Hi Diane, I almost cried I was so touch by your intro. The words you spoke are so true here in the US too. The younger generation is so oblivious to the world we grew up in and the current world that we now live in. They are destroying everything. Thanks for sharing & much love to you!

I agree and would go so far as to say we in the US are suffering from this illness vastly more than Europe. I see respect and preservation of nature being cultural in most of Europe, but in the US, the drive is development ($$$) at the cost of natural lands. I so envy our European friends who seem to appreciate and respect the sanctity of natural lands. And, Diane, I so envy your home and lands. To me, it looks like heaven.

Oblivious is the right word Debra, and there is something very creepy about watching streams of teenagers walking head down, shoulders hunched, along the pavement looking at their phones…

I’m not sure we can generalise about Europe being more conscious than the US. Although my “little corner of paradise” looks idyllic the local farmers are NOT taking care of the environment, there is thoughtless development EVERYwhere, even in our tiny village, and people are almost invisible as they spend all their time indoors doing goodness knows what online. My heart is breaking for the planet.

I felt so happy after watching this video, really wanting to paint. But then I read your comment and to be honest it really upset me. Please remember that there are people of all ages all around the world and age and generations are not actually very distinct categories. You cannot blame everything on a certain generation. Everything has been a progression of events and changes. While I do agree we should be nicer to the environment, I do not agree that the young people are destroying everything. They're living in the world they were born into which isn't the world you were born into.

Where I live in Tennessee in US we are surrounded by farm fields. We used to have more woods but everything is planted in crops now . I’m sick and sad about how the US is acting with many things and I live here .

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful world with us. It is so relaxing to see all the nature. I live in an apartment building and much of what I see daily is cars and trucks. But there are a few trees and the birds love them. I love waking in the very early morning to listen to them sing, before any of the people are out and about making all the noise. I know that a big part of the reason I don't feel well most of the time is because I don't get out in nature. I have no excuse really other than not feeling well, but I must drum up the energy and force myself to go out, I know I will be much better off for it. Since my circumstances aren't looking to change, I must change my attitude about my circumstances and make the most of every day. Thank you again Diane, always love watching your videos. Blessings always.

It’s very hard to make that effort, I know. There have been times when I’ve lived in places where access to any kind of nature was very difficult. Those were the times when I felt I was going to go mad. Literally. Do you have plants and animals inside your apartment? If I ever have to live full-time in an apartment again (which might happen, and it might be in Cairo) I would create an indoor garden somehow. It’s not always possible with imperfect health to go outside. I do much less now than I used to - I’m prone to allergies and stress disorders so I have to be careful and pace myself. I’m lucky I can see everything through Tamsin’s eyes as well. She is so observant…

Thank you so much for being here. I am pretty much , due to health, house & yard bound……we have been planting flowers that attract bees and I’m happy to say it’s working. That not only helps the environment but also gives me things to paint. Journaling has never been my strong suit but maybe an art journal might be the ticket. We’ll see. Drawing the negative spaces is pretty neat. I have done that.

So lovely to see you Diane in your environment. We had a glorious family holiday at the beginning of the year. We were up in the high country isolated from the nearest town by dreadful roads. We spent lovely silent and sunny days amongst birds, bees, flowers, wallabies and kookaburras calling across the valley. No television or internet connection. We also had torrential rain with fog and mist. We left all the doors open and the children loved being up in the clouds. Thank you for sharing this important message.

I have been noticing plants in a whole new way since I began watercolor painting four months ago. Even riding in the car, I am gazing out the window looking at the shapes of the trees and the colors. Thanks for encouraging us to get out into nature, it really does make a difference. I'm so thankful that my grandchildren have a huge backyard to play in with a view of the river and mountains. I love your new idea of nature journaling- I have 16 journals full already - my greatest treasures. They're so fun because no big deal if not "good" pages. no huge commitment and when you close the door - "cover" no one needs to know. I look at my last one and before and remember every moment- and at 84 a memory jog. I just found a new store close by with same ideas! And I found supplies I don't have! What a joy. I want to become a patreon and will soon but today going to symphony rendition of "Brahams Requiem with 100 singers - my other love. 💕 I live in a forest on the edge of part of ocean so no problem finding subjects.

