Too obvious.

This does have some interesting ideas. I particularly like the idea of having Patty be the main character, not regulated to the Winston of the group just because she's black.

This gives me ideas! So long as we're dreaming.... Personally, I would forego Samhain and the Halloween motif in favor of a less distinct but scarier non-descript Lovecraftian entity. Something more along the lines of cosmic horror, an eldritch abomination amusingly referred to as "Vince". Also, the scene at the candy factory seems like a missed opportunity for a Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. Perhaps Ivo used the company and its mascot as a way of imprinting a particular form into the public consciousness to facilitate its entry into our reality, maybe have it emerge from the factory and make its way to the Empire State Building, where it absorbs the power from the ley lines to lurch from its creamy form into the aforementioned Lovecraftian monster like a butterfly coming out of a coccoon. And if we're going to have a kid in the climax (and I do kind of like the idea of one of the Ghostbusters being a single mother who earns her child's respect by rising to the occasion), I would do something a little less predictable than the old "fake betrayal" routine. Like, the kid is being used as a human shield and they can't blast him because proton beams would be lethal and Erin tearfully affirms that she can't hurt her son. So Patty just breaks the tension, runs up, grabs the boy, and straight up beats the crap out of him. Yeah, it's awful, and his mother's upset, but it works. Ivo can't overpower anyone in a kid's body and we get the physical comedy of a grown woman repeatedly punching a possessed pre-teen. "The power of Patty compels you!!" Ivo scrambles out of his body and Patty whips out the trap and catches him, the Ghostbusters blast Vince, and the kid shows up later with bruises and bandages, happy because he now has a fantastic story to tell the other kids. Also, and this is crucial,, Holtzmann has an actual personality beyond "wacky". It's very vaguely hinted throughout the movie that she has past experience with the Cult, and her eccentricity is owed to her time with them. She knows more than she lets on and is secretly terrified of what's coming. She's spent years laying low and playing the fool due to fear of the conspiracy and its powers while developing technology specifically designed to counter the supernatural threat, and while she's glad at their initial success, she knows the worst is yet to come. All they've faced so far have been attack dogs. So later, maybe in a post-credit scene, Holtzmann takes a break as the ladies work on building a more permanent storage facility. Her humor seems to fade as she looks down on the trap with Ivo's spirit. We hear him speaking, and it's unclear whether he's really talking to her or she's imagining him mocking her, ruminating over how he hasn't really lost, because she knows the cult still exists, she thinks the world is doomed, and though they bested Vinz Clortho soon the Ghostbusters will have to reckon with the other minion of their dark god.... Cue the theme song. The real one.

Not bad, I do think that we don't really need the Stay Puff Marshmallow man to come back. We can still have him be on the logo of the factory but as a side cameo and nothing else, just so the movie does feel like it's shoving the original down the audiences throats

Step 0: Don't put all of the worst parts of the movie in the trailer and make it 2000x more divisive.

I appreciate a good sequel bait joke, so having the ghost trap blink menacingly right before one of the GB's walks up and sticks a cable to a secondary power source, resulting in angry cursing and moaning from within, would be a welcome novelty.

This is an interesting pitch. I love the idea of bringing Samhain into it. He was always my favorite villain in the cartoon. The urban legend ghost idea was actually done already in the book Ghostbusters: The Return, but I'm sure you've probably never read it since it's been out of print for a while. Ultimately, I feel the only thing that could have possibly made the reboot better (which would probably be impossible anyway) was making it canon with the originals. There was really no reason to start from scratch. Thankfully Jason Reitman won't be making that mistake with Ghostbusters Afterlife.

Awesome idea.

