With the test ties on different clay bodies where they fired with a drop hold in just a straight cone 5/6? I have just opened my kiln ( only my second glaze firing) it was a hot cone 5 with a and a bowl came out beatifully, loads of gold. My shedule was 1193°C, hold for 5 minutes, the let temp drop to 1093 and held there for 30 minutes on buff stoneware clay body. Kiln not opened until it had got down to 45°C.

Please include store bought bisque (Mayco stoneware mugs for example ) in your tests . I have a “paint and go” studio and lots of people look for gold when glazing their pieces

IMO this glaze is not a good choice for your customers. Ancient copper is much easier to work with with predictable, pretty results.

I suggest you use stoneware bisque, not low-fire bisque, but when we did testing with commercial bisque we found the absorption rate to be so inconsistent that it might work differently on different pieces, even if they appear the same. ~Cara

hi, for people not in USA, can you please describe the clay bodies so we can emulate clay body in other countries, eg New Zealand. Thankyou

It's very complicated, but what I found was that Vintage Gold performed best on non-vitreous clay bodies, rather than clay bodies that were vitrified at the glaze firing temperature. ~Cara

I found that it is very dark and very difficult to work with, I have never gotten the result as shown on the label … so what I am doing wrong ???

Try a longer hold like 20 minutes at cone 5. I recommend a lot of test tiles and keep careful notes. I place a lot of glaze at the top of the piece 4 coats, and 2 coats at the bottom. Then I use a firing disk in case it runs down.

If it's coming out dark it is most likely not applied thick enough. Try making a test tile with increasing coats. ~Cara
