Happy patching! I find the S/H is preferable whenever you want changes in time with the main sequence, even if the CV source is already in time with it.

That sync;d ring mod into opto was genius, once again dude man

"Why stop anywhere!" Good advice. Took me a couple of times watching to get it going at home, but this is awesome.

You know, it had never occurred to me to patch my Rene v1 to more than one synth voice. Great idea, though it may not have been your intended take-away from this!

If I wanted to add drums to this patch as it was patched in the video, I'd likely use the Morphagene in some way.

I always sign up for notifications when these come out and then I think “…no, better wait until my working day is done because once I see whatever this is, I’m going to be patching from that time until I collapse into bed way past my bedtime.” I’ve never been wrong yet.

Generally no, the original René is a single channel device and here we're using multiple channels plus function (ADD/S&H) that don't exist on the original. However you could check out the original "René as Non-Linear Quantizer" and "René: Plane of Composition" videos for some ways to influence sequences via CV on the original René.

I wonder if this can be emulated with Metropolix + a S/H generator.

The tough part to emulate would be keeping the added voltages "in scale." Depending on how you achieved it, it might require a dedicated quantizer module at the end of the chain.

Original René does not really have any equivalent to the S/H mode. You would need to sum an external S/H with René's output and then run the result through a quantizer.
