Give Me an Answer -

Cliffe Knechtle has a good dialogue with students at Texas State University. Recorded in October 2016.
The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

How incredibly blessed we are to have Cliffe on the scene doing his wonderful thing. It's helping us isn't it. I, and many others like me have gleaned so much from his teaching, because not only does he seek to instruct those who are yet to believe, but also he teaches us too, the onlookers, onhow to defend our faith. He grows our never ceasing appreciation of Jesus Christ our loving Saviour and Redeemer. He feeds the lambs and the sheep.

Our great strength comes from not ourselves but from GOD. From knowing that GOD is our GOD, our friend. It is HE who watches over us. GOD is aware of us. The effects of aloneness are greatly diminished if we enter into this realisation. And whilst we don't see GOD, neither do we see HIS mighty Holy angels, sent by GOD to minister unto us. ( Psalm 34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them who fear HIM, and delivereth them. ) And their ministration results in the lifting of our minds, bracing us to face the day, So we can also say like David said, Psalm 18:1 "The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer, my GOD, my strength, in whom I will trust, my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower." Our life is one of duty. Duty to GOD. And duty to those whom GOD has put into our sphere of influence. And if we do our duty we will be content knowing we have given our all.

-Is not call Catholic Bible, is call Alexandrian canon (73 books) in which they were approved in the 4th council of carthage (in Africa in the 5th century). The Deuterocanonical books of the Old Testament came from Greek spoken Jews after the council of Jamnia finished, and Hebrew spoken Jews rejected them because it had Greek influence. But Martin Luther moved them to the appendix (in the 1500s) when translating the Bible in German, and later were removed by protestants having this way the Hebrew canon (66 books) which is no different from the Alexandrian canon (73 books) when it comes to the New Testament. Even if the Deuterocanonical books were not consider inspired, they are definitely important historical books because anyone that doesn't read Maccabees will not understand the Hanukkah and how Greeks were determined to exterminate Jews if it wasn't for Maccabees. Deuterocanonical books are very precious books. The Vedas are NOT historical books, so the Bible is not borrowing anything from anyone, as a matter of fact, all religions came from man's perspectives except Christianity, Christianity is the only one that came from eye witnesses.

The King James version is a much better translation that these modern versions which came out in the 1900s. All of the textual issues that Cliffe has to defend concerning the NIV, is not an issue in the King James version, which is more accurate and came out 300 years before all these modern ones. Cliffe's opponents would have no basis for saying the text is missing stuff if only the King James existed.

I am sorry but i have to disagree. The abundant amount of manuscripts discovered after the kJV have allowed the "modern versions" to better translate, understand, and interpret the Bible in an accurate way. KJV is great but it is not the only, more superior version.

There are many missing scriptures from these new versions, and also they use poor wording and create confusion about what is being said in many occasions. The Textus Receptus or the received texts were accepted as being accurate many years before these other manuscripts came up which the newer ones are translated from.

Sir, you don't need evidence to believe, you simply need faith. John 20:29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen(evidence) me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen(faith), and yet have believed. Hebrews 11:1 King James Version 11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

We have to persist and never give up. We knock on the door and we keep knocking until it opens. We never give up. We don't understand the meaning of the expression give up. It's not in our book of words. Most people eventually give up if the door doesn't open quickly enough. Droplets of soft harmless water will out do rock. Soft water will beat the hardest rock in the world. In amazement inoffensive weak water wears away at rock and wins the battle. And so do we. We will prevail. The Lord is for us. All we have to do is keep knocking and like soft water, the hardest doors must swing open and we will walk through. It will happen. Paul 🤣😁🤡

He should have mentioned about the church fathers or to see how/what the church was like during the time of the early christians and the disciples. The early church believed that the Eucharist is truly the body and blood of Jesus Christ. Almost all of the denominations deny that, but only the orthodox and the catholic church believe in this.

There is a drug called atheism. Once tasted it's hard to go back to the matter of fact called God. Atheism will make you soar. Soaring and exploring galore. But there is real life. And though I have begun my journey given to me by Jesus Christ, along the never ending pathway of eternity, God will never cease to exist. And as great as I become, God will always be greater, infinitely greater. I accept that. But the atheist won't. He has tasted the drug of atheism. He likes it. He savours it. Even if the the taste is euphoric I will go without that self deceitful destructive taste. Stay far away from drugs. Run from atheism. It will destroy thee.

