Love this mat!! This mat is a time saver for me and frees up my work area because I can do my project without cluttering up my space. Clean up is a breeze. Love this mat!

I've had the black mat for over 6 months and I absolutely love it! The ease of cleaning and the fact that I can use a heat tool on it were some of the contributing factors for me. I do admire the white one and might purchase it one day but, for now I love the black glass one and will never go back to the tan craft mat. Thank you Vicky for your review.

I bought the white one after you gave a review on it some time ago, and I love it. It's a real easy to clean experience, no mess stays visible. I agree with you when it comes to healing mats, they're porous and easy to stain, in no time they become a mess. I'll never go back to mats neither. :)

Thank you for the review. Many things are so trendy but not long lasting. I'm glad this is a basic tool that a crafter should have in their arsenal and that you have tested it for over a year. I've had a self-healing mat for years and so I would hope that this tempered glass mat would serve me just as long.

Thanks for the review Vicky. Great tips I didn't know about. I have had this glass mat on order since March & I'm still waiting for it to come. It seems that they have had such an overwhelming response for it, that they are so back logged in production. They tell me now that it should be shipped by July 11. Time will tell. Also wanted you to know that I too have not had good luck with my self healing mat. It is so warped (because of heat) that I can't wait to get rid of it.

I hope you are enjoying the summer with your children and the beach. Whenever you are back I have a question, Couldyou speak to the black vs white surface differences between the two mats? I just wonder if the color of the glass mat impacts your work. It’s been the biggest question for me but I’ve not heard anyone discuss that factor. I’ve admired your white mat for a long time. (Well, honestly, all your work. You are so inspiring!)

kazoomi2 in the video I do compare the two and for me the main difference is the grid, inches vs cm. Other that that you get used to the color of the background... I have no particular preference on that.

Vicky Papaioannou thank you for the amazingly quick response. It was the working on the black vs white that I wondered about. On video it appears easier to see your inks etc that are actually on the white when you work (blending, etc) but I’m guessing they can be seen in real life on the black. Probably just hard to see in the video. I’ll check out your link as I think I need to get this!

@kazoomi2 I have the white one, thanks to Vicki's review of it. I love it for the fact that it is white. That for me was a bigger factor than the grid being in centimeters. I don't measure on my mat and the grid still works for lining up. I opted for the mat with a white background and I am very very happy with it. My concern about color visibility on the black mat made it a no-go for me.

TG Bears thank you. That is where my concern has been. Perhaps I should consider the white mat and add the white replacement inking mat. While I am in the US the centimeters vs inches doesn't matter as I'll continue to use my paper trimmer to do most (measured) cutting. I almost think the centimeter marking might be more useful in centering placements etc. I've also really liked the layering and other info on the white mat. I shall have to sleep on this

@kazoomi2 Do keep in mind though that the layering guides on the white mat are also in metric, so they don't work when using the imperial cardmaking system of 4.25x5.5, 6x6, etc

I ordered the black one. Already had the white one. I was looking forward to being able to cut on it but the first time I tried cutting a piece of light chipboard I got a long diagonal scratch on it. I was a little disappointed so will still use the cutting mat. I was using the same craft knife that you were using in your demo!!

Thanks for your reply, Mandy. You are right, I think. I will admit the mat has it's good features but then as with any tool we order, I think that we expect too much. Like Computers, they're only as good as the user. I think it also has to do with where these products are manufactured. Years ago with most product made in the US, the standards were higher and the quality control that was in place was better. Not so anymore! Oh well, I guess all you can say these days is *buyer beware*!

enjoyed your video! Can the white removable craft mat be used for other techniques? I got water-based ink on the textured side of the mat & it won't come off! suggestions?

I would say your best option is to use alcohol to clean it. But even if it doesn’t don’t forget that that is it’s purpose... protect your table from paints that stain.

I love that glass mat, but i can't afford it, maybe someday!

Do NOT use cutting knives on the glass, it dulls too quick, I use the glass matt too, but cut on a selfhealing Matt next to it.

Hi Vicky, I have been watching reviews of the glass mat (black one) and was wondering how it works when using polymer clays ...does the clay stick like it does using a slightly worn silicone mat? No one has addressed this issue. Thanks Carol-Lynn

I don't work with polymer clay so I can't help you with that. This is glass.... try working with clay on any glass you have at home to test it out ... and if you like the results then consider it :)

If you had to buy one or the other (white vs this one), which one do you prefer and why?

They are basically the same product. I would choose based on the measurements.... what are you used to work with? cm or inches? if you use cm then go with the white if you use inches go with the black. But if you are familiar with both systems then decide on the color you want to look at when you craft.

Not good for left handers, I realize you can turn it so the white part is on the left, but then that puts on a number upside down. A left hander could "make do", but for $50 I am not about to "make do". I know we are a very small number of the population and we typically have to make so and most time it doesn't matter, in this case it does

I am a lefty too. I have been frustrated for a few years now that many of the best products are not available in a left-handed version. Frankly, I am tired of making do - and think us lefties need to stop making do, and start demanding products we can use properly. 15% of the population is not as small as some other sub populations in the marketplace, and yet companies accommodate them -- we have to start expecting that too, or businesses will never change. I am even happy to special order some of the products with the realization that they would need to meet a threshold number to place the order.

Scratches are a big problem with this one and I am reluctant to buy it because of this. It is a costy item after all.

Great video but can’t get the mat here in Ohio. I ordered it 5 months ago and still not available 😢😢

I actually wrote to Tonic and told them they should not promote a product as much as they did and not have it totally in stock and ready to be shipped out!!!! I said 'shame on you'!!!! I did receive a reply that they were going to start shipping very soon. That was about 2 weeks ago! And it look like they did! Unfortunately it seems Simon Says still didn't get them in. I can't wait to get mine from Scrapbook.com!!!!

I just bought mine at Joann.com when it was 40% off! Think it was $30 delivered. Very pleased

It's funny how you didn't get any scratches or cut marks when you used the sharp knife. People leaving remarks on the web site complained that their's have scratches from cutting directly on the glass mat.

there are people who have really high end craft knifes, white surgical blades and these are really sharp. I use regular craft knifes and never had a problem. I keep using them regularly in my videos when I make cards with no issues. I guess it depends on how much cutting they do and what type of blade they are using!

I have been trying to order the first Tonic Tempered Glass Mat since you featured it last year and it was sold out everywhere in the U.S. until 2 months ago! Now that I have it, I dislike it because there’s something in between the printing and the glass that makes it always look filthy. Does anyone have this problem with theirs? Before I go ordering the new black mat, I’m wondering if the same issue exists. Thank you.
