You should do road to ssl by proxy. Coach a bronze to silver, then a silver to gold, etc. up to ssl. That would be actually educational, unique, interesting content that isn’t just another ssl smurfing against bronzes like we’ve seen a hundred times

Honestly that would be much better than Virge smurfing trying to adapt his playstyle because no bronze's can't hit powershot, no they can't dribble like you do neither aim long shots, it feels off for low ranks and not accurate tho To have " real " bronze, silvers, golds etc.. play and be coached is more interesting, plus it would feel like we were coached at the same time

I can already tell I’m going to love this series. Awesome video. I’m a gold 2 trying to improve and can’t wait to see more videos.

I’d like to see a lot of this kind of stuff at the high Champ/GC ranks in particular. The more examples of good decisions being made often, the better. At lower ranks, it’s more like what you said in this video, where you wait for the ball to come to you, but as people become more mechanically able, more decision making opportunities are presented.

Your video ideas are so innovative and i love it!

AirChargedRL did a series on this called “No mechanics road to GC” he doesn’t have many subs but he did it in ones so it’s pretty cool

I feel like this was more of a narration of action than an explanation of intention.

@@Virge as a plat, I really think your positioning had intention, with ideas of spacing in a second man context vs last man, and you were positioning based off of where the ball might go, which a bronze wouldn’t think to do. I think you could’ve explained this a bit better. To add more, a bronze might ‘sit back’ by just staying still in their half, or on the goal line, or wait on big boost etc

A friend sent me this video, and this might actually help. I've been stuck in bronze for a while now, trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong that I can't get out, and I may have to try to stay back more, let the ball come to me and (attempt to) score. Interested to see where this series leads!

I doubt this video will help that much, check out one of Virge's other videos. For some reason in this video Virge narrates what he did after if happened, rather than when. Everything he does is still quite high level and would be difficult to replicate without his precision on the stick, his throttle control, reading the ball, and hitting volley's; even though he avoids jumping or using the wall. If you're stuck in Bronze start by looking up a pro's camera/control set up guides, most pro settings are quite similar but I recommend Lethamyr's camera settings and guide. Most players also double bind air-roll/powerslide to L1, and some also bind boost on R1. If you've not done these things already this is a good place to start. It's important that you do not exclusively use car camera, for most things you want to be using ball camera with the exception of dribbling/ball carrying. I'd caution you to not obsess over "rotations" as many RL content creators suggest. It's a mistake lots of low ranked players make that distracts from learning basic mechanics, reading the ball and learning when or not to go for a challenge, which tends to make them more hesitant, overly defensive and passive. Instead I suggest focusing on getting your fundamental game mechanics down and understanding them. Your three major ones are: jumping, boosting and dodging. Practice these and when your ready move on to aerials. In freeplay, try a few practice routines: Perform dodges: _-stationary dodges_ _-moving dodges_ _-forward, backward, sideways, diagonal dodges_ (try not to hit the ground producing sparks) Continuously hold boost: _-drive around_ _-do laps between boost pads_ _-do laps on the wall_ _-hit the ball as often as you can and do not jump_ _-hit the ball into the wall, turn away from it, and then hit it again before it can bounce twice_ (with and without unlimited boost) (throw in some powerslides for good measure) Aerial across the arena: _-goal to goal_ _-wall to wall_ _-in tight circles_ In-game: _-make deliberately wide turns when not challenging_ _-do not sit directly under the ball when it goes in the air, get some distance and observe what happens_ _-make sure you're actually using dodges, boost and jumps_ _-watch what your teammates are doing_ _-follow a teammate but do not get too close_ _-avoid going for the ball when teammates do_ _-when you bump into teammates, turn away and give them more! space_ _-go for the ball when your teammate dodges away or goes for boost_ _-if someone is not challenging the ball, then you should be_ _-if the ball is hit towards your end of the field, go back to net down center field collecting pads and getting ready to defend_ If you do all this and you manage to hit silver, start learning to dribble the ball on top of your car. As you progress further, you'll need to start challenging the ball from practically anywhere on the field; so learn the four domains of RL in order: Floor, Wall, Aerials and Ceiling play.

Virge used more mechanics in this Bronze/Silver video than you can reasonably have on this level. Don't get me wrong, virge has some very good videos on his channel to train yourself with, but this video really is not it. Throughout most of the games he made moves that most Bronze players simply can not copy. Maybe check out some of Virge's other content. There are other Road to SSL series out there who do a better job in the low ranks. The one series with the absolute least amount of Mechanics is by a Pro Players called Flakes who is a Top 10 1vs1 players. His series is about 1vs1 though, but you can probably still learn a bit for 3vs3. He uses less mechanics in high Platinum than Virge used in this one. A small warning though, he is pretty inconsistent with his content, but he is already way beyond your rank so it should not matter that much. Maybe give him a look. Then there is also a former pro player Lethamyr who is a very big youtuber with a Road to SSL series for 2vs2 and 3vs3. At least in low ranks I think that he also did a better job at only using easy mechanics. I am confident though that for higher ranks Virge's series will be very helpful, Virge usually truly makes great teaching content.

I started off rocket league brand new and got to gold 3 with just patience and waiting for free balls..... I’m gold 1 now and you get way less free balls/goals plus my mechanics suck compared to everyone so now I actually try to support a play and I am now the noob which whiffs and gives easy to balls to players like new me :D

Hey, got a question. Do you have any videos on how to get from gold to plat?

My first time playing RL competitive I ended up in Gold 1, I've accumulated about 7 days in game and I'm jumping between Gold and Plat in all competitive modes, I'm somewhat struggling with certain aerial moves as well as defending on the wall, but I'm getting better, just a lot of inconsistencies at the moment.

well the first thing i learned was the half flip which was in low silver and id say im a more game sence based player since im diamond and cant ive never hit anything and i cant even air roll decently

Can confirm that at lower ranks, all you need is sit back and wait. That's how I was even at Gold rank. If you see your teamates like to go for the ball too much, just stay at midfield and worry about keeping the ball the opponent's side

Based on the bronzes I have coached so far, there is no way they understand what you were doing. Powerslides, going backwards, aproaching the ball from a curved path to end up in line with the net. No, this video is - just like in case of Lethamyr, Squishy and Rizzo - missing the important explanations lower level players need. I subscribed to see what will you show for champs, but I think more explanation is needed if your purpose is to make players a better themselves. Rizzo kinda did something when he explained 1-2 situations from a match in freeplay, but even that happened only couple of occasions. The lower level someone is, the more explanation he is going to need.
