Gibson 2020 | 50's J-45 Original
Музыка
Hello! In this video we are checking out the new 50's J-45 Original Acoustic from the Gibson 2020 line up! In the video I am using a Shure SM57 as a close mic, and an MXL R144 as a room mic about 6 feet away from the guitar. I also play with a Blue Chip TAD1R 60 pick. I hope you enjoy!

How well do the tuners hold their tune? I'm fixing to get one, but debating on replacing the tuners cause I've never been a fan of the vintage button tuners.
I love your choice of tunes and how you played them. The J-45 is my dream guitar. Some day when I save the cash, I’ll buy one, especially now that Gibson has a new business model, and quality control has improved.

I applied for a GC gear card years ago. With the card, I now have LP., U.S. Strat, and last year added my J-45. I took advantage of their 48 month financing that they offer a few times a year. The J-45 is like $52 per month. Next comes 000-28. I've been paying the balance down faster than required. Best of luck.
The best review of this guitar hands down.
Wow I never thought the day would come glad Gibson have made a j45 without the grovers and went back to the original gold logo , Cream tuning knobs because I would have gotten a standard before dropping 4-5k for a true vinTage with (thermally baked top) to replicate age. I just wanted a brand new Gibson j45 as it would have been in the 50s N’ here it is.

I love the look of the Gibsons. I think all their acoustics should have the original script logo. Only little stupid thing id change.
I think the plugged in sound is incredible! It is definitely better than any UST pickup.
Purchased my j-45 a month ago. I have a d-35 and hd-28 martin but wanted a mahogany so I tried the d-18 and the j-45. By far the j-45 played and sounded better to me. Plus the action on the j-45 was perfect for me and I would have had to pay more to have the martin set up. A good match for my martins.

I did the same thing Jim. I have a HD 28 and wanted a mahogany, but unfortunately never demoed a D18. I’m struggling to come to terms with some minor cosmetic issues (I can still return it) and the setup was terrible on the one I received . I bought and fit a new compensated bone saddle and a compensated Tusq saddle. After two weekend I have it setup but the intonation could still use some work and bone nut is all chipped and stained. I almost want replace it! Or send it back and get a j45 standard!

@@sixpicker82 go play the j-45. It's totally different with the shorter scale length. My most vocal guitar is the d-35 but it's the oldest being an 05.

Just picked up an Ebony J45 50s and it is amazing. I am fortunate to also have a Martin HD-28 and they really compliment each other.

tim's homestead Same here Tim! I’ve never really been a fan of a DI Acoustic. I’ll probably end up swapping out the current pickup for the LR Baggs Anthem. Glad you are doing good!
I bought one yesterday and was surprised to find it has scalloped bracing!
When you were playing that guitar, I could almost smell the prairie - AWESOMNESS!!! Now, what did you use to record your voice at the beginning of this video, pretty please?

Canaan, Thanks for the review the 50's J-45 Original. It's my understanding that the 50's J-50 Original shares the same build specs with the 45 except the finish it that correct?

sacdubro I believe that is correct! I was pleased to see this guitar was actually a bit cheaper than the J-45 standard. This guitar is what I have been waiting for Gibson to release for years!

Most differences are cosmetic but the necks are not the same. This is a different taper, making it feel chunkier to play.
Sounded great plugged in. What amp were you using and did you have any pedals (pre-amp or DI)?
Great play!! Don,t u think this all solid model take serious advantage over j45 standar? I have doubts about choosing this gibson vintage model or eastman 10ss one..

Carolo Buj I believe the J-45 Standard has all solid wood construction just like this J-45 50’s original.
I wish they had the banner on headstock like the " true vintage" model had.
your voice reminds me a lot of Matt Heafys haha
Nice playing, in your opinion how does this compare to the standard model?
@canaanlawrence7987

Jess Jones Tone wise, I’d say it’s almost identical. I mean every J-45 is gonna sound a little different. It’s made up of all the same woods and techniques as the Standard. For me personally it was all about the vintage appointments, like the tuners and pickguard etc. Thanks for watching!

Canaan Lawrence thank you for the reply and info. Last question and I’ll leave you alone. Is the neck chunkier than the standard?
@canaanlawrence7987

Jess Jones I would say yes. It definitely fills out the hand more than a lot of other Gibson acoustics but it’s really not too big.

Canaan Lawrence thank you my friend, I’m trying to decide what to aim for. I’ve got an Eastman E10ss that sounds good, but is too beefy in the neck.

Kindly Compare to J45 standard, which one you prefer ? I am looking for J45 standard , but is out of stocks , 50’s J45 original is in stocks . Don’t know how to make a choice ...thanks

Winds Wen Of course each individual acoustic guitar will sound a little different, but the sound between the J-45 standard and this 50’s model should be almost identical. The only real difference between them is the aesthetics! The only reason I chose this 50’s model over the standard is for the vintage looks and other appointments. I hope that helps!

Winds Wen the neck is a round 50’s shape as well. More like the Hummingbird neck vs the Slim Taper found on the Gibson standard J45. If you like and electric neck then the slim taper is great. If you like a larger neck then you might want a different profile and the 50’s would be a great choice
@rosslynemrys5829

The neck on the 50's is a c shape which is totally comfortable for me, I've tried them both out and prefer the looks of the 50's j45.
It has bone nut and saddle
Can you buy one without the pickup? I don't want or need a pickup.

You have to buy the 60s J-45 if you don't need the pickup. Those series have adjustable saddle also instead of fixed saddle.

I like how you didn't talk much and just went to playing it 👍. 90 percent of people just go on and on talking about bullshit.
Gibson quality control is just awful. I really want a j45 but I’m too scared to take the risk. Plus I’m more than happy with my Martin HD-28 I have now.
Nice review. Thanks. Sounds great on the mics, but as always, awful through DI. Why do Gibson use such awful pick ups...?

@b1j

I would have to agree with Rhythm Shack. I can see using the DI as a color accent inside a mix, but solo? no. Maybe on stage with an electric, bass, and drums -- playing rhythm only. So, not useless, but I'm going to reserve my pickup use for special parts.
Bruv you need to put some oil on that fretboard.
Great sounding guitar, until it was plugged in.. Fuck me those under saddle pickups destroy the guitar. I am contemplating getting this model, or the Original J-50, and the first thing I do will be rip that shitty UST out and replace it with a LR Baggs Lyric, or a K&K.

@@canaanlawrence7987 My suggestion would be to use the LR Baggs Lyric. Such a gorgeous natural sound, and does not interfere with the acoustic sound. It responds best when routed through a pre-amp, as it is a tiny condenser mic, but even without a pre-amp, and plugged in directly, you can still adequate volume by turning your amp up. I like LR Baggs wearable pre-amps and use the two channel pre-amp, called Mix-pro.
