Lewin was always in tremendous shape. He was as powerful as any of the other big men like LOD, Demolition, Simmons. Incredible athletes. You gotta love the maniac.

Super entertaining and creative match, Gino and Lewin were using chairs long before they became fashionable in the 90's. Awesome rivalry! 👍✌

@@travels129 Only because the script today would demand it. That does not mean it is fake, it is like a play on stage and movies, choreographed fights, but they are extreme athlete and well trained wrestlers, well most of them. In our day they fought a Greco Roman style match at a closed Gym in the afternoon to determine the winner that night, then they fought the choreographed match that night with a predetermined winner from the afternoon match. I worked out with the Von Steiger Brothers, Frank Carpenter and others at Memorial Drive Gym but I did not want to put on the weight/muscle because I studied Martial Arts/Karate as well. All a great bunch of guys who treated me fantastically even when I booed them at the matches, it was the business. Mark Lewin was a great performer/wrestler as a good guy or a heel/bad guy. I laugh at the undertaker.

This is the infamous match that Gary Hart talked about in his book. The finish was originally supposed to be Lewin beating up Gino and Gary and tossing them into the cage as Paul Boesch requested. Gary saw the finish as Paul burying Gino due to the tension between Paul and Fritz Von Erich. They double-crossed Paul with the finish. Shortly after, the Houston office left the NWA. On a side note, when you talk about great babyfaces, Mark Lewin deserves a lot more credit. All of this Houston footage has really been a revelation into how great he is with crowd psychology. Its a shame he is mostly known only for the Purple Haze gimmick.

Mark Lewin's older brother Ted Lewin became a writer after his wrestling career ended, and he did much writing about pro wrestling. The Lewin brothers were inspired quite a bit by old school heel Dangerous Danny McShain.

Whoa, I must be getting old. I was a big Houston Wrestling fan and was in the prime wrestling demographic in May 1980 - 14 years old. Yeah, I used to hate Gino Hernandez and thought Gary Hart was evil incarnate. But I don't remember Mark Lewin being a face. I do recall a "Gary Hart in a cage" match. But I guess I forget it was Lewin as the face in the match. Thanks for posting! Even the worst Houston Wrestling match is better than the best WWE match today.

It's was not fair to put Gary hart in cage that looked like it was from the bottom of the ocean and only a very small child could fit in it . Gino's was so good in and out of the ring he should have been world champion. Thank you for posting this is how wrestling used to be not that WWE trash today

Saw Mark Lewin wrestle frequently in Australia in the 60's. Bigger boy- but think he only used iron. He's soooh much bigger in these later videos that he must have been using steroids. Makes the McMahon steroid built hulks look like the talentless goons they are.

Not hard to believe but both Gino AND Mark Lewin, along with 'The Spoiler' Don Jardine, were all Gary Hart's "go to guys". Also, Gino and Chris Adams did this exact same match later on with Kevin & Kerry Von Erich in Dallas during the Hair angle when, guess who was booking at that time? You guessed it. Gary Hart.

Ric Flair stole sooooooo much from Gino it ain’t even funny. Even more ironic, Gino teamed up with Tully Blanchard - a former original horseman - before teaming up with Chris Adams a few years later. Gino and Tully were heel dynamite heat-makers!! Gino did the suits in Ray Ban shades talking about Leer jets and the ladies before Flair come up with Stylin’ and Profilin’ - which Flair got from working with Dusty. This match was awesome. Lewis was a beast.
