Just finished installing a 12400f on the gigabyte DS3H B660M (non AX). I run cinebench r23 on it and the scores came out the same with other 12400fs and despite the high temps ( high 80c range) there wasnt any vrm throttling or downclocking. Just make sure to flash the latest bios or it runs at least the F5 version. Mine came with the F6 and i flashed the F21 on it to take advantage of all the improvements overtime. Pretty decent mobo for a 12400.

One is TUF Gaming B660M-E (the one tested here) and the TUF Gaming B660M-Plus the superior one with PCIe 5.0, better VRM, etc. and a Wi-Fi version of the same. The M-E does not have a Wi-Fi version.

I currently have an ASUS H610M-A with an outdated BIOS, which still gives me undervolt usage on my 12600K BUT I bought a Gen4 SSD which doesn't run at full speed on my H610. When researching cards, I'm between this Asrock Z690 (155 usd), MSI Pro B660m A Wifi (132 usd) and ASUS H770 Plus D4 (155 usd). that many reports on the internet say that it comes factory set with voltage above normal and that the undervolt in it is kind of complicated. I'm wondering if I really leave my H610 just because of the SSD... And there's still the VRM issue... Even the Z690 PG4 using DrMOS I don't know to what extent it's a better VRM than the H770 Plus D4 or the MSI Pro B660m A.

I bought Gigabyte B660M DS3H for i3 12100. I got it with F3 bios, so I've updatet it immedieatly to the latest one - F6b. It still underperformed slightly in Cinebench so I went to BIOS. Playing with power limits did't improve anything, since i3 consumes only 58W ant there is no bottleneck here (even on this board). I've finally disabled CPU power savings options in BIOS and CPU performance is adequate for i3 12100 since then (Tweaker -> Adv CPU Settings -> CPU EIST, Race To Halt, Energy Efficient Turbo: all to disabled). I would say there are two legimite, cost efective approaches to intel gen 12 topic: i3 + Gigabyte B660M DS3H (with updated BIOS) and i5 + MSI PRO B660M-A. Thanks to Premium builds for proffessional advice.

They're kind of the same thing. The lowest one will kick in first. An i5-11600K and B560, so long as it's a decent B560, should be fine to leave at 255/255. It will not pull that much power, and if you have an AIO the heat won't be a concern. Basically, so long as MOtherbaord and cooler are up to task, you can leave power limits far in excess of what the CPU needs, and let the CPU handle itself. You only need to restrict power to protect the motherboard, or keep temepratures in check with a smaller cooler and long term work loads.

Aorus Master looks great at the price, Fantastic rear IO, very strong (overkill?) VRMs and good all round spec. Just don't pay more than $200 for any B660 board IMO, it kills the value of the i5 non K's if you do that. I'd pick it over the MSI Tomahawk Wifi given the same price. I haven't reviewed it and likely won't - it's just to expensive to get hold of every variant sadly.

