Gibson 1942 J-45 Legend with L.R. Baggs Lyric pickup

Музыка

Plugged straight into my Zoom H4n. No eq or effects. Pickup is offset and running parallel to the bass-side X-brace for more bass and better balance. Presence control is turned down to around 60%. For fingerpicking only, i might have it up brighter, but then it's too bright for strumming (maybe not in a band mix?).

    Just saw this. Thanks so much :) I really like it for solo stuff or acoustic duo. I'm using it this sunday in church with a full band, so we'll see how it sounds then at full tilt.

    thats the issue I have with this set up ,finding the balance , because its a pain on stage , then feed back is unbelievable because you cant use a sound hole plug ,, the only guitar I have ever been happy to plug in have been Taylor and Australian Maton guitars ,they just kill anything through a Pa ,here's hoping ,,I'll try passive K&K mini

    Yeah, I wouldn't use this pickup in a band situation without a notch filter. With one, it can handle some higher volumes, but without it there would be feedback for sure.

    Man, this sounds so much better than the stock LR Baggs piëzo pu in my J-45. Have you played it in a band situation, where a bit of extra volume was needed? Because I want to know if you have any feedback problems in that case. Thanks for the demo!

    Thanks so much! Yes, I have played it in a band situation a few times. Only had feedback issue one time, but performing volume was like a bit louder than the sound check volume. Also, I use the LR Baggs venue di which has a notch filter in it. That time it was feeding back, I had turned the notch filter off cuz it sounded so much better with it off. Live and learn, I suppose.

    I can’t decide between the K & K pure, mini or the bags lyric. Anybody have any advice?

  • @SteveWoodyMusic

    I'd say it really depends on your context. The lyric is voiced for a band context (more mid-humped), but can easily feedback any volume. Sounds great, though. K&K is more generic sounding, but is feedback resistant and full. I'd go for the Anthem if I didn't have the slotted bridge.

    I'd love hear how you came up with that pickup position. Trial and error? I definitely need more bass from mine, too...

    there are some legend version but this one is most cheapest legend version by guitar store demand. if you play original legend version like 2006 year, very different sound. used best quality wood like brazilian rosewood fignerboard, bridge and old growth mahogany back and side. mine is totally different sounds with yours.

    sounds like we are both very happy with our guitars, which is the best anyone can hope for :-) also, in this video you are only hearing the guitar through the pickup, not the actual sound of the guitar, just keep that in mind.

    do you need a pre- amp with a lyric?

  • @SteveWoodyMusic

    @SteveWoodyMusic

    This one has a pre-amp built in. It uses a 9v battery inside the guitar. Live I also use an L.R. Baggs Venue DI for EQ and tuner/boost/silence options.

    @@deborahmcalister3936 well, not really. I did some tests this past week. Running straight in to the board there is plenty of signal. Using the Venue DI with all controls at noon (not adding or subtracting), the sound is identical, just a little louder. Honestly, the Venue can make the signal pretty hot. That being said, having the EQ on the Venue is nice.
