Thanks for the comment The only critical dimension is the diameter of the register A plug guage was made for this using a micrometer

Loved the intro. Take care of your tools and they will take care of you. I like your way of thinking, I have the tools, if I don't have what I need, I'll make it. - That sounds a lot like an Atlas lathe when you have the gears uncovered. LOL -

I like the lever action lock nut on the quick change tool post. Did you make it from a set of plans? If you did would you be willing to share them?

Experienced, er yes. Machinist, I suppose so. Myford owner, well amongst others but prefer my Colchester. I really must get a video camera, so that I can join you lot in Youtubia and show how to do things properly (only kidding) :>)

I can understand using calipers for a quick reference but they are at best "guestimators"? Internal and external mics should be used for precision work as in this application IMHO

Forgive me saying this but it looks like you have your top slide set to nearer 60 odd degrees rather than 29 1/2, Remember it is half thread angle relative to the cross slide not lathe axis! If it is just the camera angle, please ignore the above.

Hi John - Really enjoy your video's. Had a Boxford lathe here in British Columbia Canada sold it 8 months ago. 2 questions: 1) Would you be willing to make a set of basic drawings for the collet chuck for a fee? 2) From the mine video I got the feeling you might live close to New Castle or Newbiggin? My Dad was born there.

Hi John, I have the same style tool post on a 1945 Southbend lathe. I was actually asking about the brass/bronze lock nut at the top of the tool post. I notice in some of your earlier videos that it is the original steel hex nut. At some point you changed it to the current lever action nut. It is a beautiful looking thing, along with the custom knobs at the ends of the shafts.