Well, I just rebuilt my PC using a Mag B660M Mortar Wifi mobo, and it is FUCKING INSANE! Yes! CPU 13th gen i5 13600K, GPU GIGABYTE 3090TI, 64GBs of DDR5 5600 Ram (over clock with XMP 3.0), 850w plus 80 gold PSU, CoolerMaster MasterAir MA624 Dual Tower Air Cooler, Toshiba X300 8TB Performance & Gaming 3.5, Samsung 870 EVO 2TB 2.5, SAMSUNG 980 PRO SSD 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen 4 that I cloned my windows 10 pro OS to, as it is my boot drive now. I even figured out how to over clock and got my 3090TI's bench at Userbenchmark to 319% - My Gaming is at 333%, my desktop at 122% and my work station is 388%, and this is with 98% cpu background during bench testing. I've never done any of this before, really (to this extent), but it's amazing what you can pull off with a little (careful) research and paying close attention. There's really no rocket science in building a PC, that's for sure. My CPU never been over 70 degrees c, and my GPU stays at around 67 c. After I got everything where it needed to be, I set a cap on my frame frate to go only as high as my fastest monitor, which is 144Hz. I mainly play on my LG 65 CX monitor that is at 120Hz. There isn't any game that I tried that does maintaina steady 120 fps. I mean, it doesn't drop below that at all. Only issue I had was that I got the mobo, and though it do support 13th gen Intel CPUs, it didn't right out of the box. I installed a 13th gen chip in its LGA1700 slot, then at the end of it all, it turned on, but didn't boot. I just put two and two together after about 10 minutes of trying to figure out what was wrong. Noticed the red blinking light on the mobo, and learned that it was a CPU issue - as it clearly said under the flashing red light - 'cpu'. I knew the mobo I bought was a 12th gen with a LGA 1700 socket, so I figured the mobo needed just needed a BIOS update, or something. So, I bought a 12th gen chip from Amazon, booted up my PC with it (as the 12th gen chip worked as I expected it would), updated the mobo, installed my 13th gen chip, sent the 12th gen chip back to Amazon for a refund - Now, all of the amazing things that I am about to do with this incredibly fast, insanely powerful PC. I have done even more research and see that the Western Digital Black SN850 2TB M.2 is actually considerably faster than the Samsung 870, so I have ordered one that will be here on Friday that I will clone my boot drive onto, so that my PC can be even faster, and yeah, I'll install it onto the CPU M.2 slot, and not the chipset one. Some people don't know the difference, but I research everything. All this being said - The Mag B660M Mortar Wifi motherboard is Super Solid.

The M-K is cut back a fair amount: It only has 2 RAM Slots, 1 Full length PCIe slot. THe VRM is slightly different, looks similar to the A but I can't see if it's better or worse. It has less heatskingkin with some of the VRM components bare at the top of the board. It has no high speed USB on the rear, and no USB 3.2 Gen 2 x2 header internally. Since I know cheap/bad boards can limit the i5, I'm cautious of anything I haven't tested. The PRIME K is likely fine for gaming and light use, but I wouldn't use it for anything demanding even with an i5.

However is say it's at the limit of what I'd run on that VRM config, and if you're not running a higher power limit you're not getting the full potential of the 13600K. Consider the new i5-13500 which is more power efficient but gets most of the benefit, especially if you're not overclocking.

Asrock is pretty much in the same situation with anything other than their Taichi lines. it's interesting to see the Prime board be in the same arena as the Tomahawk. Other than the AMD x470, ASUS Prime boards have felt like a hot mess recently. Due to the fact that I ran into the same issues many other actual endusers are in that pretty much all of these B660 are having serious real world stability and performance issues with the XMP feature. Which they keep trying, and failing, to push out bios updates that offers a clean fix.

MSI PRO B660M-A DDR4 and ASUS PRIME B660M-A. Started of with Crucial Ballistix DDR4 3600, but had to scratch that as beyond the false box specs claims it apparently turned out that the b660 motherboards can't run any ram 3600mhz or higher in gear 1 due to intel locking the voltage (to MSI somewhat credit they at least state as such if you dig up their beta bios notes on the forum. Only the more expensive Mortar and Tomahawk boards are labeled as improving non-K CPU DDR4 ram compatibility). Anything above 3200mhz in xmp mode just crashes the pc. As of right now all the beta build "fixes" for this do is just forces that incompatibility into gear 2, and which just achieves that additional stability at the cost of performance (fwiw MSI also makes official note: Intel had confirmed VCCSA lock on non-K CPU is according to the Intel specification. Until further notice from Intel, BIOS update cannot unlock the limitation). Wasn't looking to downgrade my ram back to my old Corsair Vengeance 3200 with the swap to a B660 in this machine, but prior to the returns using that + XMP off was basically my mandatory troubleshoot workaround if i wanted to avoid any BSoD in my multi hour MMO gaming sessions. Was easy enough from there to search around and find similar feedback from outside the benchmark review only crowd starting to weigh in on their own actual everyday gaming experiences.

I would, because it's clearly got some pretty major microcode adjustments in it! The board has 'Q-Flash' so it's impossible to break it by flashing the bios even if it corrupts. you can re-flash it from a USB stick. That said, if you can run a few benchmarks and verify that the CPU is performing normally, and the BIOS flash process worries you, you can leave it alone .
