Giving Birth during Coronavirus-a COVID Birth Story & Interview - Kristin & Scott

Giving birth can be a scary enough proposition for first-time parents. Giving birth during the COVID-19 pandemic can add a whole new level of anxiety to the whole process.
That's why we sat down with 2 couples who did just that.
In this video, we talk with Kristin and Scott, a couple who gave birth in August 2020 in Maryland. We cover a broad range of topics including:
- Pregnancy during coronavirus
- The actual birth & time at the hospital: differences, expectations
- What life has been like after bringing their new baby home from the hospital

We had a baby in September and it is a surreal experience. We have been trying to have a baby for 3 years, and what a year for it to finally happen. My parents live out of country and have yet to meet our baby because of lockdowns, so that has been interesting. But it was a bit of a blessing because my wife had a pretty rough pregnancy and I was teleworking for a couple months before our baby was born. But as the couple in the video said, it’s had its ups and downs. My wife was so excited to go to stores and buy all the baby stuff, and that didn’t happen. Once we found out the sex of our baby, Covid was already in full swing and we didn’t want my wife going out and possibly getting sick and hurting the baby. My wife also planned to have her mom and grandma in the delivery room for support, since they’ve been through it before. I think the hardest part will be not having family at our house for babies first Christmas. Christmas is a huge deal for my wife’s family, so not being with there will be tough. But the best thing about the whole situation is being able to spend so much time with my wife and baby due to the fact that we don’t have tons of people coming over to see the baby all the time. Sad for everyone else, but kind of nice for us.😜 Love watching your videos. I went down a deep rabbit hole on baby tech right after my wife got pregnant, which is when I discovered your channel. Keep up the good work.👍

Thank you for sharing your story! I definitely understand the feeling of not being able to have family around during and after the birth of your child but I’m happy you guys found some silver linings. Hoping you and the family are doing well and thanks for the support!

I had my baby in May. We had to cancel our baby shower and had to try and order things online. It was crazy what was/wasn’t considered essential baby product wise when shipping. Baby stores were closed so going to get things was difficult. Wipes were gone off shelves. My hospital experience was very similar to the couple’s experience. The difference for me was as a nurse working on a unit that would get covid patients I was not excluded from being given covid positive patients unless another nurse was willing to take the patient even with a doctors note. (Now pregnant women are excluded from taking care of covid positive patients). Even now 7 months later I work with covid positive patients and even with a doctor’s note I have to pump on my unit.