Personally, I like the passing of the torch idea that was thrown around when a new Ghostbusters film was first mentioned. I'd make it that we see the remaining members of the original team, their old, tired, and Ray brings up that he thinks it's time to hangup their proton paks, especially with Egon being killed during a job. Winston agrees, however Peter is the one that is most resilient, and he walks off in a huff, going back to the university where it all began, being nostalgic while coming to grips with the fact that he's just too old to keep this up. While there, he literally has a young girl run into him (this would be one of the main 4 female leads), apologise, and run off. He is about to walk away, until he notices the Ghostbusters keychain hanging off of her bag. Curious, he follows the girl, and happens to catch a glimpse of her in what used to be his "lab" before he was kicked out of university, and it is literally filled with anything related to the Ghostbusters. He walks in, forgetting that it's not his space, she gets scared at the man she just ran in to following her, until she realises who it was she ran in to. She starts to fan girl, while Peter is just feeling flattered (and slightly creeped out) by how much of a fan she is (as she has newspaper clippings, plushies, lunch boxes, pins, games, clothing, any Ghostbusters merchandise you can think of, she has it) until he snaps out of it when she says he is her idol, and wants to be a Ghostbuster like him. Peter sees this as maybe a sign, and he brings up, rather bluntly, that he's retiring. This has her shocked, they get in to a conversation about why he things it's time to call it quits, he then says "If only there was someone who could be my replacement, but I've search all over (a flat out lie), but there just isn't anyone suitable", and this gets her saying that she's do it, she'll be a ghost buster, and this is said as her 3 friends walk in to the room. Upon hearing her say this, they look at Peter, ask who he is, tell her that she doesn't know what she's talking about, that she needs to grow up, and just come back to reality, that ghosts aren't real, and that the Ghostbusters are just very successful con men. Peter archs up (comically) at the accusation, and says that fine, he's heading back to HQ, and just going to forget the whole thing. The young girl follows him, and her friends follow her. We then cut back to HQ, Peter walking in, followed by 4 young women, and we have the secretary's son (played by Hemsworth, but more serious this time) behind the desk. He doesn't bat an eye, and just says "I see you enjoyed your walk", completely straight faced, and without breaking focus on what he's doing, much like his mother would do, sort of bored, but still observant. He then heads to the back where they have a recently captured ghost in a trap still, all while Winston and Ray look on, and as Peter is about to hit the release button, Winston shouts out "What are you doing? No, Peter Stop!", but it's too late. The ghost is released, the young girl is taken aback, her friends are freaking out, having never seen a ghost so close, and just comedicly screaming. After a second though, the girl reacts, having seen one of the proton paks on the floor nearby earlier, and grabs it, turns it on, aims, and fired. She then screams at her friends to grab a pack, they say no, and she bellows "JUST DO IT, UNLESS YOU WANT TO JOIN HIM IN THE AFTERLIFE!". Having grabbed a pack each, she tells them how to turn it on, they do so, she tells them how to fire, they do so, and while they have him restrained, she's telling them to guide it over the trap, and once it's in position, she slams her hand on the capture trigger, the trap springs back to life, and the ghost is then contained once again. The girl is in stunned amazement that she just did that, her friends are just shocked, but happy at the same time that they managed to get rid of whatever it was that they saw, and Peter, turns to Winston and Ray, saying "I found our replacements guys". That is how I would start a continuation of The Ghostbusters, and from there, it would be a combination of the girls being trained, and the weirdness in the city getting worse, after news has reached the paranormal realm that The Ghostbusters are retiring, and it will be safe to reek havoc once again.

This was actually pretty good and pretty scary. Here are a few requests: What If We Fixed Cars 2? What If We Fixed The Mummy (2017) and/or The Dark Universe? What If Tim Burton Directed Batman & Robin?

