Giant bear known as 'Hank the Tank' burglarizes another Lake Tahoe home; 40 break-ins since July

Hank the Tank, a big bear notorious for wreaking havoc in residential neighborhoods, has hit another home in Lake Tahoe.     He’s never hurt anyone in all these years. I feel these people are being over dramatic. You’ve invaded his territory, you are a guest on his land. People should have respect and appreciation for wildlife. Granted Hank needs to eat less and sure he didn’t get big on his own😉

    Those people just moved there last year to escape the crime from the Bay area. All the new transplants have been feeding the animals bears coyotes you name it. they can't help themselves.

    If you don't like the bear, LEAVE! You came into HIS area and took over his home...NOT the other way around! Been around black bears for YEARS...you leave him alone, use caution, you'll scare him more than he'll scare you...JUST DON'T FEED HIM! (this includes NOT being lazy, and leaving trash cans open, etc.)

    Love how we over develop with housing and build on an animal's habitat and first instinct is to kill an animal that's just trying to survive since we as humans have disrupted their ecosystem and food supply.....

    Please don't kill Hank, he's just doing what any wild animal does. He's looking for food, and remember you're on their territory, your houses, businesses, hospitals and all were built on their hunting and gathering grounds. Don't force them out or slaughter them. We've had enough of that already. It destroys populations, while you destroy their ecosystems.

    @@michaelmelling9333 if there's a second option that doesn't result in it dying then yes, relocate, it's a lot better than it dying for humans stupidity. Same thing happened to us natives, we were forced out or exterminated and you're doing the exact same thing to the animals. This is how species go extinct or their numbers diminish to 10× less than its supposed to be. So yeah relocate instead of killing. To be fair those businesses and homes need to be relocated.

    Why does he keep breaking into that same house. Sounds like somebody’s feeding or has fed him there. You don’t have to feed bears to get mauled by a bear you just have to have a neighbor that feeds bears. I live next to a large black bear sanctuary. I keep my property bear proofed and I’ll pop a bear with a rubber slug if he gives me half a chance. The best thing you can do for a bear is teach it to avoid humans.

    There’s multiple sanctuaries ready and willing to take him but it’s up to the state wildlife department. With all the blowback on possibly euthanizing him, I suspect wildlife officials will give the permit to take him to a sanctuary. The Bear League said they’ve been setting traps for Hank but locals are sabotaging the traps.

    @@honeybadger4883 I worked there about 11 years ago in a different neighborhood on the Nevada side. Wasidana is not lying. When they were trying to catch Fred a 400 lb black bear residents were definitely breaking the traps. I caught one doing it.

    @@honeybadger4883 all you have to do is hit the spring arm that shuts the door with a stick and it closes the traps. The one I caught was in Glenbrook. He told me it was because he thought trapping and relocating was inhumane

You talk all about it’s their territory and there choice to live there, while you are in your apartment in the city, or in a suburb that does not have bears mugging your property for food, and don’t be so clever as to disturb them.     It isn't the bear's fault; nor are they likely to hurt any adult. Concern for children should mean you supervise them at all times. There are far more equally dangerous predators out there besides bears. And those folks complaining couldn't have bought their place without being told about the bears. Somehow, its seams, they lost their common sense. I'd vote for bears over humans any day!!!

    You can see where this is going! Some masculinity-challenged Bay Area urban dad transplant decked out in his new L.L Bean "sportsman" gear is going to plug Hank (with 16 shots claiming the bear was threatening his kids) one evening after his kids had fed the bear all month, with his new Xmas .303 he'd never shot before, and then taking a photo of himself triumphantly standing on the bear's skull to send to his Pebble Beach golf buddies with a sign, "I slayed this monster!"
