This song (i believe correct me if i'm wrong) was written kind of as a parody of "christian"/"worship" music because if you toke out the references to Satan no one would have a problem with it but because it does people are upset, the music video is making fun of those christian TV priests and how over the top they are

Ghost Live is legit af! Saw them in Midland Tx couple years ago. Put on one of the best concerts I’ve seen. Tobias works the crowd and the theatrics were legit.

This was the first song I heard from Ghost and it was posted on a comment thread on Facebook about religion, someone thought it was a worship song 🤣

Thank you for another great Ghost reaction I’ve waited for this one . I really dig this song , Tobias really knows how to put an idea and song together and the guitar arrangements are so good . “Wait is this a love song to the devil “ 😂 you had me in stitches . I wasn’t too fond of this song when I first heard it but now it’s one of my favorites, the chorus and guitars won me over .

Not only the music is a parody of Christian songs, but the video (as you mentioned) has a lot of cult vibes. The main character might be a parody of Tony Alamo: the vintage style, the images of people putting their money on the tray (the Alamos became rich by exploiting their followers), the iconic sunglasses, and the suggestive scenes "baptizing" the young followers (Tony Alamo was convicted for r4ping at least 10 girls in his cult).

Try to pause the video at 3:08 and use the comma and period keys to slowly search back or forward. For a split second they show a photo of Tony Alamo, so yeah it's a direct reference to that scumbag.

I got really strong Jim Jones vibes from his look in this video. He's a cult leader from the 70's that was also known for white and cream colored suits and big aviator sunglasses. I'd not heard of Tony Alamo, but after looking him up it's crazy how much the two shared in style and behavior. It's almost like they've got a playbook at this point.

An underrated Ghost gem is Life Eternal off Prequelle. It is beautiful.

I've read in an music article that Tobias Forge wrote this song, in part, as a tribute to his older brother who died before Ghost became successful. It said he introduced Tobias to a slew of different rock bands like Dio, Genesis, and Uriah Heap as a kid that informed his future musical tastes. "The beast with many names" could also possibly be alluding to the many bands he discovered as a kid. I don't know how accurate this article was, but it isn't interesting take, I thought. Is All the best songs have about a bajillion layers to them.

You're going to like this. If ever there was a"vibey" ghost song this is it. Sweet guitar solo too.

I thought you would have picked up on "The Morning Star" reference as being "Stan". If you've watched Sandman you'd put together the reference to that of Lucifer Morningstar

"Nostro Dis Pater" means "Our bad father" or our "Father of Hell" and “Nostr’ Alma Mater” means "Our nourishing mother". gives you a little more context of the meaning of the lyrics

This clip shows exactly how institutional religions convinces people to do and believe horrible things and give the money that people really need to eat playing sweet songs, wearing white, nice words. Tobias is a genius for that.

It's a satire about Christianity and none of the promises being met even from praying to god. I'm an atheist but if we were to have to pick based on actions, I'm picking Satanism all day everyday. Because just like my Mi'Kmaq people they hold high regard for queer people like myself. Great video and song, one of my favorites.