I'd go with the urban legends motif but they'd be actual ghosts with a small unique back story to them for the movie: The Phantom Hitchhiker: The ghost of a young man run down by a drunk cab driver in central park in the 1960s (When motor vehicles were still allowed in Central Park) The ghost in the Mirror: Tying in with the opening scene. Is the ghost of a teenage girl named Mary Worth who was murdered in the bathroom by the deranged janitor in 1949 The Hook Handed Killer: The ghost of an ex-sailor from the 1700s who lost his hand to a shark and killed 20 New Yorkers with his hook hand before the local constabulary "took care of him" Stingy Jack: A greedy railroad baron from the late 1800s whose stinginess wound up being his undoing when the train he riding on crashed due to deferred maintenance of the track on his part The Headless Horseman- A violent and cruel man who went after his wife after she fled him in the 1820s, but was decapitated when his scarf caught on the low branch of a tree, yanking his head from his body The Jersey Devil- Same as the original legend but in the case of the movie was actually killed by the New York Guard in 1919, but now returns as a ghost

This...honestly sounds like such a fun Halloween movie. It reminds me of the vibe of the Goosebumps movie or, to a bit of a extreme degree, IT. It’s there to be a fun time.

How to fix Ghostbusters 2016? Me: Forget it and just show the original.

The whole using urban legends as the minions is actually a pretty cool idea

Nice pitch! I appreciated the extra layers of conflict for the characters, and got really excited for the "Night on Bald Mountain" homage!

This rewrite is excellent, genius, and deserving of being made.

Man that treatment actually sounds really radical. If they would have made that movie play out just how you call it would have been pretty damn awesome because Patty was basically that character but they just made her request a black woman from New York rather than a street smart member. Making it a running joke that no one knows how Coldplay joins the group is pretty creative and I think that would be pretty damn funny especially if that was your back story and she was still engineer of the Group. You could probably change up Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig characters not completely like you described but they definitely need to be changed so they fit the Ghostbuster Dynamic way more than whatever crap they have aready portrayed. Man I really wish I had a couple million to throw around so that I could remake the Ghostbusters movie with you I'm not going tèco lie, my favorite part of the movie is them experimenting with more gear and they had a few different pieces of gear to go alongside the usual proton packs and traps. I wish they would have Dove deeper into that.

If I make a new ghost busters movie (and I have to be diverse) I would make the charaters the following: -A paranormal detective who investigates mysteries surrounding ghosts, but he's from south america and claims to have caught a chuppacabra. To only learn his family is from Peru. is in debt and is friends with one of the charaters who gives him gadgets. -A tech-college drop out who was blamed for blacking out a city block, but she blames a ghost did it and was expelled. She goes by as a mechanic and IT support but her true calling is to get revenge on the ghost who ruined her carreer, however she's an immigrant from Japan and doesn't want to return home as she would just be forced into a dumb office job. She also believes in Yokai and western super natural things like Gremlins. -A spirit medium, male, white. Who tries to talk to the dead... He only comes into the play a little later as they need someone who can "speak ghost." He's known to be abit of a grifter, but has a decently nice house he pays for and has high paying clients. This guy is sorta a venkman. But already believes in ghosts and believes they are easy money. -Last but not least is our last member. An african-american girl who's at a college. She studies psychology and has started writing a paper on all these people who see ghosts and who they got to, to hire about this. She's our non believer and tries to logic her way out.. even when confronted with a ghost.. she will just say: "It's probaly some sort of chemical reaction to gas!" Eventually when they catch the ghost she comes around. So all 3 of the cast are kinda "lowest of low" charaters with the 4th one being the person with a future. While the medium clearly tries to scam people...they clearly also have no other way to go, but continune the sham of their lives. Non of them have fufilling lives. Even the student who will just be another indebted person who had a good idea but ghosts threw a wrench into the plans and now they gotta make ghosts seem real to non believers or live as a sham fooling people for an extra buck. So 3 of them (not the medium) go eventually to another ghost sighting area where there are multiplue ones. Here we get to see the "will o' wisps" Here they meet the slimer of the team who's an actual ally. "Jon Gotti" A criminal who passed away long after. They are able to trap him, but they cant see his full form.. just many wisps around his visage. This is the 2nd ghost they will catch, as the 1st ghost actually breaks out the trap, since the trap was INCOMPLETE. The medium is pulled in to talk to Gotti.. and Gotti spills the beans of whats going on. That some guys are trying to do some weird ghost energy stuff and it's messing up his business in the afterlife. The ghostbusters don't have enough fonds but Gotti pulls some strings and sends them to a leader of an organized crime. He then tells the ghost busters where he lead an old stache of his and they tell the "mob boss." He finds it and then he believes them and says he will help them get their business off the ground as well as spread the word. This calls abit of a moral dilema, but with the extra customers and more ways to gather info via the mob boss. They eventually will determine---- Yea thats where I drew my blank XD but thats where I went with my ghost busters story.

