Getting Started with René

Фильм және анимация

This video shows how to create and store a two-channel sequence on René. It also briefly demonstrates channel and page navigation, and the basic function of most of the Program Pages. More detail on all these topics will be found in upcoming videos.

    This video was incredibly helpful! For the Y channel, I set two different Tempi clocks, each routed to a different button on a 4x Mute. Both of those go out to my 2hp Unity mixer, which is then patch to Rene’s Y clock in. I’m not using Y’s CV or gate out, so it only affects channel C when I mute/unmute the 4x Mute buttons. This allows me to, with good timing, set C to whatever pattern I want by clicking the slower Tempi channel, then let it go nuts on the faster channel. When timed right on the Mute button, my original pattern on the slower tempo can, again, be selected. Just have to pay close attention to which Rene knob is lit. Pretty sure I could accomplish the same with Tempi’s Mod and Prsspnt’s toggle out, but that was an afterthought.

    Thank you for making awesome tutorials and documentation! Really enjoying learning Rene v2 on my new Shared System and very fun sequencer and different than other modular sequencers. I love the playful nature and super easy to mix patterns quickly on the fly for live performance. Other sequencers like Eloquencer and Vector 512 are powerful but I feel like I am programming a computer on those modular sequencers. Rene is like playing an instrument.

    its a superb sequencer. It would have been even better if the pots where 'infinite" and using a circular array of led around the pot to show the current angle for each state/channel :) In any case i love it like it is right now !

    Autotross no, you must store if you want the same programming after powering down. In later videos you will see that this is more powerful. It allows for on-the-fly programming of many States that is non-destructive, as you can also instantly Revert to your last set of Stored States.

    So in X and Y pages we cannot clock the respective alternate X and Y axis? In C page it is like MKI but in X and Y we cannot specify movement to coordinates on the opposite axis? It just moves with Snake or FRD, PEND, REV?

    so it can run three separate sequences? Have I understood that right? also with storage the old Rene will store 4 patterns for the sequencer, how many sequences can be stored in the new one is it still 4?

    It is three sequences, but I think C(artesian) is a combination of X and Y and is not as programmable as the other two. I may be incorrect.

    I am in the market for a CV/Gate sequencer, so this new option is worth considering. I am sold on another sequencer at the moment though - the Pittsburgh Modular Electronic Sequence Designer 128. It's still unreleased for some reason; but I did read that they're making improvements on it hence the delay... however, I'm not sure if that's true. The delay could be a good thing since it gives me more time to see what the new René can do. ;- )

    Go to Gate page and turn off locations where you do not want a gate. (Assuming the channel's gate output is patched to generate note events for that channel)

    If you're using the gate outputs to open your VCA (or fire an envelope that does so), just turn off Gate Access on the location where you want the "mute".

    Gate outputs follow the width of the gate inputs. Or, using FUN.TRIG, you can set them to always output triggers.

    MAKEN0ISE Aha, so its not possible to program patterns with varying gate width on the sequencer itself. I understand now. Thanks for your reply.

    Why does it run in the wrong direction? Can't this thing run like a normal sequencer from top to bottom left to right? MPC mode instead of hipster mode.

  • @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC

    @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC

    4 жыл бұрын

    the signal flow is from bottom to top, and therefore so is the first snake pattern. that said, with the cartesian channel you can set axis direction independently. set Y to move down, X to move right, and clock Y with 1/4 clock division, and you have the sequence you requested. can't speak to MPCs or hipsters. René's not based on existing devices, it's the realization and expansion of a sequencing idea.
