Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a 2021 American supernatural comedy film directed by Jason Reitman, who co-wrote the screenplay with Gil Kenan. The film stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Paul Rudd, while Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts reprise their roles from the original films. It is the sequel to Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989) (both directed by Reitman's father Ivan, who serves as producer) and the fourth film overall in the Ghostbusters franchise. Set thirty years after the events of the second film, a single mother and her two children move to a small town in Oklahoma, where they discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and their grandfather's secret legacy.

Doug you’re an idiot sometimes last time I checked no this movie does not Retcon Ghostbusters two because that means they have to Retcon the video game which by the way is still canon look the movie up on Wikipedia it says the movie is a sequel to 1984 Ghostbusters and 1989 Ghostbusters two

The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. I’m genuinely curious to know how one would rank Ghostbusters the Video Game, considering it was written by Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis and was intended as a substitute for the 3rd movie which was never made before the 2016 reboot happened. I wonder if Afterlife will have any significant nods to the game since it was one of the last GB related things that Ramis wrote and starred in before he died.

Jason Reitman also flat out confirmed that Ghostbusters 2 was canon in an interview. The references in this movie to it were vague, as they really didn’t need to mention the events of 1989. It’s a movie about Gozer, not Vigo. Still wish they would’ve referenced it at least a little more though. Like maybe one of Egon’s jumpsuits had the no ghost 2 logo on it instead of the classic one. However the dancing slime toaster, and even some pink slime does appear in the movie as Easter eggs

**no spoilers, all things about to be said can be seen in trailers and officially released media** They didn't completely drop GB2 from cannon in the new movie, in Egon's property there are some artifacts from the 2nd movie, along with Ray Stantz owning the book store which was also introduced in the 2nd film. As far as a potential sequel goes, they can probably pull from the comics and cartoons that have expansive libraries of ghosts that they can use.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: this Ghostbusters movie wasn't one that I wished for, but it was one I didn't know I needed. The final 10-20 minutes of the climax was heavily emotional, I didn't expect a Ghostbusters movie to make me cry but lo and behold, it happened. It wasn't perfect, but it was a great tribute. I would lie if I said I didn't go into fangirl mode when the action with Ecto-1 happened and familiar music started playing. At one point I was even sitting on the edge of my chair in the cinema. I really enjoyed the nostalgic music, I didn't even notice it happened "too much" in the movie where I'd go "did they even make any new score music?" so I guess it didn't bother me personally. I saw a little Egon in Phoebe, she did indeed carry the whole movie. Podcast was good too, I saw a tiny bit of Ray in him. I wish the two other kids (I forgot both their names sadly) were better written or developed, but they're alright. In the end, Ghostbusters: Afterlife was emotional and made justice to the franchise that we love and I left the cinema with a satisfying smile on my face. Also, I do love how this movie retconned the 2016 reboot. XD (I don't think it retconned Ghostbusters 2.)

  • @matthewlavagna6080

Ghostbusters Afterlife doesn't retcon Ghostbusters 2. It just doesn't reference the events of Ghostbusters 2. It doesn't really need to because it's story is specifically linked to the original.

To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? He that has ears to hear, let him hear. Are you saved? Where will you go when you die? Heaven or hell? The Gospel, which means the Good News is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. Although God's creation was created perfect, having no death, sickness and disease, the creation became corrupted through Adam and Eve in them disobeying God. In this rebellion the creation became fallen through the curse of sin and mankind became separated from God. This world is fallen, but God offers reconciliation to him through his provision at the cross. Ultimately God will restore his creation to perfection when he returns but those that who reject his offer of redemption will remain condemned by their sins and go to hell. John 1:1,14 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. [14] And THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us, 1 John 3:8 KJV He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Isaiah 9:6 KJV For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. John 1:10 KJV He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and THE WORLD KNEW HIM NOT.

@@orboakin8074 Roman Catholicism preaches a false gospel my friend. The Bible says that people are saved by faith without works. The Roman Catholic religion says that you are saved by faith AND WORKS. This is a false gospel. In the Roman Catholic catechism CANON 9 it states that : “If any one saith, that by faith alone the impious is justified; in such wise as to mean, that nothing else is required to co-operate in order to the obtaining the grace of Justification and that it is not in any way necessary, that he be prepared and disposed by the movement of his own will; let him be anathema.” Not only is the Roman Catholic church here denying the Gospel of the Bible, they are cursing those who accept the true Biblical Gospel. The Bible is clear, a person is saved by faith alone, not of works. Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] NOT OF WORKS, lest any man should boast. Romans 4:4-8 KJV Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. [5] But to him that WORKETH NOT, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. [6] Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, [7] Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. [8] Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. Romans 3:20-24 KJV Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall be NO FLESH JUSTIFIED in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. [21] But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; [22] Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: [23] For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; [24] Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Galatians 2:16 KJV Knowing that a man IS NOT JUSTIFIED BY THE WORKS OF THE LAW, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

He is lying cause he got to prescreen so he can't sht on it. I was so looking forward to it and its boring and recycled and stupid. The ghostbusters are in it less than their cameo time in the 2016. It really sucked bro. I think the critic would have torn this apart if it didn't conflict with getting prescreenings.

You know if the climax can get Doug crying, it's a keeper! I cried both screenings (one for an early employee screening on Wednesday night, and the next for my brother) because of how touching the ending was to Harold Ramis, and I haven't fully seen the original Ghostbusters! Jason Reitman nailed it!

Saw the movie tonight and was blown away. In absolute tears with the last 10 minutes and cheered through the (2) after credit scenes (stay seated, trust me) But Doug, the second film wasn't wiped? It was referenced everywhere. Especially to the fans who look close during end-credit scene #1. But Ray's bookstore is only an element from the second. Don't say with such conviction what isn't true, because the video game and the animated show are referenced as well.

I was also at last night’s screening. Though I enjoyed the movie, the fan service moments tended to pull me out of the film quite often, and so rather than being swept along for the ride I felt more like I was being taken on a guided tour through the beats of the first film. That said, the special effects were amazing and the cast did a stellar job.

With how you've described the film, especially mentioning how emotionally impactful it was and there were tears shed, and the fact it focuses on Egon's family, I'm gonna hazard a guess that by the end of this film a ghostly Harold Ramis as Egon shows up to perhaps nod or salute them showing his approval, thus a passing of the torch. Just a guess, but I based on your comments that's the vibe I'm getting.

Ray Stantz answered the red phone, in Ray's Occult Books store, which was only in GB-2.