I have not actually seen the movie so from now on i will just chose to think of this being the actual story for the movie, way less disappointing that way. Good job Rob

That was brilliant. The 2016 reboot was supposed to be Leslie Jones' breakout role post SNL. If the movie actually went this way that probably would've actually happened.

I love these changes and how it makes a completely different movie!

That opening with the bully getting scared off and the whole marketing scene alone would make for an interesting Ghostbusters spin-off!

Holtzmann just being "there" with no real backstory and just started tinkering around really is a thumbs-up for me, it just works imho.

Is it bad that I knew you were going to the Samhain thing soon as you mentioned Halloween? And secondly he would make for a really good villain because he was one of the tougher villains in the Animated Series also you could have went with the boogeyman that would have made for a good story

I actually think that if they wanted to include one of the female Ghostbusters in the main series, it really should be Jillian Holtzman. Kate McKinnon’s natural comedic timing is infectious and she fit in perfectly with the main Ghostbusters universe. But just to be clear, maybe it’s a different universe version of her character from the 2016 film. Maybe she’s a cousin or niece of Janine Melnitz or maybe her an adopted daughter, but a familial connection should be included.

Sounds spot-on for a Ghostbusters movie, entertaining the prospect of a “franchise”.

I could probably take some of the ideas laid out in this rewrite and include them in the rewrite idea I had before on the previous video. You've actually given me some awesome ideas.

There was an attempt to make us laugh? After watching the director's cut I thought it was only an attempt at flipping off the paying viewer.

Seems like a solid script to me. Yhe one change to your script I would entertain is "single working mom" angle. Does it really help the story? Might be more interesting if she actually had a decent marriage, but maybe I'm wrong?

I was wondering about that too. I think a small tweak would be that the father is a stay at home dad. He's loving, supportive, but maybe believes in the paranormal while his better half hasn't yet because she has to see it to believe it. Then we could have a fight between him and the trick or treaters (I'm thinking comedic action) as he screams at his son to hide. Then we could have that bathroom scene slightly different. Like, suddenly all the trick or treaters leave-two grabbing the candy bowl on their way out, maybe even playfully fighting to see who carries it-the momentarily stunned dad slams the door close and locks it before calling for his son to come out, it's safe. Silence is his only answer. He calls again as he picks up a baseball bat and goes to the bathroom. After forcing the door open, he finds it empty... no son, nothing except a crack that is slowly spreading across the mirror as a shadowy figure begins to form behind him. Fade to black as the viewer only hears the father whisper, "Bring it," seconds before glass breaks. Then after the capture and defeat at the tower have him show up, bloodied but still holding onto his now slightly dented bat as his family hugs him. Idk your comment just inspired that and yeah probably isn't the best, but I think it would be nice to see something like it in Rob's version.

I think it'd be nice but I'm sure she's single so it cuts down on characters, more of a desperate need to be a 'real' writer cuz there's no dual income coming in, technically easier for her to "lose" sight of her kid, if a partner was there he probably wouldn't have been able to sneak out. Higher emotional stakes too. If she looses her son she'll be alone, yeah she has friends but her ONLY child and companion would be gone and that's heartbreaking.

