Lyrics
Take my life
Time has been twisting the knife
I don't recognise
People I care for
Take my dreams
Childish and weak at the seams
Please don't analyse
Please just be there for me
The things that I know
Nobody told me
The seeds that are sown
They still control me
There's a liar in my head
There's a thief upon my bed
And the strangest thing
Is I cannot seem to get my eyes open
Take my hand
Lead me to some peaceful land
That I cannot find
Inside my head
Wake me with love
It's all I need
But in all this time
Still no one said...
If I had not asked
Would you have told me
If you call this love
Why don't you hold me
There's a liar in my head
There's a thief upon my bed
And the strangest thing
Is I cannot seem to get my eyes open
Give me something I can hold
Give me something to believe in
I am frightened for my soul, please, please
Make love to me, send love through me
Heal me with your crime
The only one who ever knew me,
We've wasted so much time
So much time

This is one of George's greatest non-single album tracks ever. Scratch that, this is one of the best songs of all time. An underrated gem that not many people know about. 💖

I’ve been a George fan for years after I borrowed an album from a 9 yr old. Ha ha.. What an amazing voice and I was blessed to see him in Toronto in 2008. So many great songs, the strangest thing being one of many. But I always seem to refer to kissing a fool when I’m trying to turn someone on to his music. I miss him terribly.

Lots of people dont know that George played most instruments in his songs, ( mainly keyboards/synths). Last Christmas he played ALL the instruments, most of it was performed on a Roland Juno 60. He was a very talented musicain as well as having one of the best male voices on planet earth.

I can name one, Remy Shand, sadly he only released one full EP. And honestly, who else has/had a voice like George's? Even live the man never missed a beat, never missed and note and never sang off key. I'm 34, female and I guess I was the only George Michael fan in my class (a German college). I doubt that the others even knew about him. I once dedicated an art project to him at school depicting his face in the shadows like on one of his album covers. I guess my young grandma influenced me on listening to George. What a sensual voice george Michael on beautiful music
The master of elegance
I just read, that the album Older didnt generate such an excitement in the US, like it did in UK (and Europe I d say).. No wonder, in the US quality music was never massively appreciated, they love Big Hits and Big Shows... George was an artist for fine ears... The Voice rest in peace ❤️
@RocStarr913
10 ай бұрын
The problem was that the American pop music scene changed so much and he hadn’t released any new music in four years, which is a long time in American music. The music on the Older was considered more slight and less catchy than what Americans had long known him for. I also think people were also put off by his caesar haircut and goatee, that they likely found it too much of a gay stereotype. What helped the Older album do better in the UK and Europe, which had a different record label, were the remixes and B-sides on the singles and the fact that so many singles had been released. The promotion in Europe helped the album.

It's one of those rare albums where an artist bares their soul. Completely shows you their inner self with musical genius. I look at this as his coming out album. I didn't like it at first when released. I bought Jesus to a Child single. Couldn't get into the album.. it was a cassette tape. Aoni listened to it over and over until I got it... It took 3 or 4 listens. The best music is usually the stuff that doesn't immediately grab you. This album has followed me throughout my life. It is deeply deeply melancholy which can be a tad dangerous for me. I had some beautiful times listening to this with my first true love in bed. But this was George's breakthrough. Doing what Sony would not allow musically. He truly was free. He questioned his freedom many times. But this album was his release. I don't really buy gay literature or magazines but I recall Gay Times doing a survey on gay male favourite albums. This was voted as no 1. I am unsure if you need to be a gay male to get the deepness and relate to certain lyrics. I just know I can relate. Peace G M. x

Such a damned loss. stunningly beautiful and with incredible vision and insight of the human emotion and the never ending meandering of. Scenarios that love can bring, the pain and the joy. GM understood the true reality of life on earth and the never ending trials and tribulations. An angel on this Earth and we got to know him so well through his very personal lyrics and complete honesty. Yet, the media insisted on vilifying him because he remained true to himself.