1st Onehere there are advantages in not saying the same old same old in the same old way. If you can say the same old same old slightly differently then there is a greater chance of it being more well received. However yes you are right. It's old. Very old. Ancient isn't it. Old fashioned. But if you are a thinker you can entertain yourself thinking as to why people once were that way. It's interesting actually. Do you realise that it's highly probable that people had more confidence in themselves way back when the words such as thou, thee, thine, thyself and so on were in use.

paulwilfridhunt I know people feel the English ascent sounds more authoritarian. That's why anytime an actor portraying someone with superiority oftentimes has a English ascent. Elizabethan dialect gives the bible a sense of ancient authority that is truly misplaced and invalid. You and many others are imagining God, Jesus and all the the Bible characters speaking in a dialect that wouldn't exist for over a thousand years after them. You have proven that you can't separate the message from the way that it was presented to you. This is why Christians cling to this old translation. If saying something in a different way was generally more effective, why don't schools, newscast, public speakers or anyone trying to convey information speak like that? English speaking Christians are the only ones keeping this dialect alive. The reason being it has a psychological effect on the reader and believer. It's a old language that sounds authoritative. The thought that people in the past felt more confident speaking like this is pure speculation. You feeling like that to me is further proof of its psychological affect. I think that the people that spoke that way felt the same way you feel when speaking modern english.

You make a good point 1stOnehere, I'd also add that I'm sure many Christians actually have a fixed idea as to what Jesus actually looked like, and it's an image we see in most modern day pictures of a slightly tanned shoulder length hair, blue eyed friendly faced character wearing a white robe. The truth is, we have no idea what Jesus actually looked like (or even if he actually existed in real life). What if he came back tomorrow, and he didn't look as most people imagined him, lets say he was a small balding black guy with a really long nose, it would crush a lot of people's faith i think. Just a thought there :-)

Those that Repent and Trust in the Lord Jesus Christ & Believe in Him will be saved. Repentance is important and cannot be done without Jesus. Repentance is not a work it is something we are all called to do, especially Christians. It's possible to be led astray and to backslide into Sin which we know leads to separation from God. The Bible is very consistent when you're able to understand what it means to repent go back and see all the times when the Old Testament Believers would repent it still applies to us New Testament believers as well.

Well sorry lady but this kind of behaviour may work with children but not with adults she is extremely intolerant of others views especially Christianity she seems open to accept all other ancient writing as possible truth but not the New Testament. I wonder does she know that we have more historical manuscripts for Jesus than any other ancient person and to reject Jesus as a historical figure then she must also rule out all other ancient people like plato or Alexander the great because the manuscripts evidence for them is miniscule next to the manuscripts for Jesus.

The Roman manuscripts from this time correspond with the New Testament manuscripts so we know Pontius Pilate really existed. Historian's have said the New Testament manuscripts are a very reliable and are accurate accounts of life in 1st century middle east.

Saints don't sin on a regular basis and Romans 7 Paul was not speaking of his present state...it was his past. Paul said he kept his body under subjection lest he preach the gospel but he himself be a castaway. Many are interpreting Romans 7 incorrectly. Paul declared he was dead to sin and did not continue in it. Paul said who you serve you are slave to. If you serve sin...sin is your master. John writes to us as well confirming Paul's writings of once in Christ we dont or no longer sin. 1 John 3:5-9 KJV And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. [6] Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. [7] Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. [8] He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. [9] Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

I think what the professor (in the hiking attire) was trying to say is that Jesus plagiarized Confucius who legend claims said this 300 years before Jesus, "one should not treat others in ways that one would not like to be treated". But no man spoke like Jesus. Jesus's statement is a universe apart from Confucius' proverb which basically says, you leave your neighbor alone, and hopefully there will leave you alone. But what Jesus said is to do unto others - take the initiative - what you would wish they would do unto you.

I love Cliff but “Up until the 1880’s every Protestant Bible (not just Catholic Bibles) had 80 books, not 66! The inter-testamental books written hundreds of years before Christ called “The Apocrypha” were part of virtually every printing of the Tyndale-Matthews Bible, the Great Bible, the Bishops Bible, the Protestant Geneva Bible, and the King James Bible until their removal in the 1880’s! The original 1611 King James contained the Apocrypha, and King James threatened anyone who dared to print the Bible without the Apocrypha with heavy fines and a year in jail. Only for the last 120 years has the Protestant Church rejected these books, and removed them from their Bibles. This has left most modern-day Christians believing the popular myth that there is something “Roman Catholic” about the Apocrypha. There is, however, no truth in that myth, and no widely-accepted reason for the removal of the Apocrypha in the 1880’s has ever been officially issued by a mainline Protestant denomination.”