Just spitballing her, but hear me out - what if, instead of her child, the younger character is Erin's younger sibling? Like she has a teenage brother/sister who she's had to be a mother figure for because their parents died and/or is sick of Erin still treating them like a little kid, but when the ectoplasm hits the fan they finally start listening to her?

Directed by Wes Anderson. Starring Owen Wilson/LukeWilson, Vince Vaughn, Will Farrell, Eddie Murphy all as the New Busters and then obviously Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Dan Akroyd as the original Ghost Busters and have much more screen time. Written by Owen Wilson and Wes Anderson.

Awesome rendition, Rob! That version sounds more fun than the 2016 version! I like the idea of making the villains and monsters serious, instead of cartoony, much like the monsters in Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein...

Wow, I´m not really into fan rewrites but this is actually good, this feels like it could have been a great homage to the franchise and make the characters actually likeable.

Every time I see one of these I’m more convinced Hollywood needs to hire you guys

How to fix GB2016 IMO: Make the characters more realistic and likable/relatable with each having a clear personality- the level-headed one, the heart, the brainy weirdo, the grounded cool one. Make Kevin dumb but lovable not annoying/insulting. Balance the loads of assholes they encounter with real people who are sympathetic. Make the girls' relationship with one another more about being personable, dealing with each other on a level that is a step beyond what was in the original GB. Have an actual, good script. As for Rob's treatment, I thought it was really good. Just set up Erin's son early on as a believer in ghosts who is kinda miffed at how his Mom (initially) is trying to debunk them.

This is a fantastic FanScription. If only we could roll back time and use this script instead.

Honestly, a Ghostbusters reboot that I would envision would be more along the lines of a stylized big budget sci-fi action flick, like the last third of the 2016 movie, but all the way through.

Really? Not saying that's a bad idea but I would rather want Ghostbusters reboot or sequel, to be sci-fi horror comedy, with more emphasize on horror. There would be elements of action but leaning more towards action horror. It would have a Resident Evil 7 and P.T. vibe but with Ghostbusters.

As someone who thought the 2016 version actually kind of worked (benefits of having the bar lowered almost to the ground, by all the hate campaigning; no movie ever made is as bad as the internet hate-mobs made Ghostbusters 2016 sound): This is way better.

Larson the phrase "he could sell ice to an Eskimo" is used to mean that someone is such a smooth salesperson that they can convince somebody to buy something they don't actually need to buy. But the reverse doesn't work the same way. If you can't sell ice to somebody literally surrounded by it, that makes sense. An incompetent salesperson wouldn't be able to convince somebody to buy something they desperately needed, like an old boss of mine once said when I was fired from a telemarketing job: "You couldn't sell ice water to people in Hell."

This is so good! The GB we got felt like a bunch of SNL skits taped together; not the old school funny SNL, the new not really that funny much SNL. I wanna watch your movie!!

Dude! Rob! My man! That was epic! As a kid, Sam Hain was my favorite RGB Cartoon villain and I even made a pitiful attempt to write a Ghostbusters 3 with him as the villain. So thank you for writing a great Ghostbusters reboot (compared to the crap we got) with him as a focal point in the climax! You even had some of the same ideas I had as a kid (although given my age not sure if that’s good). Lol Thanks again! Loved it!

That’s a nice reference with Evo Shandor cause he was the cultist villain in the Ghostbusters game.

To be honest this sounds as good as the other guy who try to rewrote GB2016 to be a sequel of Ghost Busters 1 & 2.

i think a really funny homage would be that arin invites the other ghost busters to her house for dinner, using this as a way to get more info. she opens the front door and they all see her kid sitting infront on the tv with static snow and they slowly turn their head to the group and just says "mommy, the cable is out again" and then you hear a proton pack start up as the camera focuses on the group with wide eyes

This is really good, just one little detail: since the actual problem as to WHY nobody wanted to see the movie in the first place was the main cast being nasty on social media, I'd recommend swapping them out for actresses that WOULDN'T behave like petulant children online. Not that they're bad actresses, but they just brought in bad publicity by bashing the original fans of the franchise while using the whole feminism angle as some flimsy shield to protect their bad behavior. I have no problem with an all female main cast, but I do have a problem when said women behave poorly and try to use their gender as an excuse to do as they please.

