I despair at the hardware shortfalls done just to save a few pennies by the 'big names' so rely on expert reviews like yours. Thanks to you & your Team for producing these vids, pls keep up the good work. Regards, Ray.

    Really interesting to see all those B660 Reviews now. I Build my System with the Biostar B660GTN because it was the best looking mini-ITX for my pricepoint. As far as i can tell it´s great, except that i cant use my GPU without bending the backplate and pcie slot a little, so i just use the iGPU of my 12500 :) . As always great Video!

    A great, and truly honest review!!!! I've have a Gigabyte B760 DS3H, and i can confirm exactly all that was said on this review (looks like the B760 performs the same). This Gigabyte boards B660/B760, as not properly the best performance and stability, even after Bios Updates, testing and setting up the bios for better performance, i wont be able to get much from the board (from B760 DS3H at least, don't know if the B660 DS3H AX could differ and have a better performance and stability, but from the video review, it looks like they were kind the same). Ram to me, has no issues, perfect performance @3200mhz, was the few good points i've get from this board, along the heatsking on 1 side of the VRM and a SSD passive cooler. We all know that these are entry level Boards, but for a few more bucks difference at around the same price point, there are other brands with better and more stable options on the market, to get a minimal decent performance and stability. This mobo's could hold i3 CPU's well, but with i5's and higher, in my opinion, they doesn't work that well. Keep up your Good work, and honest reviews with no BS. We need more of this kind of stuff !!!

    Thanks for your work, it was very helpful. I don't typically upgrade BIOS, but when a new platform launches it's a good idea, as evident here. We built a PC with a friend with this mobo, and with the latest bios (F6a something) and power limits maxed, the 12400 performed better than what most people report online with R23. Indeed with the original BIOS, the score was TERRIBLE just like your 5746.

My question is can you elaborate on the updating bios part? Do I need to update bios before building pc? Will it hurt other components if I build the pc and boot it up and then try to update? Or can I just build the pc and boot it up(hopefully lol) and then update it before installing windows? Or is it after installing windows? Sorry for so many questions I just can't see an answer on the internet about updating a brand new mobo, everyone else talks about updating already-in-use mobos. Thank you for the review video btw!

  • @BuildPicker

    @BuildPicker

    Nope, you can build the PC and get it running just fine. It feels pretty normal to use but may underperform badly in benchmarks if you're on the F1/F2 bios. BIos revision is shown in the main BIOS page, top left. To update, get the BIOS image from the gigabyte website, and put it on a USB. Boot into BIOS with the USB in place, then use the BIOS Flash function. You can use Q-flash but it's not as easy, just use the tool in bios which guides you thought it. The nice thing about Q-flash is that if there is a problem in the update, you can re-flash it even if the PC isn't working! but that shouldn't happen.

    I bought Gigabyte B660M DS3H for i3 12100. I got it with F3 bios, so I've updatet it immedieatly to the latest one - F6b. It still underperformed slightly in Cinebench so I went to BIOS. Playing with power limits did't improve anything, since i3 consumes only 58W ant there is no bottleneck here (even on this board). I've finally disabled CPU power savings options in BIOS and CPU performance is adequate for i3 12100 since then (Tweaker -> Adv CPU Settings -> CPU EIST, Race To Halt, Energy Efficient Turbo: all to disabled). I would say there are two legimite, cost efective approaches to intel gen 12 topic: i3 + Gigabyte B660M DS3H (with updated BIOS) and i5 + MSI PRO B660M-A. We'll need to look at power demands of the 13400. I believe it's nominally 65W but since it's actually a Renamed i5-12600K it's likely to be closer to 150-160W, which is a bit above what I'd be happy doing with this board. That said at stock power profile it will be fine, just perhaps not performing optimally.

    @@shanenc1439 IF you're gaming, it will be fine with PL1 at 125W and PL2 at whatever since it's only a 56S time limit. What I'd avoid on this board is long term all core workloads like rendering, computation etc, things that will sit it at full or high power for extended periods. Otherwise you'll be fine. It will also be worthwhile ensuring plenty of case airflow to draw hot air away from the VRMS and allow them to dissipate heat.

    No need to disassemble at all. Just go to the Gigabyte product page and grab the new BIOS for the board. You can put it on USB and then go into BIOS and use the 'QFlash' application in BIOS to flash and update it. Follow Gigabytes instructions. This board has a Qflash function that works even without the system being bootable, so even if it goes wrong, you can rescue it using the Flash BIOS button on the motherboard. I would advise updating this Boards BIOS to address the issues I found with it.

    Can someone help me? I bought this motherboard and im having a problem with my boot times, compared to my other pc (with a inferior ssd) it almost doubled the boot time (11s vs 24s), even with ultra fast boot enabled. I was doing some research and it appears to be a “post time” problem with the board but i couldn’t find any settings in the bios to fix it My current pc has a samsung 970 EVO Plus 500gb and a b660m ds3h (i5) with f5 bios The other pc has a kingston NV1 250gb and a h410m s2h v3 (i3)

    Just ordered this mobo and cpu i5-12400f bundle wished I researched a bit before I bought it tho only searched the cpu and thought this mobo was good enough. Although it might be decent I saw a msi b660m-a with cpu bundle for +30bucks more I do regret it a little might use it for a few months so can sell it and buy a better one im a budget guy so thats why I didnt think about getting 30bucks more.

    Honestly, for a 12400 and general use,this board will be fine. I wouldn't bother replacing it if you have it already.Just be sure to get that updated BIOS on it (or check it's come with one).
