I have cried many times

I weep every time i listen to this song. The sense of loss is so palpable and profound. All these years later, i sit here and listen to this song with fresh tears coming from my eyes. George Michael had a voice that just gets right into your soul and evokes so much emotion. He's greatly missed.

Yes, his live performerances matched his recordings and if anything were better because of his visible physical emotions. He had also been loved. Very few singers can match live performances with electronically improved and adjusted recordings. He was simply wonderful. I wished I'd seen one of live performances. Sorely missed. 💔

7 years today. He sure was loved. He sure is missed.

For fuck sake, this is perfection. I think there will never be a male singer who's cool and that soft at the same time with a voice that melts you.

He was better live than he was on recordings. He took live performances to a new level.

Not just a great singer but a kind loving gentleman, sweet sleep.

Frank Sinatra said that George had one of the greatest voices of the 20th century. I agree. George was truly a Sublime musical talent.

I lost my 15-year old sister 3 months ago. This song, which has been a favourite of mine for a long time, has now transformed into something else. A safe place to weep, a mirror that reflects everything happening in my life and in my heart. George is and will forever be the best songwriter there has ever been. Who else could write something so profoundly longing, sorrowful and, to everyone with an aching soul, comforting. I miss you, my little precious angel. Life is tough without you and I can do nothing except learn to live with this pain. But as George sang - what we have to learn we rarely choose.

what an exceptional performance of one of the most moving, heartfelt songs I've ever heard. 😢❤

George is my all time favorite singer, my brother died at the age of 11 months and it turned my mother crazy for years and she never recovered from it, she later contracted Aids and was dieing and on her death bed I shared this with her that I always invisioned this song was about her when my brother passed and she cried and I cried and being able to share it with her instead of just keeping it to myself was such a emotional experience for me. There's lines in this song now I feel where directly written for me, her and my brother. No song will ever mean more or be more special to me.

still sends shivers down my spine listening to this. perhaps one of the most beautiful and poignant love songs ever written, particularly when one understands the background to the lyrics. in case those that listen are unfamiliar, the song is dedicated to George's first love Anselmo, who passed away 6 months into their relationship. section 1 of the song described the love anselmo's mother had for him as a child and the pain of losing him. George and anselmo's mother meeting to visit at the grave and take him flowers, with George singing about losing faith. As she leaves the graveyard she tells him don't think that God is dead. part 2 is George speaking to Anselmo at his grave after his mother has left, and part 3 is George addressing God directly about how cruel life is and that he doesn't keep such love from harm. finally, part 4 is anselmo speaking to George either from the grave or just before he passed. powerful powerful stuff. RIP maestro x

There's also a lot of symbolism in the song. BTW, Anselmo was diagnosed with AIDS 6 months into their relationship, and died from an aneurism in the brain while getting treated with a blood transfusion about 2 years after diagnoses. George helped care for him during the short time they had. This happened not long before they started to have the "cocktail" of drugs for treatment of AIDS.

This is pure poetry and it tells of George’s first love Anselmo who died six months into the relationship. George meets with Anselmo’s mother at the graveside. So sad for the both. George does not ha God to turn to but he has been loved.

George Michael was fucking amazing one of the best singers ever. Sad he’s gone.

I can't hardly get through this song without crying like a baby. It reminds me of the loss of my son at 36 years old, killed by a drunk driver. The extreme grief when you lose someone you loved so much by a sudden tragedy. A mother's heart broken, his love's heart crushed and life forever changed. I had a lifetime of memories, she only had a few beautiful months. The same God that took him is the same one I pray to for strength and comfort, that seldom comes. The cruel irony of those lyrics in the song get to me. He was loved and I know without a shadow of a doubt that he loved me too.

It's been a while since I watched this performance but just had to see it again after recently watched his documentary Freedom! '90. I also started listening to some of George's other material that I hadn't heard as I got older. Wow!! I am left breathless and speechless! I loved him as part of Wham! and when he went solo, I played many of his songs nonstop but they were more of the pop songs. Listening to songs like this is like discovering him and his music all over again and what a privilege that is!! His voice is like silk and the range of emotions, particularly for this song, are phenomenal! Sultry and smooth, like honey. 🍯 There's no other artist like him and I doubt there ever will be again. He is truly and deeply missed, not just for his music but also for the amazing, beautiful, loving, kind man that he was!! ❤

Heartbroken. You have been the soundtrack of my life. Rest in Peace George.

I am so blessed to have been born and lived at a time that included this incredible master song writer and singer. There is something so sad and painful about this song that it is difficult to listen but there is really no choice, is there? The ending lyrics are so redemptive that it makes all of our suffering seem worthwhile.

Georgie boy , you were a great composer and lyricist... sublime . You really had it all , didn't you ..? The whole package . Sleep well , old friend , you have been loved .:-)

I would likely not have survived this night without the voice of George Michael. This year 2020, has been a very heavy lift. He saved my life tonight, all the way from the grave. Wish he’d known that.🙏

I can’t believe anyone would turn their thumps down at this masterpiece. This unplugged was a genius performance and nailed his work. This guy was a multi performer, an angel at songwriting and one of the most amazing tenor voices of our time. I am lucky to have been in his presence a time or two while he walked this planet. I saw George in concert in Birmingham UK on his last concert tour before he passed away. He looked so healthy and full of life and was brimming with humour, his voice was magnificent. I had tears streaming down my face when he sang this, such a beautiful song. Such a great loss. x

I remember watching some of his live clips on KZread and thinking, if he's going on another tour, I would pay whatever he wanted for a ticket. Not long after that he passed away. I was so sad and very mad at myself for not gong to any of his earlier shows. His voice is just one in a million

The most UNDER-RATED great singer/songwriter. I can't help but think a great deal of that was because he was gay during the era when it was simply not acceptable to so many people. He's voice was HEAVEN and he was so very handsome .......I was devastated when he died. It's still hard to accept. I think his legacy will grow over the coming years.

George passed away on my baby's first Christmas. Its now approaching the 4th anniversary of his passing and my child now loves listening to George's music and actively requests his songs be put on. George will live on in the next generation, keep spreading the love. Rip George, you have been loved and continue to be loved. Thank you for sharing your beautiful gift with us x

That happens a lot when you have lost a child. Trust me. Over a year before GM died my son died and I couldn't listen to this. I started again then George dies. No truer words, "what we need to learn is not what we plan"... something like that. Life sure throws some curveballs at us.
