Why do American audiences have to cheer at everything? Seriously, every time she says anything, they erupt into a manic, hysterical cheer - even Gillian looks a bit uncomfortable about it.

Because most of them are seriously dumb. I'm sorry, but why the hell did they cheer when she said she was doing 'A Doll's House' at the Donmar? 99.9% of them wouldn't know what 'A Doll's House' was, wouldn't know who Ibsen was, wouldn't know where the Donmar was, or even WHAT it was. Sounds like they're just pre-programmed to cheer mindlessly whenever a 'star' says 'something'.
