the torque converter area and not have to deal with the reprogramming.
@ltstransmissionhowto5158

That’s weird to have a noise. Coming from the converter on these. I would pull and check the flex plate. Make sure there’s not a crack in it.
Awesome video. Gonna drop one and change the rear main seal for a guy at work. Wont have the convenience of a lift but I should be able to get it down in a decent amount of time

The exhaust manifold to Y-pipe gaskets, one of the gaskets looks like a ring, the other looks like a cone. maybe just a transfer case gasket as well they rip apart some times. And fluid, everything else and the nuts and bolts are reusable.
Is the 6l90 better than the 6l80 my 6l80 is burnt on my 2012 silverado z71 and I'm going to buy a brand new Tran but if I can put a 6l90 directly and if it holds better I'm doing it is it a direct fit? Is this an upgrade like the 4l60 to 4l80 just in newer trucks??
@ltstransmissionhowto5158
Жыл бұрын
I believe the 6L90 is a little longer. Don’t quote me on that because I’m not 100% sure. The issues that the 6L80 has the 6L90 has too. If you could get the 6L80 with a few of the upgrades it would be great. The 1-2-3-4 and 3-5-rev drum has a weak spot. An upgraded one has a better weld. There’s a piston that tends to crack, sonnax has and updated one. Also try to get a HD converter. They have a thicker cutch and a thicker backing plate. The 6L90 is not as big a difference from the 6L80 that 4L60 is from the 4L80

Can you tell me L T. how long it actually took you to take the transmission out Standing? If there's anybody near Germantown Maryland I have some time to help me I'd be willing to pay them. With a person helping me, we could probably do it in less than 4 hours
