Review of the 100 cards in the in a Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph Commander deck. This version focuses on the Spellslinger style using Cantrips (Spells that replace themselves with card Draw). Power level of 7. This deck contains 1 infinite combo. This is a general damage over time deck and can run in the 6 or 7 power level with a few changes to the deck. The deck performs well shooting down low toughness commanders your opponent’s try to keep in play. It puts a clock on the table for a response or the damage every turn cycle will eventually catch up to your opponents.
Power Scale (1-10):
1-8 is casual commander.
7 and 8's can have infinite combos to go for the win. Usually includes the best tutors for the ways to achieve the deck’s win conditions. May go for a win around turns 5-7. You will see powerful (and Expensive) cards. Still tries to limit the number of Salty cards (EDHrec.com Salt score).
6: Not the best tutors to achieve your win cons, budget options instead of the technically better cards. may include lands that enter tapped. Seeks to build up to a winning state over time and takes time to develop. Usually does not win before turn 7.
3-5 includes pre-cons and slightly upgraded preconstructed decks. A level 5 can be a strong precon like the Warhammer 40k ones or a deck that is running without the best tutors and interaction, and can have lands that enter play tapped.
1-3 Decks with theme such as People sitting on chairs or wearing hats. More about thematics and the fun of the lore and synergy of the deck than winning. May be just cards that you want to play but does not have efficient deck structure and win conditions.
9-10's are cEDH decks that have a different play style than casual decks and are geared towards that format. They usually include: a direct win line that can go off at any moment, threats in the first few turns to win the game, much higher interaction spells than casual, Generally much lower mana cost curves (1-4), only the best cards to go for the win, possibly stacks pieces and cards that would be too salty to play in casual commander.

Tandem lookout is a mandatory add. It's a curiosity effect which can ping-pong onto another creature, so if your commander dies you can still get some card draw switching to kessig if it enters the battlefield

Tandem Lookout also opens up a number of avenues for infinite combos if you would like to go that route.

Great video! What would i have to upgrade to increase the deck power level? Just fast mana? Is that version better than the 1/1 tokens one?

I like the Spellslinger version because you can win on a single big turn and out of nowhere. The 1/1 version you would need to either have another card that enables haste, or a card like impact tremors on the board which sends warning signals to the opponents when cast. To be higher power you may want to focus on more infinite combos for damage, card draw, and mana and tutors to get there. If you had isochron scepter, dramatic reversal, mana rocks, and grapeshot that is a storm win right there. Some of the combos in Izzet Blue/Red are more conducive to Niv-Mizzet as commander because you can combo with a single card like curiosity. I like playing at this power level with Ghyrson because it makes it feel more in tune with the theme of the commander, I haven't brewed too much on increasing the power level, but good luck with any upgrades you may have!

How do you feel about the ratio of pingers (both Timmy’s and cast triggers) to spells? I’ve been brewing a Ghyrson deck and was leaning more towards the spellslinger side of things but when I’m testing it I always feel like I either have too many or not enough spells in the deck. How did having 30 spells perform in this deck?

Going heavier on the spellslinger side made the deck more consistent and less susceptible to board wipes. I usually only need 2 creatures in play that ping opps for 1 damage on a spell to start whittling down life totals. Hold back 1-2 other guys in case their is interaction or board wipe and you can rebuild quickly. Then you can set up for 1 turn to finish off opponents with some of the better spells or recursion of spells in your graveyard. Since a lot of the spells are cantrips they can also draw into your other Pingers if you are short. Timmy's are fun, but too slow - the more you have the less competitive the deck seems.

I like your detailed review - unfortunately the moxfield deck did not match the video review. 😢

Worth considering that you can break the Niv loop by targeting a creature with the ping.

I wanted to make this guy but 1 power tokens or goblins. Use the blue to draw and get to them tokens/goblins.

Should be a fun direction as well. Cards like Krenko work well with creating the token army. Just need to have recursion or protection from board wipes!

have u thought about a route of using cards like impact trremors with the cards that generate red devil tokens, the ones when they die they deal 1 damage to anything?

I do like the tremor type damage dealing. When making this deck I went the spellslinger route because it did not work well when going both spellslinger/creature maker. If you make the deck for the creature damage the little devils do a great job of pinging for extra damage, and I originally had some of those devil maker cards in the sideboard. Add in a sac outlet like Phyrexian Altar and it could get pretty crazy. Using a goblins strat and using Krenko with impact Tremors would be pretty fun too!
