Gernge Quick Tips - Creating TV Screen Materials | Cinema 4D Redshift

Фильм және анимация

This quick tip goes over a simple method for creating materials for screens like TVs or Computer Monitors in Redshift. Since this can be done as either an emissive material or as an Area Light & material, there are some slight differences worth pointing out. Additionally how to setup the geometry for each of these different options depending on the material.
Additionally, layering in an image texture of a sub-pixel map really finishes off the look, which is included at the end of the tip.
This information should apply to Redshift in other DCCs, as well as other render engines that have similar ways to layer image textures.

Wow nice one, the area ligtht method I had no idea about, Im trying to build a projector with volumetric. Currently Im doing the spotlight projection that works well but unfortunatley it makes the projected video image into a circular design, I was goingt to create an alpha in the video to square it out but maybe ill experiment with area ligths first. Love your videos btw.

Loving these, Billy. Pace and duration is on point for my taste. Was just about to ask how you did the crack on the CRT monitor, when the answer came, haha. Thanks again!

thank you! and for the crack, i might have forgot to mention in the video but you can experiment with the UV's on your glass screen, to lay them out/position the bump map so that the crack only appears on the 'outside' side of the glass. it might produce a different result having the crack appearing on both sides of the glass

Speaking of how deep one wants to go, I've split the channels out of both my screen content and sub-pixel mask, multiplied them together, then added all the results to get the "pixels" to be lit with proper intensity. Is it overkill vs. using overlay? probably, but does it look good? yes.

i've not tried that! but will definitely the next time i setup a close-up for a screen. thanks for the idea!!

Hi thanks for sharing this, I'm having a simple issue is that when I use the standard material technique but when I changed the emission of the shader node. the PNG layer doesn't emit but the white color layer instead. How could I make my PNG texture emit but not the white color? Thanks in advance.

Love your tutorials and work! Digging the calm tone and to the point tips. Any chance of a full Redshift course in the future?

i really appreciate that! an entire course is definitely a lot to take on, and i'm not sure how i could do it differently than some of the other great courses. something to consider though

@@gernge School of Motion doesn't have a Redshift course yet, so perhaps they could offer you to do one 🙏 Anyway, thanks for sharing your knowledge for free on KZread, it's very much appreciated!

Hey, the texture in the Area Light is not quite working for me, it is just blank when I plug it in. Maybe I do it wrong? I placed the light a bit behind the glass but then the texture is only visible on the edges of the glass. Thanks for your help!

there is a checkbox to make lights visible, on the settings for the light. maybe you need to turn that on?