This is really inspiring! You live in a beautiful area. It’s autumn in the south but since the Cape has a Mediterranean climate, it’s our green season and there are still plenty of flowers. I realised that nature journaling is what I’ve been doing but in a haphazard way. Time to get more organised! I don’t know what God has planned for our world but I’m going to enjoy the beauty He provides until it’s time for me to go!

Hi Deidre, you’re on the same page as me! I’ve been somewhat haphazard about it too. I will probably continue to be haphazard some of the time (my nature!) but I’m going to return to journaling as I used to do with words only for many years, but now plan to do with drawings and paintings as well as the occasional word!

I believe that you are doing what your doing to help others learn to paint and help them in their own ways. Myself, I listen to you for courage not to give up cause I was going to at one point. I’m going on a year now and I can see some progression in my painting. I found out that I’m going blind a little while ago. I’m not happy about it cause I want to paint all the time. I've loved nature journaling for years and taught my children to nature journal and identify plants, birds, trees, and etc. They are all grown adults now, and it's funny because some of their friends think they are so smart when they can rattle off names of flowers and trees and plants without any effort. I appreciate your nature journal and I'm going to get my going now too. Where i live, in the north of the USA, it's still quite cold and things are just waking up. Thank you for sharing with us.

That’s wonderful to hear Jody. I did the same with my kids but it only stuck with Tamsin, my son has gone the way of the iPhone generation - you can’t win ‘em all - Tamsin is so observant and sees things I would never notice and she’s a blessing to have around with her eye for nature (although she doesn’t know many of the names, she recognises beauty!) I’m trying to encourage her painting so she can take over from me twenty years from now when I have to stop (LOL!)

Thanks Susan for your support and thoughts. I’ve lived in places like that too in the past, but do also believe that there is always a way to support nature even if you live in a concrete jungle. I lived in Cairo for a while - doesn’t get more concrete than that - but bird life and plants abound if you look hard enough! Let’s hope people’s eyes are opened a little, and soon!

So glad you are encouraging nature journaling. Such a wonderful way to spend time and you have so much to offer in this realm. So many species on the coast of California were near extinction ,but now are back or making their way back. Pelicans now thrive, whales, peregrine falcons and even bald eagles. Never thought I would see bald eagles on my commute to town, but lo and behold they are here on the central coast of California again. If we try we can make the necessary changes to enhance and revitalize nature , I see proof of this every day. Make good choices, notices , and vote for the future. Our time here is waning so make choices for the next generation and the future of the natural world. Every choice matters. 🦅 Thank you Diane!! I am hopeful and excited for you , your future works and the natural world.

I so enjoyed your intro. I too am inspired by nature and am fortunate enough to live in a place that is alive! Even when I look in the grass there seems to be a city down there full of tiny creatures that scurry about in their busy day. I find bunches of bald eagle feathers and one day had 7 of those amazing birds sitting in a tree outside. They are continuously flying over head. Its too bad if people don't get to see nature. I hope people will go outside and look at what is all around them. God's creation is indeed beautiful! I enjoyed your flower paintings too. And you can't beat the chat! Thanks Diane. You are the best!

Hello Diane thank you so much for your inspiring paintings. So I love art but thought I could not do this as it was something people are gifted with. But there was this desire in me to paint. So at 68 I came across your videos and started painting with you. I love nature as I see Gods beauty in nature and sky. I have done most of your paintings. Mine are not as good as yours but it has brought me so much joy especially the whimsical paintings. It is so peaceful as I sit and just get lost in painting a picture. Thank you for giving your time I throughly enjoyed painting with you.
