Gloria Estefan & Daughter's Emotional Coming Out Talk

Ойын-сауық

Gloria and Emily Estefan are getting real about a painful time in their relationship: when Emily came out. The music icon and her 25-year-old daughter relived their conflict on Facebook Watch's "Red Table Talk: The Estefans," which they host with Gloria's cousin Lili. "I was like, 'Hey, I'm in love with this girl,'" Emily recalled of telling Gloria she liked women. "The first thing you said was, "If you tell your grandma, and she dies, your blood is on her hands." The mother and daughter went on to emotionally discuss their perspectives on the conflict and where they stand now.

Why Is that such a big deal? I would have said the same to my child, when it comes to my mother at 90. Gay, people must allow parents, grandparents to be true to THEIR OWN belief systems! It doesn't always mean they don't love you. Damn!!!

If the public and the people who buy her c.d.'s can't or won't except who she is then screw those people. If people are going to hate you for being you, then you don't need those kinds of people. Emily do what you want with your life no matter what your family says or what so-called music fans say. You don't owe anyone an explanation about who you are or who you love.

I think Gloria was just really thinking of herself and what others might say. Her grandmother probably wouldn’t have taken it so good because in her times but who knows. Like I said, I think Gloria just thought of herself and fame. Look how she mentioned, right before you put out your album. For me that’s just thinking of fame and fortune.

Gloria Estefan’s daughter might not understand how strict the “olden ways” of the Latino culture is about being gay and trying to live up to what a society and religion dictates. Sadly, it sounds like Gloria is still worrying about what others may say and what her family will think, including the grandmother before she died. Being Latina/Hispanic myself, moms like to blame the child for everything; we are known to be dramatic. (Not all and some do it in a “joking manner.”) In any case, words hurt and you can’t take them back. She claims she was protecting the grandmother but in reality it feels like Gloria was protecting her own face/reputation. It comes off like that especially to her daughter whom should have been her priority. Her daughter was hurt and suicidal. It’s going to take time for Gloria to fully come around as those religious and cultural teachings/stereotypes against gay relationships are broken down. The most important thing is to heal, communicate and listen to each other. Accept your daughter for whom she is. The death of the grandma should have taught both of them that life is too precious and short to be fighting. Family is more important than what society thinks. ❤️❤️

Bull shit! Gay people (in my mind) choose to sleep with the same sex: kinda sorta (?) That's between them and who they sleep with: As long as children aren't involved! And as long as they aren't pretending to be something they are not, ie; down low! Otherwise, why should some folks, have to be OK, with the(gay preference) over simply loving the person they thought they knew?

Gloria had a right to look out for not only her feelings, but her mother's. Is she not allowed time to process that information? Did it mean she didn't love her child, because MOM didn't immediately say OH GREAT! Gay folks etc, have no right to shame their families for the choices and YES CHOICES they make. So, why not understand just that!

Definitely much weaker than her Daughter...Gloria E sounded like she gave excuses and the fact of the matter was SHE didnt like it or accept it...n the whole tone & attitude behind her calling her Daughter "Momma" was annoying as F... Made GE look even weaker & more stupid... for the sake of being a Mother she could of at least STFU with calling her kid "Momma" ...I get it---somehow calling your kid "Momma" is a thing...but its a really sad thing in this instance and quite stupid in any other in my opinion...I feel so bad for that kid... n parents like her really piss me off.

It's pretty sad to see a woman craving all the attention when her grams was sick. She has her whole life to come out, her grams life was ending. She's disrespectful af to her mom and needs to apologize for being an entitled whiny brat who thinks the world revolves around her.

@@starkravingralph She said she was suicidal FFS! Seems like you think she should apologise for being gay, more than the timing of her coming out. I see a girl in deep pain with a mother who, for whatever reasons (cultural/religious etc) still can't really accept her daughter. As a gay man who Estefans songs got me through many a difficult time, I'm a little sad. Yes, I'm sure there is more to the story & in a tv interview everything's condensed...but still..my first reaction is sadness. You can't choose when to come out to a parent nor should she have had to consider anything else that may or may not have been going on in their lives at the time. Simply doesn't work like that. All the best to you & yours.