Definitely would’ve been a badass movie.

I really dig this, need some polishing but this is a much stronger idea. If we are daydreaming, I would end on two kids talking about how weird it was they were posed and bummed they didn't get much candy. A strange light comes from the closet. A close up to the door opening and the Boogyman's hand is in the shot, cuts to black with his laugh. If we are going to pull from the cartoons, scared the hell out of adult me haha.

They fixed it already, it's called Ghostbusters Afterlife.

Awesome retake on the 2016 Ghostbusters! Why they did not have writers like you on that set I do not know. Your version sounds way more exciting. Maybe someday we can have a movie like that.

That was really good. My idea is that this movie should've been set in the same universe as the old ones, but like a different franchise location. The tech one can still design new stuff. And the others can be a mix of new recruits and more seasoned members.

This FanScription is brilliant!! Well done.

My ideas for the ghosts in this version: Mirror ghost(Ghost 1): A science teacher ghost who was electrocuted to death while being doused in chemicals. Her weapon of choice is a ruler that shoots electrified acid. Highway Ghost (2): Think a shabby looking hitch hiker but in his briefcase he carries his real head and on his shoulders is a watermelon with a scarf and sunglasses and a stylish fedora. Winged Drinker (3): A drunk ghost with a hook for a hand who throws turnips. He flies around with bat wings. Candy Kid(4): A massive ball of flesh and taffy with a mask of a candy mascot. All he really does is get in the GB's way while Candor electrocutes himself. Newsie (5 optional): at the news station is the ghost of a weather reporter who summons mini hurricanes by sensationalizing and complimenting them in comedic fashion.

Cillian Murphy as Ivo?..... AWESOME!

I would have moved heaven and earth to have your rendition and rewrite of the movie. It just works so much better than what we got.

Love this idea! I never saw the cartoon here in Ireland, so I’m not sure if Rob’s pronunciation is based off the cartoon, but Samhain is the Irish word for Halloween and is pronounced “Sow-Ann”. 🙂

I like this treatment,gives me a real ghostbusters episode vibe and actually would've been a fun movie to see.

I like this version better already. The commentary about advertising and Sony is especially funny, but they wouldn't have the guts or brains to do it. The best bits were the Urban Legends being real, and the shout-outs to the cartoon and toys, and there were a LOT of those when I was a kid. And Halloween! Perfect timing! I think a good sequel tease would be what happened to the rest of the druidic cult of Samhain after Ivo Shandor died. New Fanscription ideas: What if Edgar Wright finished Ant-Man his way on time for MCU Phase 1, and What of X-Men 3 didn't have the Phoenix storyline in it.

I could see this version of Ghostbusters making a ghost trap that's similar to the ghost trap and have a proton gun from Extreme Ghostbusters. They could make their proton packs carry that version of the ghost traps than having one person carrying one on them like the cartoon did and having the proton gun as a back up if the proton pack overheats, was on the fritz or was flung somewhere that they were unable to reach it.

I thought the reflection would say "Trick or Treat, Motherf*cker!" LOL

One thought came to mind: have the kid fall into a coma after his possession is ended, instead of just being fine. Then the sequel hook is the camera zooming in on the trap, where you hear both Shandor and the kid's voices coming from inside, the idea being that the sequel would have them both escape, the kid as a ghost because the trap ripped him out along with Shandor but didn't kill him, and the Ghostbusters have to help the kid get back to his body while making sure that Shandor is kept away, among other shenanigans such as word getting out and people panicking that the GB's could ghostify anyone they wanted in theory (no nevermind that that replication would be difficult and require possession).

The elevator music should be a muzak version of the Ghostbusters theme
