Giant Propel Real Weight Comparison: But Which Is The Lightest?

Спорт

Let's get weighing! Can you guess which bike weighs the least?
We take the 5 bikes from our shop floor with SRAM rival groupsets and weigh them all. We wanted to see how the new Giant Propel Advanced Pro compared to the Giant Propel Advanced, and the Orbea Orca Aero, as well as a Colnago V3 and a Bianchi Infinito XE.
Do you think weight is a big factor when choosing a bike? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

This video is great thankyou and the Giant Propel would be on top of my list if looking for a new bike. For comparison my 2018 Cannondale Synapse (rim brakes) in what I call ready to race trim, bottle cages, pedals, even an Italian bicycle mirror weights in at 7.84kg, my TCR Advanced Disc Pro weights in at 7.97kg with the same specs and groupset (Ultegra Mechanical). Both bikes have aluminum wheels and plenty of bar tape and padding for comfort.

I think it's incredibly shady for giant to not list weights for their bikes on their website saying bike weights can differ. That's a load of bull. You're selling a prebuilt combo of parts, to say a build in a M/L size will be ___ kg wouldn't hurt anyone.

As consumers, we'd definitely like to see that. The manufacturers are usually keen on giving the consumers what they want, but I'm betting there have been past market consequences for claimed weights. In particular, there's a huge temptation to exaggerate (lie) and that generates controversy.

Interesting. I've only done a quick scan, so may have missed it, but didn't see weight mentioned on Specialized, Cannondale, Orbea, Cervelo, Bianchi, Pinarello websites (stopped looking after that). I can see it on Trek's, but then there is a disclaimer that says "Bike and frame weights are based on pre-production painted frames at time of publication. Weights may vary in final production." i.e. don't rely on this quoted weight being the actual weight of the bike you get. Giant are the only ones that give a reason for not putting the weight, the others seem to simply ignore it altogether. I understand that for some people the weight is a key feature, which is why we did this video and will do more like it, but I think it is harsh to single Giant out for not listing the bikes weight as they are not alone. Thanks for the comment, and next time I'm visiting Giant I'll try ask about the lack of weight info on the site and see if I can find out more.

Do the tubeless tires have sealant in them? I just bought a TCR PRO 0 sive ML sent the left crank arm to 4iiii for a power meter, plus sealant in the tires. With cages & pedals plus garmin mounts 7.83KG

Spending 4k + on a 9kg bike is crazy to me. If I imagine I would have to loose 2 more kg of body weight that would cost me quite some power.

My 2018 , cheapest carbon frame, Canyon Endurace Disc is 8,6 kg with bottle cages, small lights and the wahoo bolt out front mount on. It’s Shimano 105 and also has aluminum Mavic 32 wheels that’s quite heavy. Guess I could take that bike down one kilo by spending 1500 upgrading wheels to lightweight carbon, handlebars carbon. Why are modern bikes so heavy???

Mainly because the Rival is damn heavy and then disc brakes in general add also weight. I can only speak for the Giant Advanced. Swapping out wheels, tires and cranks took me down to around 7.4 kg (no padels).
