I always loved horror movies where some of the ghosts and monsters are actually benevolent and help the heroes rather than all of them being evil.

Below (2002) is a good example of a ghost appearing to be bad but actually isn’t and is just trying to find peace after a brutal death!

The poor captain. Even leaving aside the horrible way he died, he's probably been living (figuratively speaking) with the guilt of being responsible due to rescuing the survivor and the gold from the Lorelei, which led to the massacre of all those passengers and innocent crewmembers of his own ship. That good deed led to his own death and that of every innocent person on the Antonia Graza.

@@samanthawright9589 Yes, but it's sadly a natural thing. Look at the Ariana Grande concert bombing in Manchester, for example. She still blames herself for it even though it wasn't her fault, thinking that if she hadn't hosted the concert then those innocent people wouldn't have died.

😢😢😢What’s even more sad about this is the fact that not only that Murphy finds out the truth. But he dies drowns with that truth. Becoming one of the trap souls on board the ship. At least in the end he was freed. It’s just so depressing.😭😭😭 That cruise line captain is one of the innocent souls on board the ship. I’m actually grateful he’s free now.

Jack ferriman who is actually a former human being now punished for a lifetime of sin by collecting souls. marks each person killed if they are sinful enough. The only three ghosts (two that we encounter in the early 2000's time period that are not marked. Are the friendly officer (portrayed by Jamie Giddens) who had his throat cut by a evil crewman of the antonia graza. The antonia graza's captain (portrayed by Robert Ruggiero) anf Katie Harwood portrayed by Emily Browning. These three ghosts are the ones we know for sure that will go to heaven when thr antonia graza was sunk by the explosions planted by epps.

Yeah but in this case, he who was responsible was Ferriman, a former human who had turned into a demon-like being in the service of Hell. He was the one who used his powers to make some people on the ship as evil as they can be. They were other ways they could steal the gold without massacring everybody, including themselves, but that's not what he wanted... He most likely did the same thing on the other ship where they rescued him from.
