This does not 'feel' like self-sabotage, it IS self-sabotage. The right question is, is she one of the best 12 players? At this point, probably not. But you don't make that case by including a 41-year-old Taurasi and a Griner who has played about five minutes all year.

Taurasi is a few tens of a point ahead of caitlin in scoring. But caitlin leads her in assist, rebounds and block shots. Better shooting percentage as well. And taurasi plays on a playoff team not a last place team. Taurasi is not double teamed constantly. So tell me how is taurasi better than caitlin.

You say that her stats are worse than Clark’s but taking a brief look at it, that doesn’t seem to be an accurate assessment. Clark has better assists but her pocket gets picked way more. Their 3point stats are in a similar range but that’s an issue because 3pointers seem to be the most notable thing in Clarks arsenal. A lot of their other stats are comparable. No one gives a damn if she gets another gold medal, she already has 5. In fact she was chosen to he team in 2004, her rookie year. So this is just blatant hypocrisy to suggest that she should not be picked because she is a rookie. As to being picked, again exposing yourself to not actually having watched Clark or you would know that the problem is in no small part her team mates and her coach, the former because the leave her repeatedly stranded in a double not moving towards her for a good pass and are outright not capable of catching passes. The latter because she is not able to adapt the team to incorporate her properly not really having done much to adjust the team. It does not help that it is the worst team in the league by far.

Ever since the league started up and there have been women’s basketball in the Olympics, the number one draft pick and new sensation has been given a spot on the Olympic team. Her numbers are good enough to warrant a spot, even if deference in minutes is given to vets. What is unprecedented is that no one, ever, none of these vets when they were rookies , not even now.. has faced consistent double teaming.. triple teaming … defensive pressure for 90 feet even when they don’t have the ball, non stop hard fouling, physicality when the ball isn’t in play. None of them. And despite the targeting , despite being on a lousy team which has many players who are also resentful and jealous of her, who don’t have her back… she is still putting up better numbers than other vets on the team and better numbers by far than those vets when they were the new hot rookie and being given a spot on the team. It’s blatantly obvious, she has disrupted a dysfunctional system and a dysfunctional league. Not only has she been playing non stop for a full NCAA season, full NCAA post season, most rigorous start in the league with 11 games in 20 days … but she has also been dealing with non stop hate, jealousy, racism and the weight of media attention. For anyone being fair and paying attention to, it’s evident that she has handled it all with grace and composure. The WNBA has complained for 28 years that they don’t get the exposure they deserve. Caitlin Clark in the Olympics would exponentially benefit interest, viewership, and recognition of the other female stars in the league. Taurasi has been to 6 Olympics , she’s 41, played in like 144 Olympic games. How many of her Olympic games did any of you watch? When she and all those other ladies were rookies and the fresh face of the league , they were given a spot on the team! The only reason she is not on the team is because the salvation of the WNBA popularity has finally arrived for the public but the players, the coaches, the owners don’t like her. They don’t want her to be the face of the league. They are blocking her, not lifting her up. When Ju Ju comes into the league , they will make a spot for her in the Olympics. Caitlin Clark is the most popular athlete on the planet at this moment and all those other players and coaches DON’T WANT HER THERE TAKING UP THE LIMELIGHT AND EVERYONE ELSE’S CHANCES AT MEDIA ATTENTION AND ENDORSEMENT MONEY! It’s full on jealousy.

Imagine Caitlin Clark playing with Aja Wilson and Breanna Stewart. She wouldn’t have one bit of a problem or struggle and would be open more playing with players of that caliber. To think she is not ready is absurd. As for credentials?😂 really?😂 Caitlin may be the single most impactful collegiate athlete man or woman ever. In any sport. Rookies have been playing for the Olympics for years and some are not even that good. I remember the original NBA 1992 Dream Team included Christian Laettner, who represented the NCAA, he was definitely a rookie and had no contributing factor to the team. Caitlyn however is a pure shooter and will definitely contribute and not including her does not make any sense. This was also a missed opportunity for other players in the league to bond and get to know Caitlyn even more.

The WNBA and USA basketball are frittering away the Caitlin Clark phenomenon, the most valuable opportunity for growing the game that has ever come their way. I think that one has to go back to football’s Red Grange to find any single player with the potential to impact a sport as much Clark. The NFL was founded in 1920 and struggled for the first five seasons with attendance of only a few thousand per game. The college game was king, filling 50-100 thousand seat stadiums every Saturday. Enter Harold ‘Red’ Grange from the University of Illinois, football’s first superstar. He filled stadiums wherever he played, from coast to coast. Upon graduation, George Halas of the Chicago Bears signed Grange to the most lucrative contract in sports history. He then proceeded to take Grange and the Bears on a nationwide barnstorming tour which packed stadiums wherever he played. NFL attendance tripled the next season and within a decade had increased tenfold. Pre Grange crowds of 3-5 thousand morphed into crowds of 30-50 thousand. The WNBA and USA basketball should be treating Clark like a once in a lifetime opportunity. Instead, they are pretending that she is just another rookie player to be harassed by jealous veteran players and ignored by referees, effectively trying to to kill their golden goose.

Also Gray hasn't played a game all season, Grinder one game all season, and CC's stat line eclipses Taurasi's. Plus Grinder hates America and kneels at the National Anthem. Huh?! As to Reeves comment saying she hasn't seen fire; absolutely ludicrous; Four years at Iowa coaches designed defenses in attempts to shut her down; largely ineffectually, and during the W season they've tried but same result. Handle the physicality is pure malarkey, CC has proven time and time again she can handle it and dish it out. We all know why she was excluded, for it's the elephant in the room. The 12 or 15 best players currently aren’t on the squad Canty. Constructing a team unlike an individual Olympic sport is not necessarily 100 percent merit. 1992 Dream Team for example, Shaq was better than Laetner and Isiah Thomas was one of the ten best players in the world. Other reasons I’ve heard for the logic around this team are chemistry, camaraderie. Those are subjective. Caitlin Clark should subjectively belong on this team because she will increase awareness of women’s basketball and elevate everyone on that team in terms of views. Objectively she’s a top 4 passer, top 3 point shooter and is way above average in steals, rebounds and blocks for her position.
