It is not reasonable to judge people who didn't know who they were voting for. The people who stuck by him after his lies were publicly known - well, that's a different matter. The question is why. Opportunistic people aren't typically crazy. They may lack a conscience, though, as part of an antisocial personality disorder. But that isn't 'crazy'. They know what they are doing.

I mean once someone deliberately lies to you multiple times..that's the ending for me no matter who it is. It doesn't matter if it's a friend, family or coworker. You can't believe anything they say thereafter..

I was married to a pathological liar and I found that he lied even when the truth would do because of the thrill of getting away w something… it made him feel smarter than me and others who believed his lies. My thoughts and prayers to anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation… it’s truly a nightmare.

He's well aware of the legal consequences of him stating in an interview why he lied. His lawyers have coached him wisely.

He's so narcissistic. 😂 What he could've said to save face was to say "I experienced a lot of trauma in my childhood and to escape from the psychological pain I created a kind of fantasy land in my mind, so lying was a coping strategy to get through life" or something. But egotistical narcissists could never admit to any kind of weakness, it's one of the huge blind spots they have. I love it.

I saw nothing resembling tears or even close to it. All I saw are more lies and the same annoying smirk. He only showed up for this to keep himself in the spotlight, to feed the narcissistic monster inside.

My father was a habitual liar, he lied about and embellished everything, even what most people would consider the most insignificant things. I think some people's brains are just wired that way, and like Santos and D.T., my father just could not help himself. I want to be clear, we should not give pathological liars a pass, they're dangerous and need to be psychologically evaluated and helped if at all possible.

I've actually known several pathological liars in my life, and my impression (at least in their specific cases) was that they lied because their self-esteem was so low that they thought people would like them more if they embellished everything about their lives. I don't know Santos, of course, but the little I have seen of him I would not be at all surprised to find out that was at least part of his issues.

Have a little sister like that. The turmoil she's caused me from not being able to be around her has been an immense source of discomfort and uneasiness over the years. Very calculating, very easy to flip a switch from laughing to coercive, and will work behind your back to undermine you and you'll never know where it came from. Finally decided to just stay back at as far a distance as I can without being too overtly rude.

He has an anti-social personality trait. I worked with a man in his 20s who was a lowly clerk. However, everything he said that was not work related was a pointless lie. He invented an amazing past history, claiming to have the qualifications and work experience of all the top people he had ever worked under. Another example was my stepfather, who never had a conversation without trying to con somebody out of money, or just plain mocking them. If anybody in the family did anything well, or had something good he would get extremely jealous. He always had to beat everybody at everything. Even if he cheated. These people's brains are just wired differently. They are constantly doing things that give them an instant mental buzz every time.

People lie for many different reasons. Not all people have good insight. Some may have insight and choose not to share. Santos is about to be held to account in a big way for his lies and fraud and may be in a bit of shock, but will have time to reflect and hopefully get some mental health help while serving his sentence. Santos not only lied for political gain, he defrauded people of money and his lies hurt others. He has has not expressed remorse which is quite disturbing.

It's interesting to me that David, Piers and George all left out the reason that I think is the real one: George adores the sound of his own voice, to him, he's the most interesting person in the room, and the more interesting he can make himself sound, the more thrilled and entertained he is.

And exactly how long did it take for the MAGA REPUBLIKKKANS TO DENOUNCE SANTOS.? Only when the public pressure was FINALLY too great!! The republikkkans only kept him around for his VOTE,!! Interesting that SANTOS STILL SUPPORTS TWICE IMPEACHED INSURRECTIONIST LYING DONALD J. TRUMP!!! That should tell you all you need to know about SANTOS!!!

His treatment is jail time.

He has the emotional intelligence of a five year old.

From such arrogance he displayed during initial accusations, then during the investigations, then during his ouster from office, to "oh, poor me, I've had a rough life so that's why I lied". And no, he wasn't a powerhouse. Just. Go. Away.

He lied in this interview. We can see why he lies. He is very convincing even when we know he is lying. He is expecting us to say “all is forgiven! C’mon back!” We want to believe people, but enough is enough!

My ex was the same way. Lied about everything. Great big important things. Stupid little meaningless things. And he was terrible at lying. His lies were clumsy, not thought out and easy to prove to be lies. But he would look you straight in the eyes and lie even when he knew that you knew he was lying. Not surprisingly he had no friends and a long list of ex's.
