Getting Started with René
Фильм және анимация
This video shows how to create and store a two-channel sequence on René. It also briefly demonstrates channel and page navigation, and the basic function of most of the Program Pages. More detail on all these topics will be found in upcoming videos.

This video was incredibly helpful! For the Y channel, I set two different Tempi clocks, each routed to a different button on a 4x Mute. Both of those go out to my 2hp Unity mixer, which is then patch to Rene’s Y clock in. I’m not using Y’s CV or gate out, so it only affects channel C when I mute/unmute the 4x Mute buttons. This allows me to, with good timing, set C to whatever pattern I want by clicking the slower Tempi channel, then let it go nuts on the faster channel. When timed right on the Mute button, my original pattern on the slower tempo can, again, be selected. Just have to pay close attention to which Rene knob is lit. Pretty sure I could accomplish the same with Tempi’s Mod and Prsspnt’s toggle out, but that was an afterthought.
Just bagged a Rene 2 and this got me up and running in no time. Thanks!!!

Happy patching!!
You have done it again! More videos please. I've managed to learn the original Rène now have to learn this one. Can't wait! Thank you.
Thank you for making awesome tutorials and documentation! Really enjoying learning Rene v2 on my new Shared System and very fun sequencer and different than other modular sequencers. I love the playful nature and super easy to mix patterns quickly on the fly for live performance. Other sequencers like Eloquencer and Vector 512 are powerful but I feel like I am programming a computer on those modular sequencers. Rene is like playing an instrument.

Happy patching!
its a superb sequencer. It would have been even better if the pots where 'infinite" and using a circular array of led around the pot to show the current angle for each state/channel :) In any case i love it like it is right now !
Excellent tutorial on Rene! I am looking forward to using it when my Make Noise Shared System arrives soon.
that's beautiful. I'm drooling.
Very smart updates on the behaviour of mk1! Would be great to see what you guys at Make Noise do with a mk1 versus mk2 patch ;-)
Hey my friend! Awesome video! Thanks so much for sharing! Stay Blessed!
What perfect design.
Guys, holy cow. Really smart evolution from René v1. So good!

And octaves?! YESSSS!!
Looks excellent! Is there a way to use it without saving presets - as in whatever I was doing will still be there next time I power on - like a manual/live mode?

Autotross no, you must store if you want the same programming after powering down. In later videos you will see that this is more powerful. It allows for on-the-fly programming of many States that is non-destructive, as you can also instantly Revert to your last set of Stored States.
Alright already! I'll save up for a system Cartesian already!
Can you guys please do a video demonstrationg the select bus with Rene and Tempi?

daniel provder yes, of course we will demonstrate this. Stay tuned!
So in X and Y pages we cannot clock the respective alternate X and Y axis? In C page it is like MKI but in X and Y we cannot specify movement to coordinates on the opposite axis? It just moves with Snake or FRD, PEND, REV?

Degraded Echo yes, the X and Y channels are Snake movement only.

Storing Sequence States: 7:06
so it can run three separate sequences? Have I understood that right? also with storage the old Rene will store 4 patterns for the sequencer, how many sequences can be stored in the new one is it still 4?

Bob Percy 64 States (a State is knob values and program page settings for all three channels)

It is three sequences, but I think C(artesian) is a combination of X and Y and is not as programmable as the other two. I may be incorrect.
I am in the market for a CV/Gate sequencer, so this new option is worth considering. I am sold on another sequencer at the moment though - the Pittsburgh Modular Electronic Sequence Designer 128. It's still unreleased for some reason; but I did read that they're making improvements on it hence the delay... however, I'm not sure if that's true. The delay could be a good thing since it gives me more time to see what the new René can do. ;- )
How would I know where I was if I were colorblind?

The current channel's button will always be lit with the name of the channel.
Nice. Would’ve loved to have seen the entire shared system during the video.
I'm thinking it's time to get a rene!

+sean holt I'll sell you my mk 1, new in box but tested, works fine. $425.00. Thru eBay if you wish (So that will show I'm honest & you'll have buyer protection also)
how to mute steps , make rests ?

Go to Gate page and turn off locations where you do not want a gate. (Assuming the channel's gate output is patched to generate note events for that channel)
How do you mute steps on Rene 2? I can’t seem to figure it out.
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC

If you're using the gate outputs to open your VCA (or fire an envelope that does so), just turn off Gate Access on the location where you want the "mute".
is it possible to edit gate lenght or is it fixed?

Gate outputs follow the width of the gate inputs. Or, using FUN.TRIG, you can set them to always output triggers.

MAKEN0ISE Aha, so its not possible to program patterns with varying gate width on the sequencer itself. I understand now. Thanks for your reply.
Why does it run in the wrong direction? Can't this thing run like a normal sequencer from top to bottom left to right? MPC mode instead of hipster mode.

the signal flow is from bottom to top, and therefore so is the first snake pattern. that said, with the cartesian channel you can set axis direction independently. set Y to move down, X to move right, and clock Y with 1/4 clock division, and you have the sequence you requested. can't speak to MPCs or hipsters. René's not based on existing devices, it's the realization and expansion of a sequencing idea.
Title says Rene, But this is Rene 2
That is pretty goddamn sexy. Ugh, Just when I was gonna get an old one offa Reverb...
Bon, si on voyait où sont branchés les câbles blancs, ça serait bien pour un non anglophone

oui, je vois ce que tu veux dire. j'essaierai d'en être conscient à l'avenir! désolé pour le mauvais français, cela dépend de Google Translate.
That font is a nightmare. I know it looks cool but this has to be one of the most obtuse user interfaces i've ever seen.