Cliffe is usually right on, but he blew his answer regarding the apocryphal (deuterocanoncial books to Catholics) books of the Bible. The Council of Trent (1545-1564) infallibly reiterated what the Church had long taught regarding the canons of the Old and New Testaments. Pope Damasus promulgated the Catholic canons at the Synod of Rome in A.D. 382, and later, at the regional councils of Hippo (393) and Carthage (397, 419), the Church again defined the same list of books as inspired. The canons of the Old and New Testaments, as defined by Pope Damasus and the Councils of Hippo and Carthage, were later ratified (though the books were not enumerated individually) by the later Ecumenical councils of II Nicaea (787) and Florence (1438-1445). Although the Council of Trent, in response to the Protestant violation of the Bible by deleting the seven Deuterocanonical books plus portions of Daniel and Esther, was the first infallible conciliar listing of each individual book, it certainly did not add those books to the canon. If that were the case, how could Martin Luther and the other Reformers have objected to the presence of those books decades before the Council of Trent if they weren't in the canon to begin with and were added by the Council of Trent? The Council of Trent merely confirmed what had been accepted throughout Church history as canon.

"You have love yourself before you can love others" why?? this doesn't make sense, many people don't love themselves for various reasons, they may have low self esteem or be depressed and they still love people. We make sacrifices for others sometimes even at the cost of our own happiness otherwise how would any relationship ever work if I were to love myself before others then I would never want to sacrifice anything for anyone because we all want our own way not the way of others we all want to be happy, you don't have to love yourself to love others that's a silly slogan which many repeat but rarely think about. Jesus actually said the opposite we should deny ourselves and follow Him because our way is selfish and evil towards others it's not our will but His wish that has power. And Jesus said "do" onto others what you would have them do to you in the positive, all others who wrote about the "golden rule" have it in the negative they say "don't" do onto others what you wouldn't have done to you, there's a difference Jesus says to do good for others be kind, loving and forgive them as you yourself would like. He is encouraging kindnesses and love. All the others say "don't" do unto others so don't hurt someone because you wouldn't like to be hurt, but this says nothing about being kind and loving to others it just says don't hurt them this doesn't encourage feeding the poor or helping the sick because nobody causes this upon someone it happens and if we were to follow the "don't do unto others" why should one care about those people because we didn't cause it we didn't hurt them. But with Jesus version it tells us that we ourselves could be hungry or sick and we would like someone to be kind to us that's why we should do it.

King of Kings -- There is a difference between loving one's self and being selfish and egocentric. While I don't agree with anything else the lady at the beginning of the video said, I *do* agree that we need to love ourselves before we can truly love our neighbours. I struggle with self-hatred, low self-esteem, and depression every day of my life, and believe me, when you hate and judge yourself, you hate and judge the world. 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you' -- I can tell you that in the depths of my depression, I have literally begged family members to hit and abuse me to replace the emotional pain with physical. And because I hate myself so much some days, I reject and even feel disgusted when someone else tries to show me kindness, and I push them away. And although I would never treat someone else that way, I am certainly not inclined to go out and 'do unto others' when I am seeking abuse. This is not to say everyone else struggling with depression has the exact same attitude I have; everyone is different and has different ways of coping or reacting. But yes, if you don't love and value yourself first the same way Christ loves and values you, it is still a hindrance to being able to love your neighbour as fully as Christ would have you do.

God is too powerful to let mere men and Satan distort His word. We know why Satan tries to distort God’s word because God says through Jesus Christ “ love your enemies “ God says love Him and love your neighbor and enemies. 'older manuscripts are better'. This is such a fallacy. Don't we believe in an all powerful, all knowing God who preserved his word? The Bible says the word of God will endure to all generations and not one jot or riddle shall pass away. Saying the foot votes state that the end of Mark wasn't supposed to be there because it wasn't in the earlier manuscripts is garbage. These were corrupt manuscripts that weren't used hence why some of theme were found in the dumpster of a monastery. I would rather go with the Bible that has lasted all generations than the corrupt manuscript that, yes may be older, but was not available to all Christians throughout time. That would mean that God didn't preserve His word... Very simple. Kjv only is the only legit position to have as an English speaker. Older isn't better. Preserved is the best.
